Commercial Building Workers To Strike If Contract Deal Isn't Reached

SEPTEMBER 29TH, 2004

Service workers at the city's commercial buildings are vowing to strike if a new contract isn't reached by Thursday’s deadline.

Local 32BJ voted to authorize a walkout last week. The union’s present contract expires at midnight tomorrow.

Around-the-clock negotiations are now being held between the union and the Realty Advisory Board at the New York Hilton in Midtown Manhattan. Workers are asking for pay increases and better health care coverage.

Local 32BJ represents more than 30,000 service workers in over 1,000 office buildings throughout the city.
