Dakar is a an interesting city if one happens to ask me. It has recent modern large glass and steel structures, streets that are filled with shops, modern large cement structures, streets are filled with life, colonial French structures, Sahelian Islamic structures, ect.

Not old at all, it was created very late 2007, late December 2007 to be exact and it has images from 2007-2008. Not to get on your nerves, that isn't my intention, but we have a policy on this section that a lot of us follow. For instance, we open one city gallery and this is the one most of us use and add images on, until it reaches it's limit and a new one can be opened. This way we avoid double image posting and having 2 similar threads. It's understandable if one visited a particular location and took the images themselves and crreated their own personal gallery for all to see. :yes:

According to the French language source where I found those images just a few days ago, Matt. Unless they mixed up their images ? But I believe we are viewing Dakar from a different angle and position in the city. Most typical long shot or panoramic images of the city are usually from the coast.

I am no Dakar expert but i doubt this is the city. The vegetation doesn't seem right and Dakar doesn't seem to have as many highrises.

I just love Dakar, Senegal. My summer holidays as a kid living in Ghana where always spent in Dakar.

Two good and fun filled years of my life were spent living in this fabulous African country.

Hence, just as there are ‘countless Senegalese’ seeking to leave Senegal, believe me, there are countless non-Senegalese seeking to come to Senegal.

CroissantLBV do you lives in Dakar to give this kind of jugment ?? you can double easily the number of building in the center of Dakar builded after independance of Senegal, and talk about african side of Dakar lets take a look of suburbs area like Fann, Point E, Mermoz, Ouakam, Almadies, Ngor, Yoff, Sacre Coeur Vdn all this area are nice place with big house 500 to 1000 sq/m2 build( North West of the city) like you have in your best suburb Developp country and nice offices buildings but with a maximum of 5 floors it s were the new senegal lives, work, and play with everything you have in a Develop area near sunny beach mall, shops,tons of restaurants, hotels, casinos, night clubs ...., there are so few pictures of this area growing so fast Were do you think are the earthquater of companies or organisations they all lives the center to much trafficjam for this area but no problem think that we had a nice european center and an horrible african center!!! Just take a look with google earth of all the west area from the South CBD and the north west .....After that you ll had a better realistic view of my city!

Look I am not talking of countries where there is utter poverty or properity but there are countries where poverty is heavily reduced and life is worth living , the state catre s for its citizens. Which countries?

Loook at Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, Luxembourg, Sweden or Norway!

Why can´t this happen in Africa, even "poor" European countries like Portugal , Spain or Greece are out of reach in terms of development and social well-being of citizens for us Africans? Do we see Portuguese or Spaniards taking their boats and swimming to Africa?

Il est vrai que la situation economique est difficile avec la hausse des prix mais c est le cas dans tous les pays en developpement non producteurs de petrole ou ayant une croissance inferieure a 8 %. Merci au fait pour mes photos de touristes cest des zones que beaucoup de Senegalais harpentent tous les jours ou il y a justement tres peu de touristes qui se contentent de Goree , de la place de l independance et du marche Kermel avant de filer hors de Dakar vers Saly.
Il y a de la misere au Senegal c est indeniable mais une franche certes malheureusement minoritaire qui s'enrichit et sort la tete de l eau s est ideniable je vois au minimum 5 porsche cayenne, 3 hummer ou CL par jour sans parler des X5 ou Ml, classe S,CLS auquel on ne fait meme plus gaffe et sa mon chere s est tous de meme un signe revelateur d'un enrichissemnt des populations cela se generalisera avec le temps cela entraine un boom de l immobilier 25% de croissance annuel, de la consommation boutiques restaurants demande a tes amis senegalais sil connaissent le Mogador, le montecristo, l ozio, la Fourchette,astoria, le terroubi, le lagon, le Cozy ...je peux te dire que tu ne verras que des senegalais dans ces restaurants qui non rien a envier aux meilleurs tables que tu trouves en Europe ou au USA si un jour tu viens a Dakar vas y faire un tour mes je te previens ta carte bleu va chauffe tres tres fort!!rien que dans mon quartier les almadies il y a plus de 60 restaurants recenses et je ne te parle pas de cabane ou maquis! Je discutais hier soir justement avec un camerounais qui me disait que Dakar avait 15 ans d'avance sur Yaounde dans plusieurs domaines et c est vrai que lorsqu on regarde sur google earth avec toutes les richesses minieres et agricoles que vous avait s est assez descevant compare au Senegal pays Sahelien sans ressources minieres ou autres pour nous developper!!!!

Va faire un tour en Asie aussi mon chere pour ma part je connais l inde et la Chine tu as une richesse est un developpement impressionnant mais une misere aussi terrible car je n est jamais vue de bebe dans des cannivaux de bvd a Dakar contrairement a Delhi d ailleurs nos statistiques de developpement sont meilleurs que celle de l inde dont je suis sur que tu ne porterais pas de tel jugement !

Biya a détruit TOUS ce que El Hajj Ahmadou Ahidjo a construit pour notre beau pays. Idem pour la Côte d´ivoire après Félix Houphoët-Boigny, il y en beaucoup d´autres. cela me rend triste, très triste.

Quel cliche revoit ta copie " mon chere frere": Nostalgie des presidents d'independance pour commencer, que de la misere en Afrique tu portes le meme jugement qu'une gamine de 13 ans du colorado qui n est jamais sortie de son trou et le peu de richesse c est la corruption!!!

Evidement qu il y a de la corruption en Afrique je ne connais pas ton pays mais pour notre part au Senegal il y a evidement de grosse fortune politique mais ce que j essaie de TE DIRE depuis le debut c est qu une nouvelle generation d'entrepreneurs est ne!!! Et le developpemnt toutes proportions gardes qu on voit en Asie existe aussi en Afriquede l'ouest: Senegal,Mali, Ghana,Cap-Vert, Burkina... et au fait ce genre de debat on lieu dans une autres section ici on poste des photos flatteuses ou pas comme est le monde !!!
Moi je vit au Senegal j y suis rentrais apres mes etudes pour faire quelques choses pour mon pays au lieu de rester comme tant d autres mener une vie de salaries banals a l'etrangers !! On en voit vite les resultats je mene une vit tres agreable avec un confort que 20 ans de labeur en Europe n'aurait put m'offrir!! Mais si seulemnt plus de personnes avait le courage de rentrer dans leur pays la les choses evolurer plus rapidement!!!
Quant a l'emigration de Senegalais elle a plus de 60 ans il y a plus de 2 millions de senegalais qui vivent a l'etrangers c est un phenomene social tres important depuis toujours et qui bien evidemment continuera que la situation economique soit bonne ou pas c est dans nore culture on dit meme qu on trouve des Senegalais au Groenland!! !!!

You don't know how happy I am seening these two photos. You have taken me back to my youth, because that block of flats is the very same one that I live in for nearly 2 years when I lived in Senegal in the early 80s.

I like this type of rather dense urban space composed of low and mid-rises! Judging from the pictures Dakar has a lot of potential and looks already fairly nice.

The Building below...has a very high quality, the only ones I have seen like this in Africa are the ones in Durban.

Pffttttt !!! Alors là je dis respect !!

Hier je suis allé visiter le nouveau centre commercial de Dakar, construit à proximité de l’hôtel Radisson sur la corniche Ouest. Ce nouveau centre (le Seaplaza) est tout simplement formidable. On retrouve enfin un centre commercial digne des villes occidentales. En effet jusqu’à présent nous étions limités sur Dakar à la fréquentation des Casinos (les hypermarchés) avec leur galerie commerciale composée d’une dizaine maximum de magasins.

Dans le cas du Seaplaza il s’agit d’un vrai centre commercial avec environ 170 commerces à l’intérieur, un supermarché mais également un cinéma et un bowling (toujours en construction). Le cinéma sera le premier digne de ce nom à Dakar !! C’est carrément une révolution pour cette ville et ses habitants (aisés..) qui pourront retrouver dans ce lieu des enseignes telles que Benetton,Mango, Hugo Boss, Celio, 1.2.3, …

Bon effectivement les travaux ne sont pas encore totalement terminé, mais comme on est à Dakar ils ont quand même ouvert la galerie en avance histoire de l’amortir au plus tôt ! C’est pas grave, moi j’adore !

I just love Dakar, Senegal. My summer holidays as a kid living in Ghana where always spent in Dakar.

Two good and fun filled years of my life were spent living in this fabulous African country.

If you haven't been to Senegal then make sure you do so one day!

I went there countless times and absolutely LOVE this city.

It has anything and though it's not in the league of Cape Town, Casablanca or pre-war Abidjan it is an amazing African city.

Premiers tours de piste aux Antilles
Déjà tous petit il en rêvait. Avec le temps ( et les bonnes notes scolaires, conditions obligatoire pour vivre ce sport quand on est jeune et que c’est papa qui finance ! ) il a enfin eu son 1er Kart.

Kart 4 temps, 390 cm3
C’est donc en septembre 2006 que Sporteam a acheté un kart 4 temps, 390 cm3 d’occasion. Aussitôt acheté, aussitôt nettoyé et vérifié….puis , premiers essais sur le circuit du club Da’Kart à Dakar.
Une prise en main très rapide, un pilotage prometteur et un kart qui globalement se comporte bien.
C’est un bon début. Faudra maintenant le confirmer !

Championnat du Sénégal
Composé de 8 courses de 3 manches chacune, ce championnat est trés bien organisé. Les Kart sont tous identiques et le règlement sportif et technique ne permets pas de grandes modifications. Le pilotage fait donc la différence.

Bon début de championnat
Après 3 manches du championnat, Mathieu est 2eme au classement général en etant monté sur le podium à toutes les courses... pas mal pour un début

it's still going. but it seems to have concentrated mainly in the central locations of the city and a few select suburbs. i will be heading there soon and get you some pictures of what i mean.
