View Full Version : Cityfront Center
grzes September 27th, 2004, 09:51 PM I have been on the architecture cruise, and in the pamphlet that I got from it, there is a Cityfront Center project listed. It is stated that master planning was begun in 1985, and that there is ongoing planning by Lohan Associates and Skidmore, Owings and Merril. I was wondering about the status of this project, the info is current as of June 2004. Have there been any renderings yet, or at least available to the public?
geoff_diamond September 28th, 2004, 09:03 AM I think the plan has been mostly absorbed into what is now known as River East. I know of one building that bears the Cityfront moniker - an apartment building called Cityfront Place.
All of the low-rise townhouses that surround Cityfront Place are built in the same style, so, I would assume they are part of the same master plan (whether it be called 'River East' or 'Cityfront Center')

At this present time I don't believe that there are any plans for this particular project.

If ever built, this building would be built just to the south of NBC Tower, with Columbus boardering the building to the east, and the Chicago River to it's south.
oshkeoto September 29th, 2004, 05:47 AM Ooh, I like that. Any chance it'll happen?
geoff_diamond September 29th, 2004, 06:41 AM Oooh... first time I've seen this one. Too bad it's not gonna happen... she's a real beauty! Although, I would hate for the view of NBC from the river to ever be obstructed... it's such a gorgeous building.
edsg25 September 29th, 2004, 02:16 PM Now I'm totally confused. First I was surprised I hadn't head of this project before, this being the first time, so obviously I never saw the pictures.
Add to that, the picture's surroundings look very recent as does the style of architecture, so similiar to buildings coming on line today.
So how can this be "dead" when it looks like it was just born? Were these just spec diagrams from a developer who was going nowhere in the first place or was this actually a legit project. And if legit, why the incredibly short shelf life? an enigma!
edsg25 September 29th, 2004, 02:18 PM May I assume that the Adams Mark Hotel project, due north of the Sheraton is also considered dead? Any plans for that Illinois St. site? That's pretty prime real estate.
Tom in Chicago September 29th, 2004, 07:14 PM Yes. . . you may assume that the Adams Mark hotel is dead. . . these other projects were never "alive" to begin with. . . they're just architectural examples of what can be done with current zoning. . . sort of an artistic "vision". . .
24gotham September 29th, 2004, 08:51 PM WOW! That's the kind of architecture we need in this city! The design is beautiful! I love how it isn't harkening back to "Ye Olde Brick and/or Limestone Tower" with set backs, and classical motif's.
Too bad it didn't get off the ground so to speak.
TPX September 29th, 2004, 11:23 PM if it were to get built, i feel that the face needs some improving, they should do something with the main facade, it kinda looks like a 60's box thats been reclad in some areas. of course, this could replace apparel center any day! ;)
