WOW. That is a pretty mondern city. It has some great views.

While there are some really nice photos in there, I think that a good chunk of them should be replaced with links. I was watching my browser count how much space those pictures took to download, and it hit nearly 5 megs just for that one post. That's a good hour of downloading time for someone stuck with a 56k.

@clashman, firstly, I feel your pain! It does suck to download pics with a 56k modem, but this website is called SkyscraperCity and that's because we post pictures of skyscrapers and other buildings. We don't do links, and besides, you still have to spend the time downloading them at another site.

Secondly, 8/10. Quito is very beautiful. It does look a fairly modern city. What is

Quito has approximately 2 million people, maybe just over 2 million people if you count the adjacent lower valley suburbs. These lower valleys have seen an urban explosion since the mid 90's and nowdays some of the most wealthy people live down there and commute up and down to the city. The new airport is being built down there as well.

^^There are no tall buildings because the city is located in a very thight high valley and the airport (as you can see on some of the pics above) sits amist the city. The airport is moving to a lower valley soon and only then will taller buildings be permitted.

I like the rows of apartments on the valleys, too bad of the height limits and the valley or it could have a very nice skyline.

^^Yheap...the city is located in a very high small valley tucked on the skirts of a volcano....like a crescent shape elevated bowl that wraps around the volcano. As far as large cities go, Quito has one of the best natural surroundings. The skyline is dense and fairly attractive, though it lacks height and architectural integrity. Beautiful nevertheless.

Wow, Quito surprised me! It looks like Sao Paolo or Rio. What an ample amount of development!! Due to its high altitude, it is quite understadable why there has to be a height limitation of its buildings. In addition, Ecuador lays on top of the Ring of Fire making it an earthquake zone as well. Anyway, 7 for me!!

i think someone hacked into my acount and gave quito a 10/10. moderators please work on that. anyway, i would've given it an 8/10 for nice density, but bad poverty (i've been there before).

WOW! What an amazingly spectacular city...

The landscape is one of the world's most beautiful and exotic, and the density and sheer number of buildings is very impressive.

If the buildings had more interesting designs, it would be practially perfect, as the lack of height doesn't really bother me. Some how it just looks appropriate in that setting.
