I Had a good drive at the northern loop of LRR today :D thought of getting some latest pictures & completed my task successfuly :banana: so I will be posting the pictures of various packages one by one! and let me start with Package 1, Niazi Interchange. It looks now much better since new sign boards replaced the old ones & re-marking of lanes & installation of new reflectors!

Sorry my mistake! Northern loop's estimated completion date is 31st Dec, after completion of p12 only the route starting from Gulshan-e-Ravi upto Airport will be complete!

it takes you around 6 minutes from harbanspura to airport on the ring road..!! this is amazing as i have touched a speed of 170km on this road...!! NICEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

dude its not like they were violating the rules, even I was going the wrong way u must have noticed in some pics that i posted, it was due to the fact that other side was closed due to some maintenance purpose!

very nice video. I am very concernd for a lot of traffic operating on wrong side of the carriageway. Why the hell is this happening?? Why is this being allowed?? I sometimes think that we pakistanis are arogant and that these modren Roads should not be provided to us cos we just are not ready for them. We just love to go against the rules n regulations. I am sorry if I have been harsh.

very nice video. I am very concernd for a lot of traffic operating on wrong side of the carriageway. Why the hell is this happening?? Why is this being allowed?? I sometimes think that we pakistanis are arogant and that these modren Roads should not be provided to us cos we just are not ready for them. We just love to go against the rules n regulations. I am sorry if I have been harsh.

Note the road cleaning already going on a tell tail sign of future plans for R.R. This is sign of future maintenance since after all this would be an icon of Lahore after landing at I.Iqbal International. Cant wait it to be completed all the way around Lahore.

Indeed I am optimistic about this project....it should turn in to M.Way around Lahore with exception around Bund Road area where people hop on the road from all ends. In the end a worthy project for Lahore.

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has denied making any comment on the issue of Secretary Prosecution Rana Maqbool, terming it a subjudice matter and sought justification for persons sitting in the federal government who were wanted by the courts.

He was responding to the queries of the media while inaugurating the package 10 (GT Road Interchange/Quaid-e-Azam Interchange) of Lahore Ring Road here on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said the Lahore Ring Road will serve as a gateway for Lahore and will be of great significance for tourists visiting Pakistan in general and Lahore in particular.

He said this interchange had been completed in a record period of one year and till August 14, 2010, all the interchanges would be completed. The Punjab chief minister said that the ring road would be managed exactly like the motorway and the people were requested to follow the traffic rules as they did on the motorway.
He said the Ring Road would be connecting the motorway and the GT Road to Peshawar, thus providing great facilities to traders travelling on this route. The Punjab chief minister said the past corruption in construction of the Ring Road, would be properly and thoroughly investigated.

He said he was planning to build a sports complex near Harbanspura for general public. He said he had laid the foundation stone of a 400 bed hospital at a total cost of Rs 1.75 billion in Sargodha on Wednesday. and the hospital would be completed almost in one year.

However, when he was asked bout the custody of Rana Maqbool, he in reply questioned the justification of some wanted persons sitting at the Centre. The CM was talking to reporters after inaugurating Lahore Ring Road ‘Package 10’ on Wednesday.
The CM said Ring Road would prove a ‘Gateway’ to Lahore. He termed Ring Road a ‘Gift’ of PML-N for the Lahorites, it would save time and ‘time is money’. He also announced construction of a sports complex at Harbanspura on this occasion.
Replying to a query, Shahbaz said investigation was underway against the persons accused of corruption in development projects including Ring Road during the previous regime and all those found involved would be brought to book.
He said that all packages of northern portion of Lahore Ring Road would be completed by August 14.
Chief Minister said that in the period of previous provincial government, the work on only one part of Ring Road (Niazi Interchange) was completed, which was very substandard and “we have got it improved again at the expenses of contractor”.
He said that the system of traffic management on Ring Road would be adopted on the pattern of motorway so that people might not face any inconvenience.
Shahbaz said there were torrential rains but despite this, best drainage arrangements have been made and WASA, Solid Waste Management and Administration have displayed best performance in this regard and Lahorites were witness to this fact.
He lauded the performance of Sector Incharge NLC Brig Shahid Majeed and his entire team, Project Director Commissioner Lahore Khusru Pervaiz Khan, MPs and concerned departments for completing Ring Road Package 10.
It may be mentioned here that the project of Lahore Ring Road Package 10 has been completed at a cost of Rs2264.50 million in a record period of one year. People of Northern Lahore and its surrounding localities will have easy access to Allama Iqbal International Airport, Cantonment areas and Walled City and direct link will be available up to Wagha border, which will result in promotion of trade activities.

I only know about package 11. According to HCS website, the status of completed work uptil 31st July is 37%, and I was at the site 3 days back & the pace of work was really slow!

Trust me, from last 3/4 years .. they don't do so ... canal water is quite clean than in past. In winter you can find it greenish as well.

the lahore canal is the beauty of lahore. people of lahore likes to go there on long drive through canal road. its full of green belts & trees. we enjoyed canal mela & having fun there. but its very sad sometimes i saw bad things happened in the canal. people believes that these from the gangs or gujars of harbanspura.

The completion date is 31st dec 2010! and with the current status of work completed & the pace of the work, they should complete it by that time!

No that is P-14 that you are talking about, this is package 16, this connects DHA phase V/VI interchange with the interchange that is being constructed near sui gas society (p17)..here you can have a better idea from this map:

thanks SH, the RR looking so nice after landscaping and day by day its near to completion stage,u doing great job.the punjab govt allocate a heavy amount for fencing of Lahore ring road in current budget,if its spend full of it its will a four star on that project,but due to flood problem in punjab may be its will not utilization of it and funds allocated for flood recoveration

P.S: I landed back in city couple of days ago .. I took a shot from airport and took exit on Canal rd. interchange to go straight towards my home about 30 km away (till Thokkar Nayaz beg) signal free from one end of Lahore to the other (thought my mom was in favor of Mall Rd. exit on LRR , then take Amjad Chaudhry Rd and Aziz Bhati Rd to Mall Rd Under pass )... it works pretty well except that the portion from Ring Road to Mall Road Underpass have a very bad traffic .. rickshaws, walking people etc... if this can be managed somehow .. it would be an awesome track ...

Dude its neither a farm nor a greenbelt, these are green fields and there are few villages(1 or 2) in this area and the ppl of these villages let their animals to cheer around :D

Yeah I realize later :) but I had to give it a try .. since there's an army check post when you take Mall exit and if there are multiple flights .. traffic is stuck for hours on that picket ... not long ago , I flew from Karachi in 1.45 hrs but it took me 2 hours to get from airport to home.

CM for system to prevent accidents on Ring Road

PUNJAB Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that an effective system should be evolved to prevent accidents and ensure smooth flow of traffic on the Lahore Ring Road, following the model of Motorway Police.

Presiding over a meeting regarding the Ring Road here Wednesday, the chief minister directed the authorities concerned to build maximum pedestrians bridges on the road to facilitate people and complete work by October 15.
Addressing the meeting, the CM said that the Ring Road project had not only provided better communication facilities to the people but it would also have far-reaching effects on the economy of the province. He said that civil works on different packages of the road should be completed by mid October.

He said that the traffic system for the road should be corruption-free and better performance of staff needs to be ensured. He said that steps should also be taken to install cameras as well as an ambulance service to deal with any emergency. He added that new vacancies could not be created and new vehicles purchased for the Ring Road traffic system in the current financial conditions, urging the police department to utilize the available resources.
He praised the proposals of Chief Traffic Officer Capt (r) Syed Ahmad Mubin regarding the proposed traffic system for the road, saying that a comprehensive plan should be prepared in the light of the proposals.

The chief minister appreciated horticulture work on the road and said that the PHA DG had played an important role in the beautification of the road which had not only enhanced the glory of the city but also provided better environment to the people. He sought proposals regarding setting up of a parking area at a suitable place, coffee shops and cold drink corners at the Road package near airport. He said that steps should also be taken to set up greenbelts in other areas of the city. Earlier, Project Director Khusro Pervaiz gave a detailed briefing on civil works on different packages of the Ring Road. He said that survey had been completed for expansion of Bhatta Chowk while two pedestrians bridges were under construction on Ferozpur Road

Half of the ring will be complete by the end of this year (Northern loop-40 KM) , the construction of other half (Southern Loop-45 KM) will start in next fiscal year!

Lahore Ring Road divided into three sectors - City Traffic police

CHIEF Traffic Officer Lahore Syed Ahmad Mobeen has said the completed part of the Lahore Ring Road has been divided into three traffic sectors to maintain the flow of traffic and reduce accidents.
On three sectors of the Ring Road, six inspectors, 180 traffic wardens, five vehicles, 22 heavy bikes for patrolling, 44 (125-CC) motorcycles with 66 wardens have been deputed to manage the traffic in the morning and evening. The first traffic sector will have its limits from Babu Sabu Interchange to Mian Munshi Hospital, second from Mian Munshi Hospital to Hurbanspura/Canal bank road Interchange and third from Hurbanspura/Canal bank road Interchange to Airport Interchange . The deputed force of traffic wardens will perform duty in three shifts round the clock.
The City Traffic Police have also installed two speed guns at Ring Road to control road traffic accidents.
The CTO said action would be taken against the speeding vehicles. Captain (r) Mobeen said that following the directions of CM, traffic would be managed at Ring Road like Motorway.
He further said plying of bicycles, rickshaws, donkey-carts and slow-moving vehicles were banned.
However, such traffic will be allowed to move on Service Lane. The CTO has appealed to the road users that if they have any complaint about traffic wardens, they can inform at Traffic Help Line 042-1915 and 042-99213183.

One major flaw in the design of LRR (specially phases 6, 7 and 8) is non provision of railway extention The railway line going to jallo and wahga passes under the phase 8 near canal interchange and there is a curvilinear turn towards south. This curve if extended further could connect Allama Iqbal Airport with the Rail network of the country. At least a city train connecting Lahore Railway Station and Airport could be started for fast and easy transportation service. Almost all the large cities of the world have rail or light-rail system extended to the airports. Given the current LRR plan, unfortunately, there seems to be little space for such a future project now.

I fully agree with Ravian94 on the issue of non provision of Rail Links. Although it is far too late now but I still urge Punjab CM to see if something can be done to combat the issue and come up with some solutions. Most major airports do have Rail Links. Like, here in England, London Heathrow Airport is connected with Underground and Intercity Rail Network. Also Manchester Airport is well connected with rest of the England. At the same time I must thank the Punjab CM and others who have taken keen interest in building the LRR which is second to none as of in Pakistan...............Pakistan Zindabad........Younus Mumtaz England

Lahore does have a plan for a rapid mass transit train system, but I guess its implementation will take some time, given the flood disaster recently. They have a green line and orange line planned I think, although I am not sure how they connect with the LRR.

Why not a food court instead of one single burger joint? I would rather have a choice of Subway, McD, Dominos etc instead of just one burger restaurant like at the Karachi airport.
