The 300 buses, bought 21 months ago, had hit the city roads, holding out hope of revolutionising public transport in Calcutta. The fleet has shrunk to 53. Of the 240 Tata buses, only 15 are in operation. Volvo buses are faring better with 38 of the 60 on the road. “These buses will have to be sold as scrap if nothing is done about them soon. I will speak to the minister so that they can be used across the state,” said Mamata. State finance minister Amit Mitra on Monday told the managements that the government cannot continue to pay them such a whopping annual subsidy of Rs 500 crore endlessly. Mitra asked them to work out some arrangements so that the subsidy could be cut down periodically, until it would no longer be necessary. Mitra and transport minister Subrata Bakshi met managing directors and chairpersons of the corporations - CTC, CSTC, NBSTC, WBSTC and SBSTC - at Writers' Buildings on Monday. http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2011-07-26/kolkata/29815990_1_transport-corporations-sbstc-wbstc sidney_jec August 9th, 2011, 05:33 AM its time to merge all of these into one unit. studdmanster August 9th, 2011, 06:45 AM Very true...that would even help in keeping a check on the expenses... raj145_91 August 10th, 2011, 09:19 PM Tata plans 100 utility vehicle showrooms Kolkata : Automobile major Tata Motors is planning 100 exclusive utility vehicle (UV) showrooms across the country as part of its enhanced focus on the segment, a company official said here Wednesday. "We have planned UV exclusive showrooms across the country. The advantage of such showrooms is that the focus is concentrated only on a particular segment, which is beneficial for the company and the consumers equally," the company's utility vehicle division head Rajesh Nair told reporters. Initially 35-40 such showrooms would come up by 2012. The eastern region will get 20, with West Bengal bagging eight of them. Gradually the number will go up to 100, Nair said after launching a variant of its UV Aria. Source:http://twocircles.net/2011aug10/tata_plans_100_utility_vehicle_showrooms.html s.yogendra December 2nd, 2011, 07:23 PM Transport PSUs told to prepare annual plan The state government on Thursday asked five state transport corporations - which get Rs 600 crore annually from the state exchequer - to prepare annual plans to generate their own funds. The preparation of the plans may include anything from offering voluntary retirement schemes (VRS) to using properties under the corporations for generating funds. Also, they have been asked to prepare their own budgets for the next financial year and a viability chart for bus routes. If required, some routes may be terminated and their timing changed. State transport minister Subrata Bakshi held a meeting with chairpersons and managing directors of five transport PSUs - Calcutta State Transport Corporation, North Bengal State Transport Corporation, West Bengal Surface Transport Corporation and Calcutta Tram Company - at Writers' Buildings to review their stand. Bakshi, however, refused to comment on the matter. Together, the transport corporations have recruited over 4,000 employees without informing the finance department. Worse, the government has to spent Rs 50 core per month as subsidy to keep them afloat. On Thursday, Bakshi made it clear at the meeting that the government won't go on paying this amount and asked the senior officials to convey to the employees that the subsidy will be gradually withdrawn and the PSUs will have to fend for themselves in the future. Another issue on which the government made its stand clear, say officials, was that the salary would be provided only for the genuine employees and not those for whom the state government gave no sanction. Employees of the five corporations got their October's salary in the third week of November after the corporations submitted a list of "ghost" employees. The corporations were also asked to submit life certificate on pension this month. Officials were asked to prepare plans to generate income from properties, though not necessarily by selling them. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/kolkata-/Transport-PSUs-told-to-prepare-annual-plan/articleshow/10950471.cms |
