New police station opens in Tbilisi

New police station opened in Mtatsminda district of Tbilisi on Saturday. The construction process in Tabukashvili Street lasted for few months. On the ground, the old police station was rehabilitated and replaced with a new 5-storey office.
The new police station is equipped with contemporary machinery in accordance with international standards.
This is the 17th building constructed within the Infrastructure Development Project of Georgia`s Interior Ministry.
Over 70 people have been employed in the new station.
Interior Minister and Tbilisi Mayor jointly opened the new police station in Mtatsminda today.

Georgia - one of the safest European states

The presentation of the survey of criminal situation and security in Georgia was held at the Hotel Courtyard Marriot today. The survey has shown that Georgia is one of the safest states in Europe.
The representatives of Diplomatic Corps, civil society and the governmental authorities were attending the presentation today.
The author of the survey, professor of the Tilburg International Institute, Doctor Jan Jan van Dijk hailed the results of the survey, saying the fact that the number of crimes has significantly reduced in the country, was obvious and it was the result of the reforms carried out by Georgian government in recent years.
Georgian authorities have also expressed their satisfaction with the results of the public survey. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Eka Zghuladze defines that the reduction of crime in Georgia was also confirmed by the UN global survey this year, which said that Georgian police was one of the non-corrupt law enforcer bodies around the world and with the highest rate of public confidence.
`What is most important for me is the opinion of the people, who had contact with patrol police when they had problems or when they were witnesses and interrogated in connection with specific cases. They approve the work of the police. We are very proud hat only Finland and United States have better results in this sphere,` Zghuladze said.
The survey was funded by the European Union and three thousand citizens were interviewed. The survey showed that the index of safety in the society is very high, civilians trust police. These ratings show that Georgia has taken the leading position in Eastern Europe.

FBI delegation arrives in Georgia

Representatives of the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrived in Tbilisi on Sunday. The 25-member delegation of the American law enforcers visited the police academy today and saw the facilities round.
Within the 5-day visit, the guests intend to hold meetings with Georgia`s interior and justice ministers.
A conference is also scheduled to be held in Georgia. The representatives of the FBI permanently conduct similar seminars in different countries.
During the visit, the guests are getting acquainted with local reforms and sharing their experience to Georgian law enforcers.

Georgia`s Interior Minister talks about police reforms to Ukrainian TV-show

Georgia`s Interior Minister took part in Ukrainian Journalist Savik Shuster`s show Shuster Live on a Ukrainian channel. Vano Merabishvili gave interview to the channel from Tbilisi.
Reforms carried out in the law enforcement structures of Georgia were discussed in the interview with the Georgian minister.
Vano Merabishvili said one of the main achievements of the reforms was the population`s increased trust in the police of Georgia.
In the same TV-show the Ukrainian interior minister also took part. He invited his Georgian counterpart to Ukraine for sharing the Georgian experience.

The lab is equipped with the latest computer innovations in full compliance with the contemporary international standards.
It has become possible to: carry out various research activities in a limited period of time, increase the level of researches or examinations in order to improve forensic services in general.
Researches like phonoscopy and habidoscopy, video and audio encryption are also available to be conducted at the newly opened laboratory.

Yet another transparent building has been opened in Tbilisi. The 20-th police office was opened by the Minister of Interior Vano Merabishvili and the Mayor of Tbilisi Gigi Ugulava today. The building was designed by the students of the Tbilisi Technical University.
The new police office will serve the 3-rd and the 4-th districts of the Temka settlement with the staff of 35 officers.

Internal Ministry to purchase adjustable surveillance cameras for policemen

Ministry of Internal Affairs announced tender on the purchase of 2900 adjustable surveillance cameras on police uniforms for patrol officers on May 7. The mentioned cameras are intended for Patrol Police crews and for patrol-inspectors throughout Georgia. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, tender on adjustable surveillance cameras is being held in open and transparent environment. Public was informed on equipping patrol-inspectors with cameras before the tender was announced and It is also notable that presentation on the mentioned subject was also held for media.
Video cameras are applied for monitoring Patrol Police employees, to raise credibility in defending human rights, to expose objective reality and in order to evaluate the rightfulness of decisions made by patrol police officers in particular cases. In accordance with definitions provided by the law, civilians will be warned about video recording in advance by a patrol-inspector.
Similar methods are approbated in the United States, Great Britain and a number of European countries.
The mentioned innovation will improve the level of interaction between police and population, considering that video records will be available for both parties to prove their innocence.
