Welcome to the edo era town of Izushi. Most of the buildings date back to Japan's goldern age when Kyoto was the capital and largest city in the 1600s.The town is located near the Japan sea about 250km north of Osaka.Very small and not important in its heyday, but an important destination in the local area today as most of its buildings still remain.A little Kyoto.

Here is the map

The well known clock tower of Izushi.Built in the Meji era(1860s) to show off Japan's entry into the modern age.

It was a Monday.Nice and quite.Just a few tourists walking around. To left,if you are wondering,is an ice cream shop. The area is a big prodcuer of dairy products.

A typical residential street in the town.

Cars squeezing their way around the local streets

The local cowboy inviting people into his restaurant.I think I might go in and take a look.

What do we have here.Nice set up!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Nickkyobashi/DSCN6472.jpg

Its actually a soba(brown noodles) restaurant.Very tradional Japanese food. One serving please....Thanks.If you are wondering how to eat it.You crack the raw egg,put it into the sauce and then dip the noodles in it and eat.Good stuff.

Just a few people in the place.Monday is a great day to tour alot of Japan's small towns. The whole country is working to keep the economy moving!!!!!! producing those Toyota's,Playstations and Suzuki Skywaves

Just outside the restaurant.

The local flower shop

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Nickkyobashi/DSCN6483.jpg

I love Edo(1600 to 1860) architecture. The white plaster and roof style

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Nickkyobashi/DSCN6493.jpg

Typical Edo street

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Nickkyobashi/DSCN6506.jpg

More Edo stuff. The gateway to another temple

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Nickkyobashi/DSCN6511.jpg

Wow! Very Edo.A great example of an Edo house.Izushi is great for this kind of building style

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Nickkyobashi/DSCN6508.jpg

Time to take a break.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Nickkyobashi/DSCN6519.jpg

Unfortunately the castle was destoyed under the one Nation one Castle law when the Japan entered the industrial age in the 1860s.Many survived though. But not this one.Only the gates remain

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Nickkyobashi/DSCN6518.jpg

Walking up to the castle gate along its walls

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Nickkyobashi/DSCN6580.jpg

Looking down onto Izushi from the Castle gates

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Nickkyobashi/DSCN6566.jpg

And beyond......What a country!!!!! Japan is so green!!!!!!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Nickkyobashi/DSCN6522.jpg

A buddist shrine was built to replace the orginal Castle.Up I go...up the pathway.Watch your step!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Nickkyobashi/DSCN6548.jpg

Mmmmmm.Nice stream

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Nickkyobashi/DSCN6569.jpg

Ahhhh.Time to wash my hands before entering the shrine area

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Nickkyobashi/DSCN6531.jpg

The light wasnt good near the shrine. Here is a shot taken from a distance.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Nickkyobashi/DSCN6524.jpg

Time to head back down

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Nickkyobashi/DSCN6528.jpg

A few sleepy touristy shops near the castle gate

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Nickkyobashi/DSCN6591.jpg

And a women enjoying her ice cream

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Nickkyobashi/DSCN6587.jpg

Ok.Time to head home on a combination of country roads and high speed expressways. On the way up i managed to take this beautiful machine at 165km/h though a 7 km tunnel on the expressway on the way up from Osaka.
Not something I like to do.I was just curious how fast it would go.I figured a tunnel was the safest place to try.

Mmmmmm.Skywave.I will go where you take me

Wow, very nice!
I love the traditional style architecture.

You should make a webpage with all of your previous tours incorporated together. :)

All this talk of scooters reminds me of an old joke:

Q: What's the difference between a fat lass and a scooter?
A: They're both fun to ride but you wouldn't want your mates to see you with one!

Obviously I think this joke's referring to poxy little scooters and not the beasts you guys are into, and of course I would hate to bring potentially sexist material to this site...but it still makes me chuckle.
