Hi LSyd, you dropped in on the Bham UK site so I thought I'd return the favour. I think Bham AL looks pretty cool, and it seems it was a very fast growing city in the last century. Remarkably similar to Brum (our nickname). And do you know what is also amazing? The "random Birmingham pictures" author MK61 on our thread had the same Metropolis avatar image as you too! That is spooky!
We'll have to get a closer link between our cities even though our official sister city is Chicago.

Awesome pics LSyd, I particulary like the street scenes you've managed to capture. On the Birmingham UK threads we tend to end up just taking pics of construction sites and existing buildings. Next time I go out to take some pictures I'll definitely make a point of trying to capture Birmingham at street level with ordinary people going about their everyday business, this should, hopefully show the real side to the city.....along with its canals of course, we always take pics of the canals :)

heh, funny you should mention that...back around 1920 Birmingham was planning on being bigger than Atlanta. then WWII, a horrible mayor who made the city a battleground for the civil rights movement and got a bad reputation, then industry decline and sprawl hurt most american cities and Atlanta made its business recruiting deals...

the great thing is Birmingham's far better preserved historically than Atlanta.

thanks. the nuns were walking by in front of my old apartment (about 200 feet from my current apartment) and i figure they were taking a shortcut to go to the park, coffee shop or visit someone in the neighborhood. there's a nun's house and school nearby.
