Yagya May 26th, 2011, 07:30 PM Volvos, Mercs to run across Rajasthan
Jaipur: Now you can take a ride on a Volvo or a Mercedes Benz bus to any district headquarters in Rajasthan. The department of roadways will be replicating its high-end air-conditioned bus service on the Delhi-Jaipur highway in all districts of the state.
In addition, tourists taking a ride to Rajasthan from Delhi can now pick a super-luxury bus to the popular destinations of their choice instead of routing their travel through Jaipur. They can travel directly to Jaisalmer or Ajmer-Pushkar on a Volvo bus from Delhi!
State transport minister Brij Kishore Sharma said that the government would ply 700 air-conditioned buses in all the districts. He said that efforts are being made to ensure that Volvo and other air-conditioned deluxe buses do not run only between Delhi and Jaipur.
"Keeping in mind the convenience of travellers and tourists, the services of high-end luxury buses are being extended from Delhi to cities like Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Udaipur and Ajmer," he said.
The state Roadways will also expand its bus services to Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Shimla, Dehradun, Agra, Haridwar, Lucknow, Mathura and Indore from Delhi. The minister informed about the expansion plans while inaugurating the tourist reception centre of Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) at Bikaner House in New Delhi, on Thursday.
The Rajasthan Roadways will be adding Isuzu buses to its stable of luxury buses from the first week of June. The RSRTC already runs Volvo and Mercedes buses in its fleet of super luxury buses. The transport minister said that 1000 new buses will be added to the fleet of the Rajasthan roadways. "This is expected to improve travel facilities in state and shall control the operation of illegal buses," he added.
Chairman and Managing Director of RSRTC, Manjit Singh, said that the expansion of transport services was a part of the blue-print to overhaul the RSRTC's operations. He said that the new reception centre will have facilities of booking counters, air-conditioned waiting rooms for tourists, cloak rooms, LCD TV, luggage trolleys, parking facilities and e-ticketing service for the tourists.

s.yogendra August 9th, 2011, 05:23 AM Low-floor buses to be spick and span
Jaipur: Around 280 low-floor buses waiting for proper maintenance, will get some relief.
In a bid to maintain them, the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) has acquired and installed an automatic machine, which has started working at the Sanganer bus depot from Sunday.
According to RSRTC officials, pile of dusts has been the primary reason for the break-down of the buses more often on the roads leaving passengers fuming as these buses have not been cleaned for almost 13 months since their launch.
Now the machine will regularly clean them and the mechanical snags are expected to be minimised. Also the glasses will no longer be dirty.
A RSTS official said, "The regular washing and cleaning with the machine will be helpful to keep the buses neat and clean. We have started cleaning these buses from Sunday at Sanganer depot.” About Rs 15 lakh has been spent on the purchase of the machine, he added.
Meanwhile, the Jaipur city transport service limited (JCTSL) has also decided to run and maintain the buses on public contract. The reason behind the move is reportedly growing financial losses for operating these buses.

Kudos to Rajasthan Government. Have to say GoR is doing some work this time around.http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/jaipur/Kota-Jodhpur-to-have-low-floor-buses/articleshow/9678755.cms
JAIPUR: After Jaipur, low-floor buses would now be introduced in Kota and Jodhpur. Urban development and housing minister Dhariwal said on Saturday that 25 low-floor buses each will be introduced in Kota and Jodhpur. The buses will have global positioning system, which would provide information about the location of buses.
Besides, the department has announced that the common mobility card (CMC) will be launched in the city in another six months after signing the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Saturday with a private company.
Commuters won't have to carry cash one they start carrying CMC in low-floor buses.
The first phase of the CMC project would cost around Rs 14 crore which would be launched in 280 buses of the city.
The state government inked the deal for CMC with UTI infrastructure technology services limited.
The door of buses would open automatically as soon as a commuter would touch the card to a machine fixed at the door of the buses.
Jaipur City Transport Services Limited (JCTSL) managing director Malini Agarwal said, "Initially, commuters will be able to use the CMC card in 280 buses but when other buses are introduced, they will also have the same facility."
The card would be like an ATM card and can be recharged like pre-paid mobile phones. Commuters can travel in Metro trains with the same CMC card.
Besides, Dhariwal visited the Gurjar ki Thadi to review the work of underpass and also visited the Metro depot in Mansarovar. He was satisfied with the speed of work on both sites.

RSRTC staff to get tips on politeness
JAIPUR: A total of 1,584 drivers and conductors of the Rajasthan State Roadways Transport Corporation (RSRTC) would undergo a training session, which would make them more passenger-friendly and careful while driving.
As some drivers of the RSRTC earned bad name because of rash-driving, the corporation has decided to train them in driving and give them a few tips on how to behave with passengers.
The new drivers and conductors are expected to join the RSRTC in September. They have cleared the written exams and the trade test.
Passengers and conductors often argue over trivial matters, which makes the journey unpleasant. RSRTC deputy general manager (administration) Satya Pal said, "Drivers who will join the RSRTC possess heavy vehicle driving licence. They all know driving, but we are planning to give them lessons on how to behave with passengers."
For more than a decade, there was no appointment of new drivers and conductors.
RSRTC public relations manager Sudhir Bhati said, "The rate of accidents of RSRTC buses is very less compared to other state buses. As these drivers are new, we have decided to train them to drive roadways buses. They have experience of driving heavy vehicles but driving roadways buses is a different thing."
As there are many conductors who are facing departmental inquiries for their alleged involvement in financial irregularities, new conductors would be given lessons on RSRTC norms.

Chopper taxi service awaits govt nod
Ajay Parmar, TNN Aug 5, 2011, 05.21am IST
JODHPUR: The state may soon have helicopter taxis provided the government gives its nod on a proposal to start chartered air services.
Affluent trusts have submitted a proposal for the air taxi service to the government through the Jodhpur divisional commissioner recently.
Once launched, the service will have a fleet of dedicated helicopters which can not only be availed by tourists for travel across the state but also by business magnates and corporate houses.
Initially, the proposal has been floated considering the religious areas of interest in the state and most of the trusts behind the proposal are basically the religious trusts. However, the service is likely to be extended to anyone willing to avail it as the state is grappling with an abject lack of qualitative and quick means of transport specially in view of long and exhausting distances.
Jodhpur divisional commissioner R K Jain said the state has been cut off in terms of air connectivity, particularly when it comes to chartered flights and has been a hurdle on prospects concerning both tourism and industry. "Though considerable improvement in surface transport has taken place in the past few years but hardly any initiation has been taken with regard to air connectivity. The growth rate of the state can be further expedited with faster mode of transport," he said highlighting that 18 prosperous religious trusts of the state have offered to fund a fleet of helicopters and run it on "no loss no profit" basis.
Suggesting a broad action plan for the proposal, Jain said, "I have proposed to the government that if the proposal is approved, these trusts are ready to run this service through a properly managed mechanism."
He said in western Rajasthan, Barmer and Jaislamer are emerging as energy hubs and global corporates are setting up their operations in oil and gas. Further, Jodhpur is becoming an educational hub with a full-fledged handicraft industry, apart from the emerging tourism industry in the state. "Considering these factors, there is an urgent necessity of strengthening the air infrastructure here. Even the industries also approved the idea that an immediate beginning can be made by introducing helicopter services, which practically has no gestation period and will propel the prospects of the state," Jain added.
Welcoming the idea, Govind Singh Rathore, a tourism entrepreneur, said there are many global tourists who skip some important destinations due to absence of proper air connectivity or due to absence of some quick means of transport keeping the long distances in mind. "This service will result in not only further exposure of the state as a tourist destination but also result in spurt in the flow of tourists," Singh asserted.

The Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) has decided to start short parcel service in the state.
From now on, people can send parcels and small packets to their near and dear ones through state roadways buses. All the arrangement for this will be made by a city based private agency.
RSRTC Chief Managing Director Manjit Singh has asked to start the service in all buses that have luggage carrier installed inside. The drivers and conductors of the buses carrying these parcels will be given Rs 5 per challan. The step will prove beneficial for both people as well as roadways.

s.yogendra September 6th, 2011, 05:18 AM RSRTC returns 40 outstation buses
Rajasthan State Roadways Transport Corporation (RSRTC) has returned back 40 of the 75 buses from outstation depots. The buses had been brought in Jodhpur to manage the pressure on the RSRTC due to the Dussehra fair organised by Baba Ramdev.
The authorities have decided the withdrawal after a significant decrease in the number of commuters was noted two days into the fair. They said 150 special buses had been started from August 30 but the low number of visitors have forced the roadways to send back the buses that had been brought in from Pali, Sirohi, Nagaur, Falna, Abu road, Ajmer, Chittor and Udaipur depots.
RSRTC had earlier provided for an hourly-bus service but due to decrease in number of visitors, the service has been made top function once daily.

Yagya September 12th, 2011, 05:20 PM RSRTC to watch over passengers, staff
To ensure completely safe travel on buses connecting with other states, particularly in the era of growing road mishaps and anti-national elements targeting transport modes, the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) is going for GPS-tracking system to keep a sustained eye on its 1500-odd buses.
The Global Positioning System (GPS) based tracking system is likely to be place in these buses connecting with 11 states and Chandigarh union territory (UT) by December this year. "Bids have been invited for the ambitious vehicle tracking project and the company which will perform the task will be finalized by this month end," RSRTC CMD Dr Manjit Singh informed.
The new system which is likely to be in place by this year end is targeted at reducing leakages in system, besides minimising accidents, through round-the-clock meticulous tracking of RSRTC buses connecting with other states. Also, the system is aimed at checking various irregularities in buses both at the point of drivers and conductors, thus ensuring punctuality of buses and revenue from ticket sales is not affected by errant drivers-conductors.
Similar tracking system is operating on buses in Bangalore, besides in the air-conditioned buses in Punjab and Delhi, but RSRTC has decided to go for more extensive tracking of its fleet, by putting under GPS-radar all its buses connecting with other states, including Uttarakhand, UP, Punjab, Harayana, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and UT of Chandigarh.
The system, which will be operated through a Centralised Control Room in Jaipur, will not only help in tracking the buses physically, but also aid the Corporation in keeping a tab on number of passengers in its inter-state buses.
"Not only the buses will be tracked physically, but also the Electronic Ticketing machines with the conductors will be on GPS-tracking system," RSRTC official spokesperson Sudhir Bhati said. RSRTC officials hope once the new vehicle tracking system starts functioning it will also aid better fleet/vehicle utilisation of inter-state buses. A state roadways official said it's particularly going to help in meticulously spotting a vehicle in case of accident or any sabotage.

s.yogendra September 24th, 2011, 05:51 PM RSRTC plans to develop bus museum despite heavy losses
Jaipur: Getting out of mounting losses could still be a pipe dream for the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC). But, it doesn't restrain the Corporation from dreaming big.
http://images.bhaskar.com/web2images/www.dailybhaskar.com/2011/09/21/images/bus_museum1_f.jpg
Inspired by the world famous London Transport Museum, RSRTC chairman and managing director Manjit Singh has embarked on a mission preserving old buses in a museum and recreate models of these buses for public viewing. Singh happened to get the idea during his visit to the London Transport Museum, early this year.
As per sources, the RSRTC would collect old models of buses, since 1960s when the Corporation first commenced operations. In years to come the pictures and models would be showcased as a museum on lines of London Museum, provided the Corporation gets government approval and money to back its plan.
An RSRTC official informed that directions for preserving old buses and making models out of pictures of old buses were recently issued at the meeting of zonal heads of the Corporation.
Officials in Jaipur have already been tasked with collecting pictures of old buses, spanning from the first green-coloured express busses of the 1960s to red-coloured city buses. Other models which would be preserved would feature the first deluxe bus introduced in 1970s, the women's special bus and the chal vidyalaya bus service pressed into service in recent years.
Established in 1980, the London Transport Museum preserves and explains the transport heritage of London to the visitors. It operates at two sites, Covent Garden and Acton in London and preserves a wide array of heritage transport systems, including heritage buses, trams, trolleybuses and rail rolling stock.
When contacted, Singh said that work is underway to collect pictures and build models of old buses and conserving the original models of heritage buses. "We might be able to replicate London's world famous possession to some extent for the first time in India," he said. This effort would not only preserve our heritage buses, but would also educate school and college goers, besides becoming a draw for tourists," Singh hoped.

http://daily.bhaskar.com/article/RAJ-JPR-rsrtcs-big-plan-fails-to-take-off-2466567.html
Jaipur: In 2010, the Rajasthan State Roadways Transport Corporation (RSRTC) had announced an ambitious plan to develop five city bus stations into snazzy mall-cum-bus terminals. A year later, the plan has not taken off and only meant building castles in air.
Already struggling to overcome mounting losses, the RSRTC has shelled out Rs 30-35 lakh to kick-start the dream project but the end result has been zero.
The RSRTC attempts to rope in big-ticket developers/ builders through big advertisements, road show in New Delhi and a meet in Jaipur. But it has failed to trigger even a single bid (Expression of Interest-EOI) from over 50 prominent builders who attended the hard-sell campaign.
While the builders are terming the project unviable, the RSRTC is still hopeful of making a start after addressing the concerns of builders through some alterations in the project. With work on a similar project starting eight months ago (though after months of delay) at a bus station in Kota district, where a prominent builder of New Delhi has been tasked with actualising the dream idea into reality. RSRTC Chairman and Managing Director Manjit Singh is hopeful of breaking the ice with builders within a week, by making changes which might suit their business interests.
"A few of their concerns blocked the start of this ambitious project in Jaipur. We're not discouraged, however and will try and sort out the matter by addressing their concerns, through some alterations in our plans in a week," Singh said.
Over 50 developers were present at the twin exercises but not even a single EOI was received by RSRTC by August 17, the last date of bidding. Sources at RSRTC informed that the project envisaged developing malls-cum-bus stations on 30,000 to 50,000 metre area on each of the five city bus stations: Vidyadhar Nagar, Sanganer, Sindhi Camp, Deluxe Depot-Jothwara Road and Transport Nagar.

Four new routes for Volvo bus service in offing
Jaipur: Four new Volvo bus services are on the anvil. The Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) plans to connect Jaipur with Mumbai, Shirdi, Somnath and Katra with the premium Volvo bus service by November.
Also, the Corporation plans to restart the Jaipur-Indore-Jaipur Volvo bus service, away from road for the past one month, due to bad roads in Kota-Bundi and Jhalawar.
The RSRTC sources said that talks are in final stage with the state roadways of Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh to start the four new Volvo service including the resumption of the Jaipur-Indore Volvo service.
"We're making all efforts to start the Volvo buses from Jaipur to Mumbai, Shirdi, Somnath and Katra by November," RSRTC spokesman Sudhir Bhati said on Thursday. While, the Jaipur-Mumbai service will connect the two cities in 19 hours, after a half-an-hour stoppage each at Udaipur and Ahmedabad, the Jaipur-Katra service will take 17 hours to connect the two destinations.
Presently, RSRTC Express buses from Ajmer and Udaipur connect Mumbai via Gujarat, while similar buses connect Jaipur with Katra. "With roads likely to be improved by November in Kota-Bundi-Jhalawar, the stalled Jaipur-Indore-Jaipur Volvo is also likely to be back on roads by next month," Bhati added.
The four new Volvo services are aimed at tapping the enormous potential of religious travel undertaken by the affluent class from Jaipur to Somnath-Dwarika, Katra (Vaishno Devi shrine) and Shirdi Sai Baba shrine.

nikh.mittal November 1st, 2011, 06:53 AM Jaipur: The festive season has proved a real festival for the roadways. Rush in the buses started showing from Friday night itself. According to the sources the Sindhi Cam bus stand has earned more than 8 lakh rupees as profit in the past few days.
On the other hand Trains are also full with passengers and no tickets are available for the passengers. The Sindhi Camp bus stand is earning 35 lakh per day because of the festive season. However the earning of the bus stand on normal days is 25 to 26 lakh. Till now the roadways have not started any extra bus services but for Saturday and Sunday extra buses will be started.
Trains and buses are going over loaded because of Diwali holidays which will start from Saturday. According to the information trains are already full for the past one month. The waiting list have crossed hundreds. It is to be noted that from Saturday holidays in schools-colleges and government offices will begun and this will leave the bus and train booking with no room. Long distance trains are already full and tickets on these trains are not available. However the railways have started 10 extra trains for this occasion but keeping in mind the rush this is not enough.
Confirm tickets in trains like Jaipur-Mumbai, Jaipur, Chennai, Jodhpur–Howrah, Jaipur-Jammu, Marusagar Ajmer-Arnakulam, Jaipu-Maysore, Jaipur-Coimbatore, Ashmram Express, Jaipu-Ahmedabad, Ajmer-Sialdah, Garib Nawaz Express, Hanumangarh-Kota Special, Ala Hazrat Express, Aravali Express,Jaipur-Mumbai, Udaipur-Gwalior, Jaipur-Indore, Jaipur-Sariohilla, Jaipur-Jabalpur isbecoming difficult. Howver thae railways have temporarily increased coaches but this has not solved the problem.
The roadways have also started preparing for the festive occasion and have given orders to the bus stands to keep the arrangements of extra buses.

s.yogendra December 1st, 2011, 03:48 PM RSRTC to stop plying on 61 routes
The Rajasthan State Roadways Transport Corporation (RSRTC) has decided recently to call off its express bus service on 61 non-profitable routes. The decision is likely to affect 10,000 passengers. Most of the routes connected rural areas to small towns.
"This was done to reduce losses. The average passenger load on such routes is the minimal," an RSRTC official said. The date of ending operation is yet to be decided by the corporation.
Two routes from Jaipur were scrapped. Surprisingly, the service between Jaipur and Bhilwara, which comes on national highway 8, is suspended. Sources said the corporationrun buses charge a higher fare than private buses --diverting passengers to private players.
"Stopping buses on some routes will directly help private players, whose fares are less than corporation buses," said a source. On the other hand passengers on some routes will face drastic problems as corporation buses are the only players.
The zonal managers identified 61 routes which have low passenger loads causing losses to the corporation. Source said that corporation had taken many corrective measures before arriving at this decision .
The average earning from buses per kilometre is Rs 15. Routes which are recovering less than Rs 15 are known to be liabilities for the corporation.
The calling off of buses on routes goes against the state governments ' promise of connecting all gram panchayats from district headquarters. However, the corporation has no choice in order to reduce losses. "The rising maintenance cost added to increasing toll taxes in the state result in rise in fairs," said RSTRC official.

World8115 December 6th, 2011, 04:04 AM Jaipur-Mumbai AC Volvo bus service from today: RSRTC
Source: Daily Bhaskar (http://daily.bhaskar.com/article/RAJ-JPR-jaipur-mumbai-ac-volvo-bus-service-from-today-rsrtc-2618475.html)
A direct air-conditioned bus service will connect Jaipur with country's commercial capital Mumbai. The Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) will start operating premium volvo bus service from Jaipur to Mumbai from Tuesday.
The 41-45 seater bus will travel daily from Jaipur to Mumbai and Mumbai to Jaipur in 22 hours, via Bhilwara-Udaipur-Ahmedabad-Vapi-Virar.
The super luxury AC-volvo bus would leave Jaipur at 11 am and end its journey at Mumbai Central Bus Stand (opposite to Bombay Central) at 8.45 am the next day. On route to Mumbai, the bus would halt at Bhilwara, Chittorgarh Bypass stand, Udaipur, Ahmedabad, Baroda, Surat, Valsad, Vapi and Virar.
The same bus will daily make the return journey from Mumbai Central bus stand at 6.30 pm and reach Jaipur through the same route and identical halts at 4 pm the next day, RSRTC official spokesman Sudhir Bhatti informed.
The Jaipur-Mumbai volvo bus journey will cost Rs 1971 to each bus passenger. Presently, trains connecting Jaipur and Mumbai via Sawai Madhopur-Kota and Ajmer-Ahmedabad route take 17 to 20 hours.
The Jaipur-Mumbai volvo bus service is not a new bus service, but extension of the already existing Jaipur-Surat volvo service, added the spokesman.
"This would particularly benefit the passengers between the two cities who are unable to make the railway journey for want of confirmed rail reservation," the RSRTC spokesman added.
The new bus service will also render second volvo bus service for those wanting to travel between Jaipur and Ahmedabad. Already a volvo bus service leaves Jaipur daily at 9.30 pm for Ahmedabad. The volvo bus services from Jaipur presently connects the Pink City with Delhi, Agra, Lucknow, Shimla, Hardwar, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Dungerpur.
s.yogendra December 14th, 2011, 05:20 AM RSRTC buses to Agra giving a bumpy ride
JAIPUR: It seems that the Rajasthan State Roadways Transport Corporation (RSRTC) is eyeing only the super-luxury category of buses. In a good tourist season when many tourists opt for the Golden Triangle covering Jaipur-Delhi-Agra, majority of the 2X2 deluxe (non-AC) buses are in a bad shape. The buses plying on the smooth Jaipur-Agra highway take 6-7 hours to cover a distance of about 220 km.
Though RSRTC has announced Mercedes and Volvo buses for new routes including Jaipur-Mumbai, but Jaipur-Agra and Jaipur-Delhi routes are facing "apathy" of the authorities. It becomes troublesome especially for those passengers who don't prefer air-conditioned and super-luxury buses.

nikh.mittal February 7th, 2012, 07:19 AM More buses for RSRTC fleet soon
JAIPUR: The Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Rajasthan-State-Road-Transport-Corporation) (RSRTC) will soon add new air-conditioned (AC) and non air-conditioned buses in its fleet. An order of 500 blue line buses and 40 AC buses have been issued by the corporation. Along with it the RSRTC will also introduce 20 mini-buses in the Walled City area by next week.
"Following the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model we ordered 500 buses and till now we have received 100 of them. The plan is to get them on road by March 31," said Manjeet Singh, chairman and managing director of RSRTC.
The corporation will also buy 1,000 new buses for which the state government will give financial aid. These buses will be added by June 2012 and is a part of the announcement made during the last budget. "Our long term goal is to connect every district with the panchayat head quarterx. With the new buses we will be able to ply more buses on the routes connecting villages," added Singh.
To connect Jaipur with long distance cities like Ahmedabad, Lucknow etc. 15 more semi-sleeper Volvo will be introduced by the corporation. "Volvo buses will also be based on PPP as it is very costly to buy them. The private players will run the buses and we will regulate them," said Singh.
The 20 mini-buses for the Walled City will replace the big buses which the traffic police had declared unsuitable for plying in the congested areas. Starting from next week, though delayed by two months, these buses will operate on two-three major routes covering most parts of the Walled City.
To alleviate the parking problem of low-floor buses the Jaipur City Transport Service Limited (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Jaipur-City-Transport-Service-Limited) (JCTSL) managed to get land on Sikar Road and Mansarovar. "The space will be enough to park the buses and no bus will be parked on the roads," added Singh.

Yagya May 28th, 2012, 01:31 AM 1000 Rajasthan State Roadways Corporation buses to have global positioning system from Tuesday
JAIPUR: Rajasthan will be the first state in the country where global positioning system (GPS) would be installed in around 1,000 buses of the state-owned Rajasthan State Roadways Corporation (RSRTC). The installation process would begin from Tuesday onwards. This system will not only enable the authorities to keep a track on the long-distance buses but will also facilitate them to put a check on things like theft of diesel which has been a big concern since it was rampant with the RSRTC buses.
With installation of the GPS, travel with the long-distance buses of RSRTC would be more convenient they system would be connected with the public information system (PIS).
"As in railways, passengers waiting at the central bus stand, Jaipur, can now listen to the regular announcement of the exact time of arrival of the buses. Usually when a bus departs, there are announcements. But with this system, when our control room would be connected to all the 1000 buses having this system, we would be able to track their movements thus can facilitate passengers with every minor details of the bus," Sudhir Bhati, official spokesperson of RSRTC, said on Sunday.
On the other advantages of the GPS enabled buses, Bhati said, "These buses would also be having a diesel censor so that in case somebody will try to steal the fuel, it would be noticed by the PIS control room."
He said there was abundance of such cases in which drivers of RSRTC were found stealing fuels and leaving the bus half way.
In the next phase, RSRTC is aiming at installing GPS system in at least 4,500 buses.
At some of the bus stands, including Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur and Ajmer, LCD screens which will display the positioning of various buses would also be installed. "There would be two LCD screens at the zonal depots across the state to enable passengers with the information of the buses," an official said.
Besides giving the time of arrival and departure, all information will be displayed in both Hindi and English languages, the official added.
Advantages of GPS
Passengers can see the movement of the buses and their positions on the web portal of RSRTC
In case the driver is exceeding the permissible speed limit, it would be known to the control room of RSRTC. Defaulting drivers would be warned over phone to control the speed
In case of any accident the information would be noticed by the control room and thus officials can act promptly in such emergencies
