You guys think Mayor Bloomberg got a shot at being re-elected next year? His approval ratings have risen and he doesn't seem to be the hated Mayor he once was. Would you vote for him?

I don't know why he wouldn't have a shot--he's done a decent job. Granted I don't live there, but I don't know of any pressing issues in NYC at the moment...and I certainly enjoyed my trip in May :-P

But then agin "think Bloomberg got a shot?" Maybe there is a pressing issue in NYC public schools LOL

When you ban smoking in the city, you pay. He will lose. I think he was sort of riding the coattails of the great atmosphere that Guliani set for the city. By then crime is rising, and you have all these stupid laws that Bloomberg put in place.

I hate that guy but he's been doing some good things.
I like his policies on ending of social promotions at school for 3rd graders. I do like that he's pro-choice, anti-death penalty, anti-gun, and his smoking ban. I do like his tower too ;)
but then I don't like how the NYPD is handling NYC, his ticket blitz, and most of all I don't like what they're doing with 9/11 and the reps.
Over all, I still hate him though

Do New Yorkers preceive any difference between the way the city appears to be working in the Bloomberg years, as compared to the Guiliani years?

And do these perceptions deal with the whole city or Manhattan?

References asside to 9-11 and strictly based on administrations: is this the same NYC today?

to me it's the same, it's just politicians that try to make it look otherwise.
life in NYC goes on, but Bush and the NYPD and their code Orange just keeps going Terror terror, blah blah
But I'm sure there are a majority of people who disagree with me

The smoking ban was the worse think that he could have done. When you go to a bar, you want to relax, a take up a smoke with your drink. I think that maybe he should have banned it in restaurants, but not in bars. Even in restaurants, there aren't to many of them with outdoor patios where you can go out and smoke. And there are a LOT of smokers. They just loiter out in the sidewalks whiche people tend to hate. Especially those just walking by.

that's me! :D
I hate those restaurants with tables out and people in front, I'm usually busy and walk pretty fast, and I hate people in my way. It might be weird, but I do live in NYC ;)

The worst is in the subway when you're hurrying to catch the uptown train and you're going down the stairs toward the platform but the people in front of you are like walking in slow motion and cause you to miss the train.

That's pretty much the worst "I hate people in my way" situation I'd say.

He could be doing more overall. Although I feel he's been doing a relatively good job in maintaining the city (keeping crime down and the streets relatively clean) considering how much the city has suffered the past 3 years.

Bumping this one up, his most recent approval ratings had him at 61%, the highest he's ever had as Mayor of the city. His chances of getting re-elected are looking better and better.

Interesting - I don't really have a stance on Bloomberg (don't like him or hate him), so I'm pretty much neutral.

:dunno:

I had a good impression of him when he was promoting NY for the Olympics 2012. He made a great speech. Other than that I hardly know this guy. Hillary Clinton was marvellous as well.

Well I used to have a problem with him, not I'm back to neutral.
I have to say his tower helped a lot ;)

Unfortuantely, it doesn't really matter what I have to say about Bloomberg, b/c I don't live in NYC hence I won't be voting in that election. :(

I don't live in NYC and I am not a Republican, but I don't know of any other candidate running against him that could have guided the city better after 9/11
I'd vote for him, if I could.

he's got a shot. he's pretty much free of the barrage of criticisms against the rebuilding officials for their incompetence in getting the rebuilding process to move forward.

but if he's reelected, i won't care too much (i don't mind RINOs), as long as the same thing does not happen to pataki.

Bloomberg's Approval Rating Continues To Soar

July 19, 2005

Mayor Michael Bloomberg's approval rating continues to rise as he increases his lead over his Democratic challengers.

According to a new Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday, the mayor's approval rating among New York City voters now stands at 60 percent – his highest approval rating since shortly after his election four years ago.

The poll finds that even 58 percent of Democrats approve of the mayor's performance.

The director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Center says Bloomberg's support among Democrats and independents is so strong that the mayor could win re-election even if all the Republican voters in the city stayed home on Election Day.

In a head-to-head match-up, the poll finds the mayor with a 52 to 36 percent lead over his closest challenger, Fernando Ferrer.

Among Democratic primary voters, Ferrer has 33 percent of support. The others are in a pack that's within the margin of error on the poll: Virginia Fields has a 16 percent lead; Gifford Miller has gained a few points and is now at 15 percent; while Anthony Wiener's numbers remain unchanged at 11 percent.

Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,300 registered voters in the city last week.
