That humongous structure which is coming up on MG raod is finally shaping into a mega Mall,which also boasts of 4 screen satyam multiplex and many branded shops.Whole of Mysore is looking forward to its opening.

Radisson hotel is coming up in the same complex and plays a perfect host to visitors given its fabulous location,where it is nestled between race course and golf course.Moreover it lies at the foot hills offering spectacular views.

Prestige to set up more 'Forum' malls

Hrithik Kiran Bagade, Bangalore, May 19, DHNS:

The retail infrastructure arm of Prestige Group, on Wednesday, said that it is eyeing expansion of its mid to upper-mid market shopping centre concept ''Forum'', by setting up Forums in Hyderabad, Mangalore, Mysore and Kochi.

It is also constructing another Forum mall in Bangalore and one in Chennai, which will come up in early 2012. Speaking to Deccan Herald, Prestige Group CEO (Retail) S Raghunandhan said that the Forum concept is at the core of Prestige Retail’s business and the company is constantly aiming at expansions and improvements. Raghunandhan also explained about the unique value proposition that Prestige has conceptualised by establishing shopping centres positioned as “Value Malls” in a bid to provide greater value-for-money shopping to consumers.

Presently, the company has a single Forum Value Mall at Whitefield in the city, set up in 2009, under a joint venture between Prestige Group and Singapore-based CapitaL and Retail Limited.

The value concept offers premium outlet shopping, with more emphasis on greater value for money. Like any other conventional mall, it offers big brands, food courts and a multiplex, but all these offer products and services at a more moderate rate to consumers.

Terming it as a community shopping experience, Raghunandhan said, “Whitefield was chosen for the mall considering its proximity to the IT hub, prevalance of exclusive gated communities and a sizeable expat community residing there, along with favourable cost of real estate.”

He added that the mall has more than 100 brands’ outlets, with a large number of them being factory outlets too. According to him though the mall concept in india is at a nascent stage, organised retailing will eventually grow.

Mall, multiplex was to be built at Makkaji Chowk

‘It is in violation of Comprehensive Development Plan'

Bangalore: The Karnataka High Court on Monday restrained the authorities from constructing a commercial complex, including mall and multiplex, at Makkaji Chowk locality of Mysore.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice J.S. Khehar and Justice H.G. Ramesh passed the order on a public interest litigation petition, contending that the constructions were in violation of the Comprehensive Development Plan of Mysore.

The Mysore City Corporation had permitted Maveric Holdings and Investments to put up the structure. It was contended that the permitted height of the complex is about 10.5 m, as against the 7 m permitted in that locality.

Yes, EasyDay opened almost a month ago. Its just another hypermarket like big bazaar.

Yes, the project was officially dropped more than 3 years ago. The developer ran into some financial trouble i guess.

Seems Pizza Hut is there in Vani Vilas Mohalla, which is same company yum restaurants as KFC. With new malls kfc and mcd will come for sure.

Actually I have personal experience, these kfc & all are qualified, standard thieves :sly:... nothing else... I live in kuvempunagar here, & like most other people, I love the food in Urban Legacy, Beegara Oota etc over here. today Mysur has vast no. of eateries... I dont think kfc will have good clientele in Mysur. well in bengalur, the story is different from Mysur.

Mysore mall will be opening on 30th of this month and Drc cinemas on 26th of this month dont have physical proof but the DRC cinemas manager has invited some of the theater owners on that day for the opening function. :banana: :banana: :banana: :banana: :banana: :banana: :banana: :banana:

PVR cinema's opening is expected in Dec 2011 in Garuda mall.

i dont have any idea about what shops are coming up one of my friend is a theater owner so he has got a invitee for the DRC opening itseems so i know abt DRC and DRC cinemas is owned by shantala theater owner itseems.
and mall of mysore is getting satyam multiplex its opening on 30th and DRC on 26th as i said earlier and i dono from when its starting operations as far as i heard jogiayya was about to screen in DRC but they dint got permission itseems so DRC not started yet.

It would soon have a multiplex with four screens. More, another supermarket chain, also has a sizeable presence in the city, while Food Bazar is operating on Devaraja Urs road.

When is Habitat Mall at Jayalakshmi Puram starting? Though Easy Day has opened up 2 months back?, there is no trace of other part of the mall commencing any day soon.

Today i saw in 2papers for one of the movie they have given under listings Woodlands & BM habitat multilex. has it opened.

DRC cinemas will be opening tomo at BM Habitat Mall tomorrow. Today Puja was performed, and it will be opening for screening tomo. Even Though the multiplex was ready 3months back it was not opened due to the issue of Licence. Now as they have obtained the licence they are opening tomo and today a small pooja was performed. The mall is still unfinished so the entry will be mostly through lift only. DRC will be first multiplex to open in Mysore and second will be satyam.

IN BLACK & WHITE: MYSORE MULTIPLEX-ED

Mysore has always been a city at peace with itself. A city happy being in its perpetual state of laid-back royalty. But in the past five years, things have started to change. People have started migrating, real estate has boomed, retail stores have spilt over and jewellery stores, well there are so many that one is reminded of the stories of the Vijayanagar empire where they say gems were sold on the streets.

Now, if people want to spend money, there are avenues to do so, but if they want to spend time with their loved ones there has always been one place missing. A place that would officially put us in the “city category” by modern consumerist standards — a multiplex.

“Mysore does not have a multiplex,” people complained. Young couples and families would rush to Bangalore to catch a new English movie or a 3D movie, which the children love. But all that will change, thanks to the first multiplex which opened its door this morning at B.M. Habitat Mall, next to B.M. Hospital.

I was privileged enough to get an invitation for a preview at the new multiplex last week. The movie they screened for us was the new hit Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Though I had watched the movie before I went to see the new multiplex instead. I was interested to see how comfortable the seats were; how the audio visual quality was and how it compares to the multiplexes in other bigger cities.

But of course I was distracted from being a “multiplex critique” by the audiences’ awkward giggles as Hrithik Roshan gave a thorough tonsil examination to Katrina Kaif. Of course, Hrithik’s double thumb too distracted me a couple of times, but then no critique needs a keen eye when the audience seem genuinely glad and comfortable.

Personally I am very excited about the multiplex. More importantly it is the cup holder in the multiplex’s cinema halls that has me smiling. Now I don't have to be a human cup holder and food tray because every time I go for a movie in Mysore with my wife, I end up holding her cool drink in one hand and her popcorn in the other. She enjoys the movie and I feel abused.

Also I don't have to be an expert at precariously bending down and finding the perfect location to place the empty cool drink bottle under my seat. Thanks to the cup holders now I won’t be used as a serving tray and will finally be counted as audience.

But over all, the four cinema halls are very good; one screen even plays 3D movies. The seats are comfortable and the sound is very good.

The lobby is tastefully done up with good looking food counter. The multiplex can be accessed by escalators and stairs from within the Mall and lift from the basement parking lot. Very convenient indeed, but unfortunately most people had parked their vehicles on the road outside creating traffic congestion in spite of the ample parking space inside the Habitat Mall.

DRC Cinemas, which is managing the multiplex, is a partnership between two old families of Mysore — the Padakis and Murthys. The former has a history in running movie theatres and the latter in running hospitals. The Padakis have been running the famous Shantala Theatre for generations and now have ventured into multiplex. The other partners are Dr. Harsha Murthy and Pramod Murthy, sons of Mysore's famous doctor Dr. C. B. Murthy, Proprietor of B.M. Hospital. Dr. Harsha Murthy seemed comfortable juggling between an operation theatre and a movie theatre.

The DRC Cinemas multiplex venture has gone through its ups and downs. Initially, the famous multiplex management company PVR (Priya Village Roadshow) wanted to set up the cinemas. Then it was the Reliance-owned Adlabs, who too failed to get the multiplex running. So finally the owners of the Habitat Mall, the Murthys and the owners of Shantala Theatre came together to bring this multiplex to life on their own. Now after a year, the four-screen multiplex with a seating for 960 people has been thrown open.

For many of us old Mysoreans this opening of multiplex is a sure sign of change. It is also a chance for many of us who don't have the time or inclination to make trips to Bangalore to watch movies and enjoy them like it was meant to be, in Mysore itself.

Mysore of course has a few theatres that are good, with parking space and decent audio visual effect, such as Sangam, Gayathri and Lido. But the advantage of the multiplex is the overall experience. There is shopping (there is an Easy Day Mall right underneath) plus the advantage to choose from an array of movies to watch at one location, a new experience for us Mysoreans.

This experience is only expected to be enhanced soon considering that there is another multiplex opening shortly on the other side of town near the Golf Club at the Mall of Mysore. At this Mall, not only can one enjoy some retail therapy but also visit the Radisson Hotel (which is attached), visit the food court and various other stores before heading up to experience a 4-screen multiplex designed and managed by the big multiplex company from Chennai — Satyam Cinemas.

While at last we have a multiplex, it is interesting to note that it is by Mysoreans for Mysoreans. The final world on DRC Multiplex — Rs. 100 for Kannada on weekdays and Rs. 120 on weekends. For English, Hindi and other regional languages its Rs. 150 may be a bit steep for Mysore but it's worth it. If you enjoy the whole experience of movie watching — from hassle-free parking to high audio and video quality, from clean bathrooms to multiple movie options. Another laudable aspect of this multiplex is that it is completely handicap-friendly.

Looks like weekends just got 'reel' good for Mysoreans.

DRC cinemas even though screens paramathma they have cancelled online booking for first 4days from thursday to sun. Wat is meaning of multiplex which stops online booking for star movies and we have to go n stand in queue to buy tickets instead of booking at a click. Waiting for satyam..................

The company has now 34 'Mothercare' stores, with 6 stores on standalone and 28 stores on shop in shop basis.
Shoppers Stop Ltd has said that the company has opened one "Shoppers Stop" store at Mysore. With the opening of this store, the company has now 44 "Shoppers Stop" stores (including two airport stores) under its operation.

Further the company has informed that, the company has opened one Mothercare store as 'Shop in Shop' store within Shoppers Stop, Mysore. With the opening of this store, the company has now 34 'Mothercare' stores, with 6 stores on standalone and 28 stores on shop in shop basis.

CapitaMalls keen to give start-ups a leg up

Singapore-headquartered mall developer CapitaMalls will help encourage entrepreneurship in India.

The company, which is investing nearly 60 million Singapore dollars to set up nine malls in the country (seven are under construction, two have been completed), will help retailers come up with concept stores in its malls across the country. “We are working with retailers and entrepreneurs for setting up concept stores inside the malls. These will be more than your regular stores,” Mr Lim Beng Chee, CEO, CapitaMalls Asia, said here on Wednesday.

The authorities are trying out a similar concept at their Bangalore mall.

The company has promoted successful start-ups in Singapore such as Awfully Chocolate in its malls through easier rent payment schemes. It intends to replicate the success story with Indian entrepreneurs.

“In India, small retailers are not always ready to spread out. However, we are ready to encourage them. The smaller players are yet to make it big,” Mr Kevin Cee, Country Head India, told Business Line.

CapitaMalls has over 90 projects across Asia. In India it has two completed projects — in Udaipur (Rajasthan) and Bangalore. It has unfinished projects in Kochi, Jalandhar, Mangalore, Hyderabad, Mysore and Nagpur, among others. The company is also scouting for locations at other cities.

As part of this transformation, very recently our city’s first mall — Mall of Mysore — opened its doors to Mysoreans. The mall has another ‘first’ to its credit by housing Shoppers Stop's very first outlet here.

Salil Nair, Customer Care Associate and Chief Operating Officer of Shoppers Stop (SS), was in city recently to train the staff and oversee the functioning of the outlet. Speaking to Star of Mysore he said, "People of Mysore and surrounding areas like Virajpet and Madikeri preferred to shop at Bangalore. From our survey, we learnt that at least 35,000 customers would come from these regions to shop there. Hence, we felt that the city was ready and opened our store here."

When asked why SS took so many years to open an outlet in Mysore given the large number of customers they have from the city, he said "There are three reasons for this: Firstly, we were not mentally prepared to come to a Tier-II city. We were not able to get an assortment suitable for this city. Secondly, since the past few years, people preferred to travel to Bangalore considering the variety available there. It is like ‘people of Pune always prefer shopping in Mumbai.’ The other reason was property. We wanted a good location and space to provide the best collection for our customers."

"This being the first mall in Mysore has an added advantage for us. The mall, with a food court, shopping facility and multiplex, provides complete shoptainment to the customers. Even though you will not come in to purchase at SS every month, you will visit the mall regularly and hence will also drop into SS. The mall and SS will complement and support each other. Hence, here 1 plus 1 equals not two but three," he said.

"Till now Mysoreans would prefer Devaraja Urs Road for all their shopping. With the opening of this mall, instead of you going to 10 shops on that stretch, you can shop for the same in one vertical. Plus it is like a complete outing for the family. You also don’t have to worry about parking space here," he added.

When asked if the shop had anything special to offer to the people of Mysore, Salil said "We have what Mysore wants. For example, in the women’s section, we have more of semi-formal, casual and home wear as compared to the Bangalore outlet where there is more formals and office wear. Secondly, the entry price is better and attractive. But the range and brands will be the same as in our other Metropolitan outlets. We will also be upgrading the store with all the higher-end brands in a year’s time."

Speaking about the response they have received here he said, "People of Mysore already know about mall culture since they have experienced it in Bangalore and other cities.

However, their yearning for a mall nearer to their home town was evident. The response we got in Bangalore around 17 years back was much lower compared to what we have seen in the past one week here. Mysoreans know well about retailing and are marching ahead at a very fast pace."

Replying to a query about the schemes at SS, he said "We have a loyalty club — First Citizen’s Club — the largest in retailing society. We have more than 27,000 customers who have been loyal to SS over the years and will be starting enrolment here very soon. Also we will launch more customer-connect programmes in the days to come. Apart from that we have a Think Green campaign. SS has a brand supporting it and a part of our collection will go into planting trees, reforestation and educating people about it. We will implement it here may be in the next six months. However, we in SS do not entertain the concept of discount. We want our customers to go through the experience of shopping, the ambience, environment and range rather than coming just because of a discount offer."

This is located in Bannimantap, Next to fire brigade near JSS Medical and Pharmacy colleges.. It is a good location for locating a retail business..The huge chunk of high income households in this area always used to go to Devaraja Urs Road for everything..Good to see a supermarket coming up here..
There was a problem with land acquisition in this area because of fertile land beyond this area..Mandya district border is only 2km from here.. I'm guessing about the land acquisition part..Not sure about that..

The film exhibition industry in Mysore has been adopting changing technologies in the realm, to facilitate changing taste of cine lovers and the recent addition is that of multi-screens, writes Sreekantswamy B

From theatres screening movies in 16 mm to the recent high-tech multiplex, the city of tourist attractions has indeed come a long way.

A tier-II city having close connectivity with neighbouring Bangalore city, Mysore has been the next to adopt technology after the State capital.

However, in the case of multiplex it was a bit late with Bangalore and Mangalore having already adapted the technology.

Recalls Shantala theatre manager Devaraj, Krishna talkies at Gandhi Square that was wound up decades ago was the first movie hall city had in 40’s.

The film industry had just taken wings, from silent to talkie movies and Krishna enjoys the credit of screening both. The screens then were of 16 mm width, a facility to boast then.

The mono pictures (reel) were in use, where the operator had to manually screen the movie. In case of sound, he had to operate the buttons, and it was a risky calling for equal concentration and expertise in the realm.

The films (reel) made of polyester were also delicate in nature and any ignorance would reduce it to ashes. A spark was enough. It was also a movable property as it had silver contents. The used reels then would fetch good amount.

Unlike nowadays, there were only three shows, and the morning shows depended on the new releases and the main star cast like biggies- Dr Rajkumar, M G Ramachandran and others.

The movies were screened in morning show for the benefit of die-hard fans of the stars. All it cost for a seat in balcony was Rs 1.10 and 80 paisa for second class, also not so affordable amount then.

Demand for Gandhi class!
You will be surprised to know, Gandhi class (front rows) was the most preferred choice then. Now, most of the theatres have removed the very class (row) of seats, owing to increasing inferiority complex among the younger generation. A layman earning a hundred or two per day too doesn’t mind to shell out extra bucks for balcony.

Matinee idol makes inroads
Till Rajkumar became a household name, Tamil films had created a niche audience for itself and the exhibitors too preferred the same. There were dedicated theatres for non-Kannada films and it was Rajkumar again who made inroads into non-Kannada language films, succeeding in wooing good number of audience.

Krishna theatre was closely followed by Chamundeshwari, Ganesha, Gayatri, Rajkamal, Padma among others. Lido, Sangam, Sterling, Shantala, Saraswati belong to 70’s.
The morning show then was at 11 am, matinee at 2.30 pm, first show at 6.15 pm and second at 9.30 pm against 1.30 pm, 4.30 pm and 7.30 pm now. What varies is the timing of morning show now and also regular shows in two or three theatres.

Sound emitting technology too underwent changes- stereo to DTS. Now the situation is such that, there is more sharpness in sound and light, giving a real experience to the audience.

After 16 mm screen, came 35 mm and now cinemascope. The latest, though it happened five to six years ago is the platter- where the reels roll from one plate to another without any manual interference. Devaraj claimed that Shantala is the only theatre to be equipped with it.

In case of multiplex- DRC cinemas in Jayalakshmipuram, it is a revolution of sort in the film exhibition industry. Apart from regular, it also has hi-tech 3D screening facility. As is the facility, the ticket costs Rs 100 odd, but a treat to watch the movie, for cine lovers.

Grim picture
However, what remains now is the grim picture. Those were the days when the city alone had close to 30 theatres, all having good takers.

Owing to changing taste of the people and also the privilege of watching movies at home on home theatre, the numbers dwindled standing at 20 here. It is expected to be bleak in future too, with few more multi-screens coming up under one roof.

The initial designs of this mall were fantastic,I remember star of mysore published its render long back,even before I joined SSC I.Due to height restrictions imposed by the local authorities the builder had to revise the designs.

How many floors were there in original proposal ?

‘It is in violation of Comprehensive Development Plan'

Bangalore: The Karnataka High Court on Monday restrained the authorities from constructing a commercial complex, including mall and multiplex, at Makkaji Chowk locality of Mysore.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice J.S. Khehar and Justice H.G. Ramesh passed the order on a public interest litigation petition, contending that the constructions were in violation of the Comprehensive Development Plan of Mysore.

The Mysore City Corporation had permitted Maveric Holdings and Investments to put up the structure. It was contended that the permitted height of the complex is about 10.5 m, as against the 7 m permitted in that locality.
