Along with Newton Gems...
eyetoeye September 26th, 2004, 11:09 AM Nah... they're proportionally much thinner than dominos, i should think. Lol. Haiz... was just at Novena yesterday reliving some lost memories......
huaiwei September 26th, 2004, 12:20 PM Hahahaa......lets predict which one will last longer in the test of time! :D
redstone September 27th, 2004, 01:19 PM Moulmein's giant sunshade up there looks dangerous! :D
:jk:
baqthier September 28th, 2004, 08:45 AM oooo! Thanks Raff for those closeups! :master: How did you get those Moulmein shots? You guys last time said so hard to access the area last time what? I hope you didn't get bruises/scratches and stuffs for these :D
RafflesCity September 28th, 2004, 01:57 PM oooo! Thanks Raff for those closeups! :master: How did you get those Moulmein shots? You guys last time said so hard to access the area last time what? I hope you didn't get bruises/scratches and stuffs for these :D
:D
Well, immediately in front of the building is a busy road so its a little hard, plus quite a lot of trees too. However I did go all the way to the street across it where there were some old houses and I almost got attacked by a dog that was leashed up! Nevertheless....
anyway credit card or dominoes, just love their wafer-thin profile!
baqthier September 28th, 2004, 02:12 PM wakao...those wonderful shots did explain those obstacles! :D
RafflesCity September 28th, 2004, 02:15 PM heheh!
are u going to try drawing this building? But still not too sure about it height. I think its 100m?
baqthier September 28th, 2004, 02:57 PM hehe..still u/c! BTW, I think it's more than 100m. Isn't it a bit much taller than Novena Square or that cylindrical buidling with that high antenna? ;)
redstone September 28th, 2004, 03:24 PM Still not enough back views of it.
heirloom September 28th, 2004, 04:11 PM huuh i only noticed this thread today.. i actually posted two of the pictures on my livejournal, not knowing its from here. thanks for the pics anyway!
baqthier September 28th, 2004, 04:40 PM Lincoln Modern does remind me of a university in Sarawak :D

heirloom September 28th, 2004, 04:42 PM that looks quite pleasant... i hope the new low cost terminal looks something like that!
eyetoeye September 29th, 2004, 10:06 AM anyway credit card or dominoes, just love their wafer-thin profile!

Zooming to the top....
baqthier December 29th, 2004, 02:37 PM Beautiful! BTW, did you say your camera was KM XG? The optical zoom is only 3 times but how come you get the 2nd pic zoomed greatly?
redstone December 29th, 2004, 02:38 PM Thanks! :D
With digital zoom! :D
baqthier December 29th, 2004, 02:41 PM Your digital zoom doesn't suck! Planning to get a new small pockt size one! Maybe same like yours!
redstone December 29th, 2004, 02:43 PM I have to put it on the internal railing...
If not, digital zoom to this magnitude would mean blurred pictures.
For many times digital zoom, camera has to be very stable... ;)
RafflesCity December 29th, 2004, 05:45 PM My goodness....
you look close enough to touch it!
The facade looks kinda translucent in the 2nd pic..very unique
residents there get such great views of the skyline

SkylineTurbo January 11th, 2005, 10:08 AM This looks nice...

Wheras this looks a little weird, like an out of proportion commieblock (no offence to anyone)...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/redstone/1moulmein.jpg
RafflesCity January 11th, 2005, 10:26 AM no lah! it wasnt taken at the hospital :O
@blackadder
hmm..the closeup of the back is quite special though, definitely unlike a commieblock..will post some closeups of the back
@heirloom
It's in the showflat on the 6th floor.
heres a pic of the lap pool

SkylineTurbo January 11th, 2005, 10:29 AM Argh, ok thank you :).
Maybe it's just the light differences or something. :)
RafflesCity January 11th, 2005, 10:33 AM Maybe it's just the light differences or something. :)
yah..the skin of the back looks translucent..not sure what material they used for it :)
heirloom January 11th, 2005, 10:34 AM omg the showroom still on!!!?
RafflesCity January 11th, 2005, 10:50 AM yes definitely
the corner showroom for the down-loft was quite impressive, the bathroom is also very nice
heirloom January 11th, 2005, 11:39 AM i still remember the showflat from two years ago... let me try describing..
toilet fixtures are from duravit by philippe starck
the light and power switches are not the common small plastic ones but large flat metal ones
black granite for floor in kitchen and toilets.
and perhaps kitchen counters.
the globe chair was used somewhere... as was the egg chair. uhm most striking would be the double height living room.
RafflesCity January 11th, 2005, 11:40 AM and the automatic blinds
i like the down loft cos it feels cozy..like going into your private cellar..the toilet fixtures and stuff felt sturdy and secure, like an expensive hotel
heirloom January 11th, 2005, 11:45 AM the down loft is a novel concept but i dont want to step into the house walk all the way down to the livign room and walk all the way up again if i want to go out immediately!
i remember the property agent said something about being able to control the airconditioning with your cellphone?
heirloom January 11th, 2005, 11:52 AM ok.. another example.. that little space at the entrance can be a study area or extra emergency bedroom.
case 1: bedroom
i really wouldnt want to open the main door and step into a bedroom!! if that's my bedroom, i'd have to run up and down the stairs to go to the toilet... not very good..
case 2: study
by the time you get up there you're too tired to study.
RafflesCity February 23rd, 2005, 10:02 AM never noticed that staircase at the top before, might be the penthouse unit

hyacinthus February 23rd, 2005, 10:17 AM Gosh! I wouldn't dare to use that staircase... :P
RafflesCity February 23rd, 2005, 10:24 AM That staircase is nothing...wait till you stand on those that go all the way down.... :dizzy: My palms had never sweated so fast before

RafflesCity February 23rd, 2005, 10:48 AM but the penthouse seems so exclusive
huaiwei February 23rd, 2005, 10:53 AM Yeah...but you need an umbrella to move up one floor! :D

baqthier April 1st, 2005, 01:05 PM ^ but you still haven't got any closer to it also leh. I need some assurance one can get closer to that forbidden shrine :D
RafflesCity April 1st, 2005, 01:09 PM I've got as close as the guardroom, which is located at the 'back' of the building :D
Forbidden shrine?
baqthier April 1st, 2005, 01:20 PM hehe..just a bit over when describing it :D
Anyway, used to mistaken it with Ansley..it was like the 2nd time I saw it..I said how come so nice already?..then discovered it's another building - moulmein rise
RafflesCity April 1st, 2005, 01:28 PM ^
I know you have seen it from Swissotel...the first time where were you when you spotted it?
In this pano by Cliff, you can spot the Ansley (white) and Moulmein Rise...dont strain your eyes too hard :D

UOL lifts top Fiabci honours, CapitaLand bags HK-Beam prize
By ARTHUR SIM
UNITED Overseas Land (UOL) and CapitaLand have raised the bar on the standard of property developments by winning international awards.
http://business-times.asia1.com.sg/mnt/media/image/launched/2005-06-09/asuol9-193637.jpg
UOL won the prestigious Fiabci (International Real Estate Federation) Prix d'Excellence award for the residential development, One Moulmein Rise. CapitaLand won a Hongkong Building Environmental Assessment Method Society (HK-Beam) Award for the AIG Tower in Hong Kong, which it co-developed with the Lai Sun Development Company and American International Group.
This is the first time UOL has won the Fiabci Prix d'Excellence. UOL is also the only Asian winner this year and it comes as a vindication of the developer's choice of a young architectural firm, WOHA Architects. One Moulmein Rise was the firm's first condominium project.
UOL group general manager Liam Wee Sin said: 'WOHA impressed us with their works on bungalow projects. They showed impeccable design tastes and we were confident that they would approach our project with the same innovation and sensitivity in design.'
He added that UOL was glad to provide a platform for young architects to showcase their work in the international scene.
Some of One Moulmein Rise's notable architectural features include 'monsoon windows' designed to allow natural ventilation even during a heavy downpour.
Sensitivity towards the environment at the new AIG Towers in Hong Kong also helped CapitaLand and its partners bag the HK-Beam Award for excellence in environmental performance. The state-of-the-art building designed by American architecture firm Skidmore Owings & Merrill had the highest performance rating among 100 buildings assessed.
Environmental sustainability are buzzwords in the construction industry and some of the features at the AIG Tower include solar panels to supplement energy for heating water, lead-free paints, reduction in construction wastes and a recyclable structural steel frame.
For CapitaLand, this award follows Gold Green Mark Awards given by the Building and Construction Authority for Capital Tower and One George Street. It costs more to construct such buildings but a spokesman for CapitaLand said: 'In the long run, the savings in energy costs outweigh the added costs of environmental sustainable design.'

@heirloom
I'm guessing the pic was taken when the building was just completed. New buildings tend to light up all floors before they are occupied.

Formwork April 27th, 2006, 10:07 AM New Formwork Concept for Partly-Constructed
Building Made Up for Lost Time
The tenth floor of a 30-storey apartment block in Singapore had just been completed when construction work was abruptly stopped – the formwork used up to this point had to be dismantled and a new concept designed and implemented within only a few days. The aim was to adapt the PERI formwork (http://www.periasia.com), using only standard components taken from stock, to the existing structure and to make up for lost time in the remaining floors.
In order to save time, individual wall sections and shafts were constructed in advance using VARIO girder wall formwork (http://www.periasia.com/sg/ta/pub/products.cfm/fuseaction/showproduct/product_ID/19/productcategory_ID/9.cfm) on CBC brackets. Because of the complicated geometry of the building and to ensure fast and safe moving of the formwork, independent of each other, climbing took place in up to three different levels.
Placing of the anchors and mounting climbing brackets on the completed wall sections at large heights required great precision and expert handling along with the highest possible level of safety.
VARIO girder formwork was used for the columns and CBC brackets as climbing formwork for the walls as well as PD 8 slab tables (http://www.periasia.com/sg/ta/pub/products.cfm/fuseaction/showproduct/product_ID/50/productcategory_ID/17.cfm) for floor heights of 6.30 m and 3.15 m. This meant that the contractors were now optimally equipped to make up for the lost time.
Contractors: MULTIPLEX Construction Pty. Ltd (Singapore Branch)
Fieldservice: PERI-HORY ASIA Formwork Pte Lte (http://www.periasia.com)
http://www.peri.de/shared/references/img/peri_lincoln_modern_3_lg.jpg
PD 8 slab tables were used for the floor slabs – 3.15 m and 6.30 m high in the typical areas.
http://www.peri.de/shared/references/img/peri_lincoln_modern_2_lg.jpg
The structurally bracing wall sections and cores were constructed in advance with VARIO climbing formwork on CBC brackets.
Pengui April 27th, 2006, 04:43 PM The article doesn't say why the works were abruptly stopped... Why did they decide to change the formwork technique ? Quite weird...
Cliff April 29th, 2006, 11:39 AM OoOOOOO I didn't know that LM is actually two buildings!
FormworkAsia May 4th, 2006, 10:18 AM The decision to change from a competitors' system to PERI's formwork system was not a change of method, as they were previously using climbing brackets too for the project. It is not our policy to expose the reasons for our customers' decisions as well as to comment about our competitors. In this case, it just shows that our customers feel confident, comfortable, and safe when using PERI formwork systems.
Pengui May 4th, 2006, 03:19 PM Oh sorry, I didn't realize that you were from this company or that your post was actually advertisement ^ ^;
Suipalucsea May 5th, 2006, 08:47 AM This development seems to have attracted a certain amount of negative sentiment. Why? It looks great to me, though personally I don't like the Newton area much.
Pengui May 5th, 2006, 05:17 PM I can see a few reasons...
Actually there's one real good thing about this condo: the apartments really look great !
Now for the bad things:
It was very pricey when it was released, a lot of units remained unsold till last year, the price dropped a lot.
There are almost no facilities (a poor-looking lap pool, a carpark, I think that's all). People who put as much money as my rental fee in maintenance every month generally expect more than that I suppose :-)
It is surrounded by a lot of (sometimes bigger) projects blocking big parts of the view. Park Infinia currently under construction is certainly not a good thing for Lincoln Modern if you ask me.
Common corridors look a bit scary and are quite noisy due to the location of aircon compressor units.
The duplex concept is nice and good looking but maybe not so practical.
That's what I can think of.
Suipalucsea May 6th, 2006, 12:28 PM Sorry to reveal my ignorance....but what do you mean by the "duplex concept"?
As for the "almost no facilities" bit....I have noticed that some people feel that having a lot of facilities is sort of uncool....the kind of thing you associate with suburban 99 year leasehold! And after all it's true --- most of those facilities, apart from a pool and a tennis court, are used by almost nobody and are there to make the place look "grand". Not saying that I fully agree with this point of view but it is out there. Certainly the places that have kiddie-friendly facilities [like parc infinia] are bound to be regarded as highly uncool. Who wants to live in a glorified playground? Your other points are well taken.
Pengui May 7th, 2006, 05:11 PM All the apartments in Lincoln Modern have two storeys. For the studio apartments it means that the bedroom + bathroom is at a different level, which is okay. For the larger 3 rooms flats, it's the entrance being at a different level than the rest... Which looks cool... but... hmm... that's it :-)
For the facilities, yeah I suppose it depends if you have a use for them or not, my point was more like "monthly charges are very high and I see no good reason for it".

urbanespaces December 2nd, 2006, 10:43 AM Baqthier's photos are beautiful. Have photos of the interiors of the penthouse in No.1 Moulmein Rise(or at least the private pool area) here:
http://www.urbanespaces.com/penthousewithprivatepool.html
Gorgeous, unobstructed city views.
The terrace in the Lincoln Modern penthouse is made of perforated steel that allows(or forces) you to see all the way down. Rather scary but I'm such a sucker for the high ceilings inside the apartment itself.

RafflesCity September 5th, 2007, 02:43 AM S'pore condo wins major award for architecture

1 Moulmein Rise honoured for its tropic-friendly high-rise design
http://www.straitstimes.com/STI/STIMEDIA/image/20070904/ST_IMAGES_SCAGA.jpg
ARCHITECTS Wong Mun Summ and Richard Hassell have reason to shout Woha.
Their homegrown firm, Woha Architects, received the prestigious Aga Khan Award for Architecture yesterday in Kuala Lumpur for its residential project 1 Moulmein Rise.
This is the first winning project from Singapore.
The award was established by the Aga Khan, spiritual leader of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims, in 1977.
Attention is given to buildings that use local resources and technology in an innovative way and to projects likely to inspire similar efforts elsewhere.
The 28-storey 1 Moulmein Rise for property firm UOL Development, which was completed in 2003, boasts solutions to deal with high-rise living in the tropics.
One example is the use of monsoon windows, which are special horizontal windows in each apartment to let in the breeze but keep out the rain.
Other tropic-friendly features include designing the condominium to have a north-south facing (to avoid direct sunlight) and overhangs to provide shade.
Of the win, which is 13-year-old Woha's top international award to date, Mr Wong said it is meaningful because 'it looks at what the building does for the end-user, rather than just on how the building looks'.
UOL chief operating officer Liam Wee Sin said the award is international recognition for the company's commitment to design excellence in the homes it builds.
The award has a triennial prize fund of US$500,000 (S$760,000), making it the largest architectural prize. The prize money is split among the nine winners this year.
This is not the first time a homegrown company has won such recognition though.
In 2001, Singapore-based architect Kerry Hill won the award for designing The Datai resort in Langkawi.
The awards are handed out every three years. This year, 343 projects were presented for consideration and 27 were reviewed on site by international experts.
The award is governed by a steering committee chaired by the Aga Khan. Members include German architect Omar Akbar, Swiss architect Jacques Herzog and American art historian Glenn Lowry.
The steering committee selects the master jury for each award cycle.
This year's nine winners include the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Ethiopia, a school in Rudrapur, Bangladesh and the University of Technology Petronas in Malaysia.
The award ceremonies have been held in settings selected for their architectural and cultural importance to the Muslim world, such as Istanbul's Topkapi Place in 1983 and the Alhambra in Granada, Spain in 1998.
This year's ceremony was held in Kuala Lumpur's Petronas Twin Towers, a 2004 award-winner.
The awards were handed out by Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi and the Aga Khan.
Of Woha's winning design, Ms Brigitte Shim, an architecture professor from the University of Toronto and a master jury member, said: 'Woha's way of handling the residential units and the site is sophisticated and elegant.'
Asked how they will celebrate, Mr Wong said: 'By working harder.'
Mr Hassell said they do not know exactly how much of the prize money they will get but it will be used to fund research or set up a research grant.
