Minaa FC is one of first Iraqi clubs , it was established in the 1919 (officially in 1932) . Today , the main stadium in the club (last building was in 1995 ) which holds up to 10,000 spectators was removed in order to start building a new stadium to be used as a second stadium in the Gulf Cup which the city of Basrah will hold.

In Iraq they are really getting awake and start renovating or building new stadiums on rapid pace.

Exterior looks decent, but a shame that it contains a athletics track.

No matter with the track if you design the stadium carefully so the spectators can view Football "gladly".

Well, two stadiums belong to the sports city and this one is being build for Al-Minaa Club. The main stadium in the sports city can be used for the National team.

Culture of stadium design in the Middle East. Still the same in Africa, many parts of Asia. Will take time to phase out.

I think it's a conceptual thing. Most of European countries build stadiums (either public, private or mixed investments) looking at revenues. That's why we have so many football-specific venues. Most of 3rd world countries aren't there yet, they want quality multisport stadiums that are not meant to be money-making machines. Of course it's welcome to generate profits, but the priority is to serve many different sports/events, not minding that athletics aren't close to football in terms of popularity.
