KTC to take pvt buses on contract
HERALD REPORTER (http://oheraldo.in/news/Main%20Page%20News/KTC-to-take-pvt-buses-on-contract/47719.html)

To run trial with five buses from May 1

In a major decision, Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) has decided to take private buses on contract and run them on a trial basis from May 1.

KTCL Chairman Deepak Dhavlikar told Herald that the bus crew would, however, be from the Corporation and the buses would display the Kadamba logo. To start with, the Corporation has decided to take just five buses.
“Several private bus operators had approached us but for now, we are going ahead with only five buses, which will run State routes from May 1”, he said. However, gauging the response from the public, the Corporation will add another 20 buses from May 15, he added.

The decision will bring the much-needed relief to hundreds of passengers who are at the mercy of private bus operators — often on strike for petty reasons.

The recent day-long strike called by All Goa Private Bus Owners Association, had forced Government to deploy an additional 50 KTC buses, which also included buses from the inter-State route.

Dhavlikar said that the decision to take over private buses resulted from the frequent strikes by private bus owners.

“The private bus owners always rued that their business suffered losses. Now we will be in a position to find out whether they are really in a loss”, he said.

The decision also aims to cope with the huge financial loss, the Corporation is going through. “This will help us in earning revenue, which will help us to overcome our financial situation to some extent”, the Chairman said.
He said that the Corporation is also planning to introduce more routes, where buses from additional fleet will run.

KTCL, which has a fleet of around 397 buses, had recently added five new high-tech buses. These buses were part of the total 20 buses sponsored under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
The Corporation, however, is still in the dark whether they will be successful in getting Central funds for the remaining 15 buses lying idle at a private depot.

Running buses on all the social obligatory routes, the village routes and students special buses are felt to be contributing to the losses to the government, he said.

Dhavalikar stated that inorder to improve profitability of the corporation, the KTC plans to bring in more routes under it and to exclude all other private stage carriage operators.

Govt to nationalize more routes to benefit KTC

PANAJIi: The state government is planning to nationalize some more routes in Goa to improve the profitability of its Kadamba transport corporation limited (KTCL), transport minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar has stated.

Dhavalikar also said that the government plans to make timely renewal of reciprocal agreement with Karnataka and Maharashtra so that more interstate permits can be made available to KTCL to improve its profitability. These are two of the measures outlined by Dhavalikar to improve the profitability of the ailing government-run Kadamba transport corporation.

Dhavalikar also said the government has plans to direct KTCL to introduce shuttle service on routes such as Panaji-Pernem, Panaji-Valpoi, Margao-Canacona, Margao-Colva, Mapusa-Calangute.

The government plans to support KTCL with share capital, subsidy, grant-in-aid, etc. for operating social obligatory services and giving concession to various classes of the societies as per government directive, Dhavalikar said. The government will keep control on functioning of KTCL in terms of improvement of revenue.

The transport minister said that the government plans to direct the corporation to keep control on costs by fixing target and quota for high usage value items such. Importantly, the government also plans to increase KTCL fleet and the KTCL operation within Goa upto 25% by purchasing new buses and introducing more potential routes, Dhavalikar said. Giving other details, he said that the total liability of the corporation amounts to 123.50 crore including two overdue loans of 42.46 crore and 13.23 crore. The total monthly income is 514.32 lakh, the total monthly expenditure is 809.46 lakh giving a gap of 295.14 lakh.

Kamat lays corner stone for transport hub

MARGAO: Chief minister Digambar Kamat on Thursday affirmed that his government was committed to protecting the interests of the land losers and assured that those who have lost their land for development projects would be adequately compensated by the government.

Kamat made this statement at a function after laying the foundation stone for the ultra modern transport hub, near the KTC bus stand, Margao. Spread over 16 acres of land, the project will be developed by Goa state infrastructure development corporation ( GSIDC) and will be handed over to the Kadamba transport corporation (KTC) upon its completion.

The transport hub will include, besides a modern bus stand, a retail mall, a hotel block, corporate block for commercial space, parking facilities, etc. Speaking further, Kamat hoped that the modern bus stand would help the KTC come out of the red and sustain itself financially. Reminding the audience that the KTC was set up to meet some of government's social obligations, the chief minister urged the KTC employees to work with sincerity and dedication.

Stating that tenders for construction work will be floated soon, Kamat assured that adequate funds will be made available by the government for the timely construction of the project.

Speaker of the Goa legislative assembly, Pratapsingh Rane (R), who was instrumental in setting up KTC 31 years ago, advised the KTC authorities that enough emphasis be laid by the corporation on "social good" even as efforts should be made to make good the financial losses.

Fatorda MLA Damodar 'Damu' Naik, in his address, urged Kamat to give justice to the farmers who have lost their land for government projects in Fatorda - the new collectorate building, the district hospital project, etc. "It's imperative that they be given justice, or else we will have to take to the streets over the issue," Naik said, however stressing that he was averse to politicizing the issue. He strongly underscored the need to preserve the glory of Margao by protecting the few existing paddy fields in the city.

Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik advised the government to consider undertaking the Galgibag-Tolpona stretch of the national highway first for four-laning so that the project of widening the Polem-Patradevi highway is not mired in inordinate delays. Naik also assured that he would provide funds through his MPLAD for the construction of modern bus stands across the state.

KTCL to induct 45 hi-tech buses to connect rural and urban Goa

Panaji, Nov 3 (PTI) The connectivity between rural and urban Goa is headed for a change next month as the state-owned Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited has decided to link the cities with remote areas through 105 new routes by inducting 45 hi-tech buses in its fleet. KTCL Managing Director Venancio Furtado said the Corporation will induct the new buses in its fleet of 400-odd vehicles that will help serve these virgin routes. The Corporation, which is named after a former dynasty that ruled Goa, was conceived in 1980 to connect rural Goa to urban spots. Their buses ply to remotest of the villages in the state which are often ignored by private bus operators. Furtado said all the 105 new routes will connect villages to cities and the Corporation has decided to introduce direct buses shuttling passengers from their village to towns like Panaji, Ponda, Mapusa, Vasco and Margao. The government has already sanctioned Rs 7 crore for procuring new fleet, which will be inducted by month-end. The spacious Tata Marcopolo buses, which are low floored, will be pressed on these routes. Furtado said 45 new buses would be bought, of which five will be airconditioned and will run on inter-state routes. The Corporation which is suffering losses have been suggested short and long term strategies by the state government to cover up the loss. Furtado said that 25 per cent increase in the fleet capacity was one such move proposed by the government. He said the management is also infusing discipline in the staff by conducting periodical checks and also incentives are given to good performers. PTI RPS DK
