I was walking on Franklin, around Randolph, sw corner. Looks like this site is getting ready for the 40ish story office tower.

Are you sure? I haven't heard any announcements for an office building there.

Yeah, tearing down the old Merc was such a good idea. That vacant lot is so attractive.....
Thre was no reason to tear down the old Merc, they could have easily built a nice 35-45 story building on the corner parking lot at Randolph and Franklin without destroying a piece of Chicago history.

I saw on emporis.com that they had 32 story office building proposed at Franklin and Randolph.

I saw it on www.emporis.com while I was scrolling through the buildings for Chicago.

Can you be more specific? I haven't heard anything about this; I also happened to be at Giordano's on Randolph last night and strolled across the street to the empty lot... I didn't see any signs of anything, whatsoever, going on.
