Kampong Lorong Buang Kok, one of the last kampongs left on Singapore island.

There used to be an old kampong sitting on a minute plot of land between to roads that lead to a fork near my house. It's been gone for almost 10 years now, but i still remember it clearly. Looks just like in those pictures, only there was only enough room for one medium-sized shack or sorts. It was right next to a busy main road and a public bus stop. SO weird. It's like, on one side you see busy urban singapore and on the uther you see an old 'one-family kampong'. You don't even have to turn your head to include both in your view.... so strange and surreal...

There's one lonely kampong house by the road, in the forests by Holland Road.
There's another at Pierce Road.Ironically that is a high-class housing estate.

Er...sory i meant uninhabited. The main village is empty, except for the retail outlets, as well as a few isolated homes elsewhere in the island lah.

Disappearing Singapore

Singapore is best known for its modern, air-conditioned shopping malls and high-rise apartment blocks. It is still possible to find Kampung (village) life but you have to search hard for it nowadays. This small village is in the heart of the island surrounded by modern development.

I located several kampong houses, trapped in the time warp of urbanised Singapore!

They are at:

50 Logong G Telok Kurau

6 Logong L Telok Kurau

Lorong H Telok Kurau (missed the house number)

277 & 279 Joo Chiat Place
