Pickles is set to relax planning laws to allow empty office towers to be converted into residential towers as a way of offsetting the slowdown in house building and looming property shortage as part of the governments growth strategy.

Question is though what would it cost to replumb, rewire and build sound proofed interior walls for flats in an existing open plan office block?
Its a bit different to converting an old five story mill.

Shouldn't be too difficult. There were quite a few office towers throughout the boom years that were converted to apartments.

And right now, loads are being converted into hotels. There's a fair few in Brum getting the treatment.
