Hey everyone, I'm having some problems with my rail network

I've laid it along and inside different industrial areas throughout my cities and region and added cargo frieght stations - but nothing is really happening. I thought they were used just to transport goods from one area to another - is there something different I should try? Should they go into commercial areas, as the commercial areas will sell the things that are made?

Thanks for any help!

download some alternative caro / passenger stations. i've found they work so much better than the normal ones.

The industry in my city doesn't seem to favour rail at all unless their zone backs right onto a rail line.

But that's probably because a well connected road network and several seaports makes up for it.

If your industry is already close to a neighbor or seaport, it sees no use for having rail and will just ship via trucks instead. And actually, freight stations are not required to make the businesses use rail, they just need to be close to a rail line (stations are good for when you have industry far away from anything.
