just enough JRQ, i strightly stand with my opinion, dont blame me create accusations,i already boring with u..when CB voter said petronas is ugly,u just silent without anything to say, when they say petronas is shit,u said atleast they dont attack personal ,when i said f**k,u say im rude, then when i said ugly,u said i dont respect people, when i asking a question,u blame me demand,

common..i can see how is childish now.dasar mat saleh pilih bulu!

People can look back throughout my posts, then through yours. I always call Petronas Towers beautiful, especially that one photo from off in the distance with Petronas rising up....it was gorgeous, and I mean that.
I simply refuse to let your comments slip by; and as long as you continue to act like you have throughout this competition, I will continuously point you out.

And I don't find myself to be pious at all: nor do I show favoritism. Check my previous Chrysler vote: I voted for the Burj Khalifa / Burj Dubai Tower instead. My record stands, whereas yours does not.

Btw, thank you for your compliments on the photos; I appreciate them.

When this contest is closed I'll run a couple of scripts on the voting database to weed out ghost votes, multiple accounts and other issues. Hence whoever leads after the close might not be declared the eventual winner. If the vote is tied, my vote will be decisive.

The cheat amount in this finale seems to be minimum. And this is SSC 1st Supertall Tall World Cup. Errors are meant to happen. Lets hope for a better tournament next time. Hope it doesn't effect the final counting. I won't be happy if my choice won because of cheating. To me, both tower deserve to be a winner.

Just one last time, is it possible for future competitions to have equal quality images?

ie, images should show the complete tower from similar angles? I know its possible, i just hope it gets reinforced. I understand its not a photo competition, i'm not asking for one. I just hope to get a good impression of the towers when i click to see which towers are up for competition.

I also understand that we must 'KNOW' the tower before we vote for them. Its because i know some of the towers which annoys me when images are unjust to them.

The first way to stamp out cheating is to be fair with the images displayed.

Some days ago I cleaned out a couple of votes for the Chrysler Building casted by multiple accounts. I didn't detect any of these casted in the last days. Weeding these out and being 100% sure of it is pretty time consuming.

It's always possible someone has registered a couple of accounts but the level at which I check now under normal circumstances these votes wouldn't make a difference. These are not normal circumstances though. There really is an even split between the two.

The semi finals had far more fake votes, but as I banned all accounts involved, it seems vote rigging has been a lot less in the finals. I really don't understand the thinking behind cheating in a contest like this - the results don't matter in any material sense, and unless the contest is fair they don't even mean anything.

I guess I have mostly the same tastes as the other posters here, though, since it became harder and harder to decide each round.

Indeed, congratulations and thanks are due to Chrysler and Jan. :). But there really was never a loser in this competition. So many awsome buildings were nominated, it was sad to see some of them loose out. But then again, the winners were/are also very good and beautiful designs.

It ended with 2 of the 4 favorite buildings of mine in the final. And it is so close in the end, that we actually can say we have 2 winners and for sure no losers.

But, by the numbers Chrysler has won, so again, congratulations are in place, even though I voted Petronas because of their significane to the country they are build in where Chrysler was outdone (in height) by the ESB about 1 year after is was completed.

Still I can live with this result very comfortably. ;).

I thought the acceptance speech was bit over-the-top, myself.

"First off, I'd like to thank all my friends and family for their support. I wouldn't be here tonight without you."

"To Mr. Van Allen, my designer, and to the Chrysler Corporation for commissioning my existence... This is for you! A big shout out, also, to the hundreds of construction workers, engineers and support laborers who put me together.

"To New York city, The Big Apple - Big props to my hometown! I love New York! Always have, always will. Maybe now you pigeons who keep crapping on my roof will give me a bit more respect! And hey, Hollywood, how about a romantic movie where the couple wants to meet at my place rather than down the island at Empire State?! Listen to the president and spread the wealth, will ya?!

"I would like to tell the Petronas Towers they did a great job. I was honored to be recognized alongside such noble structures, and I certainly don't think all that steel cladding is cold and sterile. Best of luck to you in your future ventures, and may we cross paths again someday.

"Thank you, everyone! You like me! You really, really like me!" *sniff*

Actually the plan is to coincide these with the international football tournaments, so the next World Cup will be summer 2014. In between we'll do continental cups to coincide with their respective cups. Europe is up next summer. :)

In addition to the continental cups, there should be a 2 "futures" tournaments, one for buildings under construction and one for proposals; also a "bust" tournament of buildings that never were built (Chicago Spire comes to mind) would be cool.

You're right. The admins on this site pre-organized the brackets so that the ESB and Chrysler buildings would have an easy path to the finals, and then whenever they were in trouble and may not win, tampered with the voting. In some cases even to the extent to make it look close just so people wouldn't suspect anything. And they did all this not for financial gain because they assume anonymity being that it's an online tournament, but instead so that two buildings could be finalists in an online skyscraper tournament. It's genius.

The voting has closed, although it was still possible to vote through the archive pages. I took that one offline for the moment. Final score is Chrysler 949 - 946 Petronas. There are a couple of incidents involving multiple accounts I want to look at since the margin is so thin, but most of these concern Petronas so it seems that Chrysler is the winner. :)

For me, the winner will always be the Empire State Building. I remember driving up to NYC as a kid, with the view of the huge clutter of buildings from the turnpike, except for one building stsanding tall above the rest, the beautifully illuminated ESB. It was the pinnacle of NYC, with the red, white, and blue lighting at night, dwarfing everything else. It was a truly magical view. :)

Congratulations Chrysler! That was a match-up for the ages.

Some of my future ideas for these contests include...
-City with the best 2nd tallest building
-2000's Cup
-Best Architectural Style
-Best Hotel tower (interested to see that Macau building battle it out with Vegas)
-Best "specific business cluster" such as La Defense, IBC, Canary Wharf, etc (Pudong and the new Guangzhou one are probably tops right now)
-Best Bridge
-Best observation tower
-Most futuristic skyline
-Best skyline transformation since 2000

Would like to see a thread similar to "London vs Frankfurt", but pitting Australian skylines against Canadian skylines (maybe just top 4, Sydney/Melbourne/Brisbane/Perth or GC vs Toronto/Calgary/Montreal/Vancouver) Would be cool because I always felt like those 2 countries had similar sizes and relatively even skylines.

Also single questions such as "height vs density"

Ok that's it, just brainstorming here but I have somewhere to be so time to stop!

There is only one matchup at the time, but as you need a few days in between rounds, it's possible to run multiple tournaments, as we do now.

Sydney vs. Melbourne would be the top 8 buildings by height of both cities.

Yes, third round, my mistake. But its still too early on.

Shanghai Tower is the most favourited supertall project on this forum, and it has more votes than Freedom Tower in the "Favourite Supertall" thread. However, when they meet already in the third round, Freedom Tower will win because there are more Americans on this forum. And if Shanghai Tower wins, the Americans will accuse the Asians for making fake accounts and Freedom Tower will win anyway.

Just my theory. And in my opinion we could avoid these troubling negotiations during the cup if the starting bracket changed a bit and put Shanghai Tower and Freedom Tower a bit more aside from each other.

Accusations of fake accounts doesn't immediately make the other tower win. Only if it turns out to be true when Jan checks might it mean that, and there'd still need to be enough of them to lower the score a long way.

I would say also that there are probably more asians on here than americans, simply because there are way way more of them in the world.

I'm disappointed you would say that....If you say that about China, then no telling what you think about Burj Khalifa and the U.A.E.

For the vast majority of this thread, Americans have held their composure and been fairly unbiased, when you consider other national groups. I myself did not vote for the Chrysler building when it was placed against Burj Khalifa. I found the Burj to be more appealing to me, regardless of location. Americans aren't as egotistical and 'superior' acting as the world views us....our politicians may act that at times, but that's what politicians do.
Sort of how China is taunting their new air craft carrier, the first outside of the United States. Taiwan then promptly issues their declaration of the "aircraft carrier killer missile." Gotta love politicians, all across the globe. Point being, don't generalize Americans, and we won't generalize anyone else.

I'm not sure if there is a specific feature on the new carrier which only US carriers have had previously, which may be what you are talking about, but I can tell you 100%, there are at least 9 other countries with aircraft carriers including China. just saying they're working with an aircraft carrier doesnt mean anything. for what ive known they've had one for 10 years and its been used as a merchant ship.

also this is a skyscraper forum not country bashing. its clear to me that divine is just trying to be a troll.

we all know shanghai tower and freedom tower are great towers lets just leave it up to the poll to see which is truly better.

I'm not sure if there is a specific feature on the new carrier which only US carriers have had previously, which may be what you are talking about, but I can tell you 100%, there are at least 9 other countries with aircraft carriers including China. Just thought I'd clear that up. Good on ya for trying to keep people in check dude.

Ha, you're very correct on the number slip. Usually I'm good at correcting people, but you caught me on a statistical error. Party Time!!!

Regardless of the number, the point is still as valid as before. I am unbiased on my decisions, as are many of my fellow American forumers. The same can be said for many Asian forumers, with the few exceptions of certain small-minded people.

Yes, I also wish everyone would think like this. However it would be naive to ignore the bitter truth. The above post by philipx is an example of how many voters are thinking.

Yeah, I think Phill was joking, but the point that Divine was making is equally upheld by that sarcasm as it would be if he were serious. There are many people who do think like this and it's a real problem for the world.

its not his opinion that hes calling stupid. its him claiming the majority of people have the same opinion as him.

He is suspecting it, and therefore he tells it. I share that suspicion, and it wouldn't surprise me if you are doing that too. :tongue3:

i agree, also when you take a ride up genting, you are on the mountain looking down on the city and still see the two towers from kilometers away. its so beautiful.

Hehe I was there last year, in the bar in Traders Hotel to view the Petronas Towers, and lo and behold, I could see Genting

FAIL OMG. The CN tower is 553 meters, the Willis tower antennae are 527 meters, thus this picture is BOGUS, the buildings are arranged by pinnacle height, which seems correct, but the CN tower should be replaced with Burj Khalifa to keep the heights intact.

Yes they were 'fat ass'. because way back then, when neither of us were born, they designed everything manually, using drafting boards (remember those?) and NY had (still has?) zoning laws to prevent humongous towers blocking sunlight, so large base and thin tower.

Question....on the right side, are they Messeturm and Commerzbank???

Chrysler and Empire are ugly.
I am sorry -_-

old boxes
you sent new buildings in a basket, but you have advanced their buildings...

Only someone from Moscow could call the Chrysler Building ugly!
I think some of the new 'scrapers in that city are just plain hideous but there you go. Actually, I really like Moscow (well, some of it) :)

I think the Sears tower should of beat the burj. The main excuse was because the Burj height and its new. But I think the Sears tower looks better not only by its self but its surrounding. Its the USA's icon. I really wanted to the the Sears vs Chrysler.

Everything is as expected so far, but before being able to go to the final, our Petronas Twin Towers will have to face the Empire State Building. I wonder how well they will fair. I really hope the twins will win. *crosses fingers*
