GENEX Rare Construction pic!!!

Hi fellows,

I just found this pic of the Genex Belgrade landmark on the net....It's probably from 1978-79. :)

It is weird looking because it has no facade but there are bunch of buildings looking like this in the world that are not weird just because of that smalll detail.

Ok well I live in Belgrade and personally I don’t like the building. The top tower thing was supposed to be a restaurant a very luxurious restaurant but there was I think a problem with a construction. It was supposed to go in circles. Now and from when it was built its nothing. BTW Kokologist thanks for the pic

It'd be a lot better if the spiral thing on top disappeared and the two sections were moved closer to each other, not leaving a gap in between.

I think the shape is interesting...a silhouette of Genex would be nice, and recognizable for Belgrade...the type of shape you could draw in three pencil strokes - like Eiffel tower, Sydney Opera house, and EVERYONE will recognize it.

But the building itself is gross... :( Not beyond repaid...as you guys said, a fresh color and some glass...can you imagine it? Gorgeous.

No the rubble fell on it. My cousin lives in Battery Park, like 100m from the WTC. I parked the rented car in one of the surrounding parking spaces so that the car could be returned the next morning. As he buildings fell, the car was smashed by debris.

Wow...so differently there.

I remember here it was just all of sudden all the Americans were running to Butmir, and there was a commotion. So I came out of my shop, and some rumors were going - at first we thought it was us being attacked. And I of course assumed...

So I phoned my sister and other relatives who live nearest to RS border and I was just in a panic and then the television changed to footage from New York and I just sat down and watched it. It reminded me so much of Unitic, then the people jumping. I don't think I moved that whole day.

People took it hard here. The flowers started piling up at everything American, even fast-food place. My niece has three girls in her class - two named Amerika and one named Klintona - hehehe.

I just felt so bad for them, and then those people that did it - thinking they do it in my name? They're as bad as those that did to us, and did to you, and did to them. Might be easier, but it's cowardly. You think I couldn't blow myself in Belgrade? That I wasn't angry enough in 1993 to do it? I would've been proud to do it. And now, that terrifies me. Now that is calm and there is peace and you see calmly, and you can see...even if it was WORSE than you thought at the time, it's still no reason for such actions.

I'm rambling so I'll stop. :D

The problem with that is that the tower was not envisioned architecturally to have paint. This is the style of building that was designed, with the brutalist style. It might look slightly better, but some architects might get pissed off that they are trying to change the building into something it wasn't supposed to be. I say leave it. From the pictures that Singidunum posted, the tower actually looks quite nice. I would just change the windows and renovate the interior.

I catualy like the Genex buildings.. I know the first time I saw them.. I thought wow how modern they are!.. hehehe I like them, because they are a symbol for Belgrade. :)

Genex was renting whole tower after 1999 until recently. There were RTS, Pink, Delta and others there.

yes i was just about to say, Genex was supposed to be the "gate to the city", oh well, as far as proximity to the airport, its not exactly close to it but its not really far either....the building dosn't really bother me, its been there for so long that it dosn't phase me :)

Meni je super Genex...baš super opisuje duh jedne prošle epohe. Moj stari je bio jednom prilikom u Genexu kad je išao kod poslovnih partnera u Beograd i bio je skroz oduševljen nebodrom:lol: .
