Well, what can I say.

The last couple days have been a real blur. First and foremost, I gotta say a thanks to the Victorian public. The amount of congratulations, slap on the backs, and just general well wishing was awesome. Walking around the city saturday night was awesome, shops had filled up their windows with Black, white and teal balloons, Power flags were being hung bron windows and even Police cars were getting around with Power colours attatched.
The day started off with a tram ride from our apartment on St Kilda road to Fed Square, and then on to the G. I haven't been there since the 1993 Preliminary (Adel V Ess - yob?) and I forgot just how an awesome place it is. I did a couple of laps just to soak it all in.
Due to a monumental fuck up through Ticketmaster 7, the 4 of us who went over were sitting in all different seats, I was in section Q17 of the great southern stand, if I looked down and three rows from the front, I could just see my Dad!
The atmosphere was nothing that I could describe, even when both team came out for their initial warm up both supporter groups were trying to out do each other with cheering. Once all the pre game festivities were done and it came down to business time, that's when the old emotions started to work up. I'll be the first to admit, when the boys ran out, with the song blaring and the banner standing, the eyes got a little teary. It was awesome seeing my team running out onto the hallowed turf on the last saturday in september.
Once the game started, well after Dimmers and Carry's box on with Acnemanis and Johnson finished, it was business as usual, except a hell of a lot more nervous! The game ebbed and flowed, we got out to a blinder of a start, the Lions came back in the second quarter, the lead changed 4 times in the third quater, then we broke loose. With Gavs couple goals in the thrid to give us a 17 point lead at three quarter time, I stated to feel confident. By the time Kingsley had kicked his goal, the party was well and truly on!! It is such an awesome feeling having your team, comfortably in front in the final quarter with 6 minutes to go. Everything we touched turned to gold, as for the Lions, it all turned to shit. They couldn't hit targets, they were intimidated out of 50-50 contests (something you NEVER see) and they were slow. As for my game highlight, Byron Pickett making my name sake Pike looking dead set slow. Choppy was awesome!
Once the siren went, I lost it. I was getting hugs from people I'd never met, getting hi fives from Brisbane supporters and just soaking in that Premiership buzz. I managed to get down to the boundary with Dad for the medal and cup presentation. I got hugs and pats on the head from Tredders, Stewie Dew, Josh Mahoney, Shaun Burgoyne, Byron Pickett and Brendon Lade. I also managed to get my hand on the cup when Schofield had it.
So once I got my Weg Premiership poster, we headed off to Punt Rd oval for the after match function, which was awesome. Seeing the boys wound up and showing off the cup is something I won't forget.
Tredders sumed it up when he was asked by MC Barry Curtain if we had got the monkey off our back. "All I know is that the only choking we'll be doing from now on is if this premiership medal gets a little too tight."

So even if you are pissed that we won the flag, or couldn't give a shit, I hope this gave a little insight into what I went though on Saturday. All I can say is that winning a flag is awesome, being there is brilliant, experiencing the whole emotion and day with my Dad was priceless.

Port Adelaide - 2004 AFL Premiers.

Nothing else to say.

Bloody sensational stuff.

It's a good feeling, isn't it. If you're lucky to do it back to back, trust me... it's a surreal experience. You seriously can't remember if you're alive or not.

Just on the Victorian public being nice to you, you must've gone on the day that the whole of Melbourne wasn't on the rag or something. Last time I went to Melb for a footy game, walking around in my crows gear, I had an old lady try and hip and shoulder me in the victoria market, an old man outside flinders street station tell me he was going to cut his throat if collingwood lost, a bunch of blokes on a construction site tapping their tools on the scaffold singing the crows song at us, some 20 something wannabe hero yelling "fucken crows supporters" at us in some street, and my favourite - nicest bloke i'd met in Melbourne, an old carlton man in a suit wishing us well, and telling us if Collingwood won the premiership he was moving to New Zealand :D

Mate, nothing can beat this high I am on at the moment! Apart from my wedding day, saturday was the best day of my life.

As for the Vics, they were great. When we went out to breakfast the next morning, ther was a group of lads who wanted their photos taken with us!

I cannot wait for next year, and I feel we are a real shot for the flag too. As you said in another thread, getting Matty Primus and Josh Francou back, look out!!!

PS, no one thinks I'm going over the top getting a premiership tattoo do they?? Cos I'm getting one!!

Great stuff guys!
Unless you have experenced the atmosphere at the MCG on GF day its hard to describe it and there is nothing like it in the rest of Australia so just imagine when its back to over 100,000 how awesome it will be.

I went to the NRL Grand Final last year and literally cummed in my pants... spine tingling stuff!

Im sure the pinnacle events of all 3 sports [Rugby League, Rugby Union and the Aussie Rules] have equally awesome atmospheres.

Anyways congrats to Port. I caught a bit of it while it was on the tv at the gym.

My first footy match was Hawthorn v Geelong 1989 Grand Final. Hvae no recollection of it at all. Bring back the late 80's :)

Even when the G is half full there is an awesome atmosphere, especially at the cricket. There's one wish I have and that's to see Australia v England in a World Cup Final at the MCG - would be amazing. I was lucky enough to go for Australia v Uruguay in 2002 and it was simply amazing. Spine tingling. Then again for the 2002 Boxing Day Test against the Poms. There are no words to describe a capacity crowd at the G.

im just so glad those brisbane poofs lost....it got so bad akermanis bit a player on the hand when they were wrestling, and martin pike headbutted the Lions CEO when he was tols his time might be up- I guess it is now. Its funny how the Lions cant handle it when they lose....too much ego...even the supporters are like this....

the 1993 Grand Final was between Essendon and Carlton. And the Bombers won!! F*CK YEAH!!!
