Hi
Udaipur is a city of 350,000 in southern Rajasthan state, India,
situated around two large, glistening lakes with the beguiling old
city nestled on the edge of the larger Lake Pichola. It is
surrounded by smaller lakes with buildings built directly onto the
shore, on the numerous islands, and even on artificial islands.
It was the ancient capital of the Mewar Kingdom and is known
as the Jewel of Mewar. Much of the current city of Udaipur was
built in 1559 ACE by Maharana Udai Singh. The legend goes that
Maharana Udai Singh came upon a hermit while hunting. He blessed
the King and asked him to build a palace right there and it would be
well protected, and Udaipur was thus established.
Udaipur became a powerful Rajput state under British rule, and
became known by the British, thanks to Kipling, as "the Venice of
the East", on account of its lakes, canals, architecture and beauty.
It is a popular tourist town and is the origin of an entire style of
Rajasthani "desert" architecture. Most of the numerous Rajput-

Udaipur also known as the City of Lakes, is a city, a Municipal Council and the administrative headquarters of the Udaipur district in the state of Rajasthan in western India.
It is located 403 kilometres (250 mi) southwest of the state capital, Jaipur. Udaipur was the historic capital of the former kingdom of Mewar founded in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II.
Legend has it that Maharana Udai Singh II came upon a hermit while hunting in the foothills of the Aravalli Range. The hermit blessed the king and asked him to build a palace on the spot, assuring him it would be well protected. Udai Singh II consequently established a residence on the site. In 1568 the Mughal emperor Akbar captured the fort of Chittor, and Udai Singh moved the capital to the site of his residence, which became the city of Udaipur.

उदयपुर राजस्थान प्रान्त का एक शहर है। इसे झीलों की नगरी के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। इस शहर की स्थापना १५५९ में महाराणा उदयसिंह द्वितीय के द्वारा की गयी थी जब १५६८ में मुग़ल बादशाह अकबर ने मेवाड़ की तत्कालीन राजधानी: चित्तौड़ पर हमला किया था। उदयपुर जयपुर से २५० किलोमीटर की दूरी पर स्थित है व स्वंतन्त्रता से पहले यह मेवाड़ की राजधानी थी।
उदयपुर के स्थापना के बारे यह मान्यता है की यहाँ, अरावली पर्वतमाला के तलहटी में, महाराणा उदयसिंह जी द्वितीय को एक ऋषि मिले जिन्होंने महाराणा जी को इस जगह पर एक शहर बनाने की सलाह दी, और कहा की यहाँ जगह बहुत ही सुरक्षित साबित होगी।
आधुनिक उदयपुर राजस्थान का एक महत्वपूर्ण शहर है और वास्तुकला, प्राकृतिक सुन्दरता एवं अपनी समृद्ध परंपरा, संस्कृति और ऐतिहासिक महत्व के लिए के लिए देश विदेश में प्रसिद्ध है। यहाँ हर साल हज़ारों की तादात में सैलानी आते है और भारत व राजस्थान के पर्यटन मानचित्र पर उदयपुर एक स्थापित नाम है।

Yagya May 26th, 2011, 11:58 PM Chetak, was the horse of Rana Pratap, whom Pratap rode during the gruesome Battle of Haldighati, June 21, 1576. Chetak died in this battle and since then has been immortalized in the ballads of Rajasthan. Chetak lives on in poetic traditions as the epitome of loyalty.

Yagya May 27th, 2011, 12:23 AM It was built by Maharana Bhopal Singh. Saheliyon ki Bari means Garden of the Maids. There is also a small museum here.
Sahelion Ki Bari' was laid for a group of forty-eight young women attendants who accompanied a princess to Udaipur as part of her dowry. The gardens set below the embankment of the Fateh Sagar Lake have beautiful lotus pools, marble pavilions and elephant- shaped fountains. These fountains are fed by the water of the lake gushing through ducts made for the purpose. Each water channel has its distinct sound and the mingling of these sounds complement the ambience of the place

Yagya May 27th, 2011, 12:36 AM Gangaur is the colourful and the one of the most important festivals of people of Rajasthan and is observed throughout the state with great fervour and devotion by womenfolk who worship Gauri, the consort of Lord Shiva during March-April. It is the celebration of spring, harvest and marital fidelity in Jaipur. Gana is a synonym for Lord Shiva and Gaur which stands for Gauri or Parvati who symbolizes Saubhagya (marital bliss). The unmarried women worship her for being blessed good husband, while married women do so for the welfare, health and long life of their husbands and happy married life.
The festival commences on the first day of chaitra, the day following Holi and continues for 18 days.

Yagya May 27th, 2011, 12:51 AM The sky conditions at Udaipur are quite favourable for solar observations. Since the observatory is situated amidst a large mass of water, air turbulence which occurs due to ground heating by sun's rays is decreased. This improves the image quality and accuracy (average between 1-2 arc seconds).
The observatory was built in the year 1976 by Dr. Arvind Bhatnagar following the model of the Solar Observatory at Big Bear lake in Southern California. Later, he was joined by Dr. Ashok Ambastha in 1983 and subsequently by others who have contributed to its development.

It was inaugurated on the birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru. The garden overlooks the ancient Moti Mahal of Maharana Pratap and gives a view of the Aravalli hills on three sides.
