lets hope some more developers get on board and develop this part of town, though the only worry is they will bitch (new residents) and get the nightlife that is happening in the area closed down, btw. they have changed the rules now you only need ONE complaint, a resident is trying to get the Hudson Martini Lounge & Gallery (lower king st) to reduce its numbers what could ultimitely kill the place, they move to the city yet they are still as suburban as can be, we don't want the boring suburbanites lets wash the car on the weekend attitude in the heart of the CBD. btw. anyone been to the monkey bar (ex globe murray street) its very swish with multiple rooms, worth a look plus heaps of events (concerts and raves etc..)

I guess ugly carparks is what you have to put up with if you want a car, if we wern't so car depeandent we wouldn't have to worry about ugly carparks, you would think being in the CBD they wouldn't need a car anyway or atleast only a scooter or small car...

You and your fascination with Perth's car dependancy. I don't know of a single large modern apartment complex anywhere in Australia that doesn't have a carpark in it. I don't think you would get many sales without it. Even if it is offered on a seperate lease, especially in the inner city & CBD where street parking is more at a premium.

The fact is, the more money someone is willing to pay for an apartment or a house, the less likely they are willing to go without a car. Even if that car is used only on weekends or for casual trips.

paragon doesn't have parking (hay street) though the units have taken awhile to sell but most are sold now, no ugly carparks, no streetscape wreaking side access lanes, no battling with cars when walking down the street ahhh its bliss, if only all buildings where like that....

They don't have a shared parking agreement with another building or something like that? Just curious, cause I know if I lived in the Perth CBD I would still want a car. I guess there is street parking.

I just say that because even though I would walk most places. Perth is still a car city, simply for its ease of use. For example if I was to go visit my mums (in Noranda) on public transport from the city, it requires two buses (or a train then two buses). While by car I can usually drive there in 15 minutes, which is the time it would normally take me just to wait for a bus transfer in Morley terminal.

perthwa
September 20th, 2004, 11:55 AM
yeah im fine with one car, its just some live in the inner city and drive a few kms down the road, or some still have several cars, and you have to have ugly side lanes, and cars crossing the footpath etc etc... doesen't create a very urban inner city. we need to thinkoutside the square, or in the future it will be a nightmare for pedestrians, look ugly, increase the amount of cars on the road, and really take away from the benifits of higher density development etc etc... maybe atleast screen the carpark better, put it underground and have rear lanes or something better....

lets hope the ground floor cafe has a nice decor and isn't chep and shabby and help with murray streets growing nightlife, and let hope it helps all of westend murray street buzz esp on friday evening/night, imo look pretty plain/boring/dull, to much concrete, to bland but it isn't really striking ugly at the same time, with this and market rise in that pic really shows how the inner city is slowly getting dense and lets hope with this it bring more life and capital city amenities

Yeah it's even more annoying when you find something like this (http://henrietta.liswa.wa.gov.au/search/dDunlop+House+(Perth%2C+W.A.)/ddunlop+house+perth+w+a/-5,-1,0,B/frameset&FF=ddunlop+house+perth+w+a&2,,3) while searching for info on it.
Looks like there was a proposal at one point which would've incorporated the old facade.
Even more annoying was how the shell of the building was demolished so quickly after the fire, I think more should've been done to save it. Kinda suspicious.

yes but people are complaining about very small issues that would not be allowed in the burbs. People have to realise that there will be SOME noise as it IS the CBD!

perthwa
November 4th, 2004, 02:58 AM
I don't think its always that little, the fact is the city can be loud, and some developers are about getting $$ and dont' wana any extra costs, smart planning with double glazing etc.. can be all it needs to make life comfotable, now the laws are one complaint can get venues closed, the grovsenor was famous for perth's live origional music and because of one complaint goodby live bands, so they lost alot of money and punters and therefore alot of life, so residents are good for getting life for a city? yet we get more residents and our venues are forced to close in the end making the city more dead that before the residents moved in? it seems alot of people move urban but are still suburbanists at heart, thats why i dont want to see residential getting closer to northbridge entertrainment heart, we need smart urban planning and mixed use policy and good policy for noise ruduction into residential units, its gets so insane that some venues are only allowd such entertainment as pianos because everything else would be 'to loud'

Hi all,

Was in the city the other day. Hadn't been in for a while as I live out of town.
Took a few photos from Statton . Will send them through when I get a chance.

Anyone know what might be built on top of the new Ug train station? This is a very significant site. It needs something special. Probably can't go too high cause of height restrictions due to Murray street mall.

Maybe they will build a clone of Perth Central so Kmart or BigW can open up opersite to Target. Nah I am just being pessimistic, Perth has a habit of dropping the ball when it comes to significant CBD projects, at least in the last decade. I highly doubt you would get anything of height or a land mark there. Though I hope I am wrong.

and, no pictures?

There is not that many photos that you can take of Perth that havn't been done 100 times already. I guess I could take photos of all four sides of CP and then the three sides of the Bankwest Tower? :jk:

No Ive got a few pics, but I am on dialup so I cant upload them to my server till I am back in Sydney.

When ever im in QV-1 i aways look down and imagen it in 20-30 years. What they do these days is keep the old fronts and build the new building behind.
North Perth needs fixing no tall/ New buildings buildings go up because, there is no veiw of the river at all. if a 300 Meter building ever goes up it would/should go there.

Testra tower should be killed and a new one built.

Entertainment center center should go get replaced, rail should sink and a park on top of it then mabey development might sneek in.
