Brisbanes first real substantial structure was the French Renaisance style House of Parliment at Bot gardens

Designed by Charles Tiffin, the 3 storey building was built in 3 stages.
1865-68- main bldg, 1875-78 collonade, Alice st wing-1888-91
the main dome reaches 31m/103ft high!

soon after completion in march 1869

the facade totals 94m/308ft long!

And the roof thing where the cars drive under near the door(sorry, can't remember the name of it) was only added in the 1990's I think.

The original plan was to have a square building. Except the first wing of the building cost almost twice as much as the entire project was supposed to. Typical Queensland for you.

^^That's the one.

Last time I was in Brisbane, they were restoring the Alice street facade.

Queensland Parliament House is probably my favourite of all the Parliaments in Australia. South Australia second.

You don't have a list of chronologically tallest for Bris handy do you Culwulla or anyone else?

It'd be something like this right? few missing I think.
1868 Parliament House 31m
1889 Albert St Uniting Church 42m
1889 St Pauls 45m
1930 City Hall 86m
1969 T&G 88m
1971 Suncorp Plaza 118m
1977 AMP Centre 135m
1988 Central Plaza 1 174m
into the future Riparian then Aurora then Vision

By the way is Parliament House Annexe really as ugly as it looks?

I don't mind the annex, it's odd yes, but in a functional way.

I'm sure Cul will have the definitive list on building heights, but Skyscraperpage diagrams has these differences.

1930 City Hall 96m
1970 SGIO tower (not Suncorp Metway, a seperate building) 100m
1973 Suncorp Metway 118m
1973 Emirates House 119m
A bit of mid 70's confusion about the 1976 MLC/Hitachi 112m roof, or 142m spire.
1977 AMP 135m
1986 Riverside 142m
1988 Central Plaza 174m

Also Torbreck, 1960, 68m gets counted on some lists, I guess by people not counting the Clock Tower as a building.

It'snot the best looking building on Earth, but it's certainly not the worst. Apparently, it's really nice inside

ill tell everyone once. skyscrapepage is so inacurate its not funny. go by ss.com! i compiled mosts tats for that. i had nothing to do with ssp.

1.City hall is 86m NOT 96m. ive viewed plans at state library. Its 96m is the RL.
2.In 1970 the 105m Westpac Bank just topped out before SGIO bldg.
3.SGIO is Suncorp metway at 108m roof and 118m to clock.
4.Emerates house was never tallest! its original height was 96m. It was extended in 1992 to 119m to spires.
5.MLC was 111m to roof and 142m antenna. it was higher then SGIO to roof.
6. its a hard one weather to include Torbreck in Brisbanes tallest chronoligally? its so far from CBD. (2km).
if you didnt include it there are a few that slot in.
theres first scraper to surpass 40m height limit-Pearl Insurance (61m/16st/1965)
then-Eagle Towers (67/17st/1966)
after that was Manufacturers Mutual 88m/21st/1967)
im actually doing a detaiiled diagram of Brisbanes chrono tall. Austcorps architects want to see it.
cheers

Oi, I reckon the NSW Parliament House is the ugliest Parliament House on Earth. It looks like a shed that they pulled out of Dubbo or somewhere
