THE 45,000-seater state-of the-art Ndola Stadium is expected to be completed three months ahead of schedule in June from the initial October deadline.
And Bank of Zambia (BoZ) governor Caleb Fundanga who has described the stadium as a masterpiece said the completion of the Ndola Stadium ahead of schedule was a record breaker.
Once the stadium is completed, it would mean that the national soccer team would play the remaining 2012 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) football qualifiers and other major international matches at the Ndola stadium.
Zambia previously used to play international matches at the Konkola Stadium in Chililabombwe which has since fallen out of favour, while Nkoloma Stadium was declared unfit to host international matches of the AFCON magnitude.
Konkola was the only other alternative after the closure of the dilapidated Independence Stadium in Lusaka about five years ago.
The BoZ chief who toured the construction site yesterday said the completion of the works, three months ahead of time, was a record and described the works as impressive.
Fundanga who was amazed at the works carried out by Chinese firm, Anhui Foreign Economic Construction Company (AFECC) also used the opportunity to take pictures of the stadium.
The BoZ governor said the construction of the stadium was a big development in Ndola, especially after the demolition of the Dag Hammerskjoeld Stadium with plans to erect another structure having earlier failed.
He said the construction of the stadium would place Zambia at an advantage as the country would be able to host Confederation of African Football (CAF) competitions unlike at the moment when the country was incapable.
He sad with the completion of the stadium a lot of young players would be inspired to play at the pitch and the nation can once again create great players in the likes of Kalusha Bwalya.
Anhui Foreign Economic Construction Company (AFECC) vice-president Chen Ju said the ultra modern stadium would be completed earlier than the initial deadline.
Chen commended Government and Ndola City Council (NCC)for being helpful during their undertaking of the project.
He said they have a work force of 1,200 workers who also include Chinese experts.
The project here will also help to improve the economy of Ndola because Chinese contractor Anhui Foreign Economic Construction Company (AFECC) had employed the local workers.
During the tour of the stadium, Chen told the BOZ governor that the VIP stand at the stadium would have four floors and elevators would also be installed which will be convenient.
He said the 45,000 sitting capacity would also have a running track while the height of the VIP stand would be about 50.5 metres high.
The bank governor was accompanied by other BoZ directors, including the regional director Morris Mulomba and other staff.

Really? Then you don't know about Zambia.
Zambia just has a small population for the size of these giant stadiums. But Zambia is a Football crazy country. Stadiums of this size should be built in Congo. but we have dummy leaders who don't know how to invest in football.

I didn't know, it's just that they are absent internationally. When you think of football in Africa, countries like Nigeria, Ghana are most likely to come across many people's mind

Thats sad that you don't know about African Football. Where did you live Cote D'ivoire, Cameroun, DRC in African football?
Zambia is the most unpredictible team in African football, it has been in Finals of the ACN and it has some really good players. Such as one of the greatest African Footballer Kalusha Bwalya, They also have the likes of Mbesuma, G. Singuluma (Who plays for Mazembe) the younster Sunzu Stupila. In facts Congolese league has been flooded with Zambian and Zimbabwean players due to high spending Sprea of Congolese teams. They would have gone to South African League.
note . in 1993 Zambian team died in an Airplane crash and only Kalusha wasn't on the plane. In 1994, they went all the way to the final of ACN, but lost to Nigeria 2-1 in a Beautiful , intense Final Game.

THE newly-constructed $65 million Ndola stadium is ready for hand-over to Zambian government but Zamtel are yet to provide a telecommunication link to the site.
And Government says receiving a world-class structure is a challenge as it involves sustaining and maintaining the good standards of the stadium.
Speaking when he briefed a high-powered government delegation yesterday, Anhui Foreign Economic Construction Company (AFECC) vice-president, Chen Ju said after completion of all major works last month, the stadium was ready for hand-over, three months ahead of schedule.
Chen, however, bemoaned Zamtel's failure to hand AFECC a telecommunication link to improve communication at the site saying Zesco Limited and Kafubu Water and Sewerage Company had done their part by supplying electricity and power to the site while Zamtel had not availed telecommunication facilities.
Chen said telecommunication facilities needed to be installed before the stadium was handed-over to the Zambian government adding his firm had already installed communication system at the stadium and were now waiting for telecommunication connectivity.
The AFECC vice-president, who is also stadium project manager, said the site needed to have telephone lines, internet and other telecommunication facilities as a matter of urgency.
He also said AFECC, who have been given another contract to do external works, were waiting for Zamtel before removing optic fibre cables as they build access roads to the stadium.

Permanent Secretary for Administration at Cabinet office, Oliver Kalabo assured AFECC officials that government would act on all areas that need urgent attention to ensure the smooth handover of the stadium to Zambians.
Kalabo, who is team leader for a committee of permanent secretaries to oversee the progress and hand-over of the stadium, said the government had set up a technical team which would work closely with AFECC and ensure all needy areas were addressed.
Flanked by permanent secretaries for Sport, Teddy Mulonga, Communication, Dominic Sichinga, Public Service Management Division, George Kawatu and Copperbelt, Villie
Lombanya, Kalabo said the government would be happy to receive the stadium on behalf of Zambians soon.
He, however, said it would be a big challenge to take-over a world-class structure because it involved sustainability and maintenance.

DennisRodman817 August 14th, 2011, 04:34 AM Ndola Stadium needs safeguarding, says Lopa
By Sports Reporter
ZAMBIA Army commander, Wisdom Lopa has said there is need for stringent measures to safeguard the Ndola stadium once it is handed-over to the Government.
Speaking after a tour of the site on Thursday, Lieutenant-General Lopa said it was important that the stadium was guarded against vandalism, adding it was unacceptable for people to start stealing from the stadium before it was even commissioned and called for the need for security measures to be tightened.
The Army commander was reacting to recent reports of thefts of over 20 speakers at the stadium before they were installed.
Anhui Foreign Economic Construction Company (AFECC) vice-president, Chen Ju said the matter of thefts was reported to the police and that no arrests or recoveries have been made so far and called on the Zambian authorities to ensure to there was tight security at the stadium.
And Chen said AFECC was happy to work with a government technical team which was appointed to facilitate the smooth hand-over of the stadium.
He urged the Government not to change the team saying they needed to master the equipment at the site quickly.
Chen said after the hand-over, AFECC engineers would remain on the site for at least a year and work with the Zambian government technical team on the maintenance and sustainability of the structure.
He said the task of maintaining the stadium standards was enormous and needed to be sustained after a lot of work from both the Chinese and Zambian governments.
Permanent Secretary for Administration at Cabinet Office, Oliver Kalabo said the technical committee appointed by government would oversee the proper hand-over of the $65 million structure and also address all needy areas as required by AFECC.
A Chinese government delegation is also expected before the end of this month for a final inspection before the commissioning of the 40,100-capacity stadium.
hsark August 24th, 2011, 01:09 PM Ndola Stadium Opening Set for Oct 24
22 August 2011
THE Republican President announced yesterday that the newly-constructed sports stadium in Ndola would be commissioned on Zambia's Independence Day.
Speaking in Luanshya when he addressed the miners, business houses and non governmental organizations at Radox Cinema Hall, President Rupiah Banda said the commissioning of the stadium would be a big event.
The President said his administration was committed to infrastructure development which had led to the construction of another modern stadium in Lusaka.
President Banda, who is the Football Association of Zambia patron, said there was abundant talent among the people hence Government's decision to build stadia in all the provincial centres. The construction of other sports infrastructure in all parts of the country would help in the capturing of the untapped talents.
