After successful completion of the final masterplan for the redevelopment of the Bahrain City Gardens site, Atkins has now been appointed to further develop the masterplan and provide complete design consultancy services for this prestigious project.
New Shopping Mall:
This is designed as a single storey extension to the existing shopping mall, keeping in mind the objective of creating additional boutiques, incorporating the same building heights, spatial parameters, mall widths and shop sizes.
Anchor Tenant:
An exclusive showroom for an anchor tenant occupies the entire area between the two pedestrian spines to the front of the mall. A private VIP lift lobby with dedicated VIP parking bays is provided in the basement for exclusive use of select customers to the anchor shop.
Garden Court:
A spectacular sky-lit, circular, indoor courtyard garden forms the centerpiece of both malls, also serving as an air-conditioned transition space between the Malls and the Sheraton Hotel.
Office Towers:
Twin office towers are designed flanking the main entrance facing King Faisal Highway. These landmark towers are 240m in height and each comprise 45 usable office floors. An exclusive, executive health club, a business centre and cafeteria are located at the podium level, within the footprint of these towers. Entrance drop-offs are provided both at ground floor and at podium level (dedicated for towers).
A study is also underway on the feasibility of providing three 30m-diameter wind turbines suspended between the towers which will produce an environmentally friendly energy resource for the building.
Car Parking:
The car parking requirement for the new mall and office towers is calculated at 1,335 bays. Approximately 305 bays presently serving the existing mall and offices. The new design can accommodate up to 1,670 cars inclusive of 1,175 covered spaces and 473 open parking. A dedicated 3-storey parking structure is planned to the southwest of the development. The basement and upper most level (level + 7.0) of this garage will extend over the entire footprint of the new development.

Dubai-Lover October 22nd, 2004, 01:28 PM thought it was part of the project
nice view on the massive site
Bahraini Spirit October 22nd, 2004, 01:31 PM well it's the existing bahrain commercial complext also known as the sheraton, and the towers are going to expand on what already exists so it will be huge. I always told my parents when i was a kid that the area (now the construction site) that was a huge carpark and had trees should be utilized to build towers and expand the mall, and hey somebody listened :)
Bahraini Spirit October 22nd, 2004, 01:32 PM Btw, the mall is considered posh, that is if you want to buy luxury goods, you go here. The mall is being renovated and it looks better and they have good food in foodies.

Dubai-Lover October 24th, 2004, 05:48 PM City Gardens in spotlight
An exciting new promotion is being been planned for the Manama's City Gardens shopping centre, a meeting was told.
Te complex is currently under development and work has already started to create two new 42-storey office blocks at the site as well as over 100 new shops.
The inaugural meeting of a Retail Tenants Forum (RTF) of City Gardens took place at the Sheraton Hotel.
The RTF has been implemented by DTZ Bahrain, the centre's new property management company.
The owners have appointed DTZ to help positive interaction between the tenants and the owners of the centre.
Cliff Langford, head of property management at DTZ, said: "DTZ manages very many properties world wide and puts great importance on communicating professionally with its tenants.
"By creating this RTF we are giving the tenants the opportunity to be interactive and helping them work together to create strategies for promoting the centre both locally and regionally and to ensure that they take full advantage of the future developments currently under progress at the site."
Construction has already started on the twin tower development, which is due to be completed in the summer of 2006.
Twelve tenants formed the main structure of the committee.
Langford and Carol Melrose, managing director of Contact Communications, the appointed marketing consultants for the complex, attended in an advisory role.
Langford explained briefly the objective of forming such an association.
He said: "It is important that all tenants use this meeting as platform to air their views about the running of the centre and to provide new ideas for its development.
"At the same time, the centre is under development and the facilities being added will ensure that it will maintain its position of being the most exclusive mall in Bahrain."
The committee also discussed plans for opening and entertaining during Ramadan as well as an exciting new promotion, which has been planned for the mall.
The association will encourage all tenants to become members and work towards mutually agreed strategic objectives with the aim of promoting unity and building networks to enhance the business prospects for the complex.
The RTF will be working closely with Contact Communications to implement a unified owner and tenant marketing and promotion strategy for the shopping centre during the development process to maximise awareness and footfall.
Bahraini Spirit October 24th, 2004, 07:25 PM now why is the number of floors changing everytime, I hope they won't change the height, i won't be surprised if it's less than 200 m if they'll slash the number of floors.
Bahraini Spirit October 24th, 2004, 08:08 PM say dubai-lover, where did u get this article from?
Dubai-Lover October 24th, 2004, 08:25 PM tradearabia news, good source

Dubai-Lover October 24th, 2004, 09:37 PM yep this website is abit messed up and confusing

Bahraini Spirit October 24th, 2004, 10:07 PM tradearabia is excellent, one of the best sites u can get for information, in some ways its even better than ameinfo, but what i meant is that everytime you hear a different number of floors. In one article i read, they want to rename the project and brand it as Bahrain World Trade Center and they said it was 50 floors, so hehe we'll have to wait and c, hopefully it stays 240 m.
Dubai-Lover October 24th, 2004, 11:08 PM yes, number of floors is not that important
240 is important :)
TinTin October 27th, 2004, 05:11 PM There is a feasibility study being done on the turbines, and there is a very good chance that they will be completed at the same time the towers are complete
Dubai-Lover October 27th, 2004, 06:30 PM seems like atkins are the only ones that propose such a power supply

Bahraini Spirit October 28th, 2004, 06:50 AM WORK has started on two new 42-storey office blocks and more than 100 new shops at the Bahrain Commercial Complex. Construction is now underway on the twin tower development, which is due to be completed in the summer of 2006.
Meanwhile, the City Gardens shopping centre Retail Tenants Forum discussed ways of co-operating at its first meeting at the Sheraton Hotel.
The forum has been implemented by DTZ Bahrain, the centre's new property management company appointed by the owners, to improve interaction between the tenants and the owners.
DTZ property management head Cliff Langford said the forum gave tenants the opportunity to work together to create strategies for promoting the centre both locally and regionally.
Mr Langford attended the meeting in an advisory role, along with Carol Melrose, managing director of Contact Communications, which has been appointed marketing consultant for the complex.
Mr Langford said it was important for tenants use the forum as a platform to air their views about the running of the centre and to provide new ideas for its development.
"At the same time, the centre is under development and the facilities being added will ensure that it will maintain its position of being the most exclusive mall in Bahrain," he said.
A new promotion planned for the mall was also discussed.
The association will encourage all tenants to become members and work towards mutually agreed strategic objectives.
The forum will be working with Contact Communications to implement a unified owner and tenant marketing and promotion strategy.
Bahraini Spirit October 28th, 2004, 07:34 AM apparently it's 42 stories now so I wonder what happened to the height???? I've got a bad feeling about this.
TinTin October 28th, 2004, 10:15 AM It is still 42 storeys and still 240m high and there won't be any change
Bahraini Spirit October 28th, 2004, 01:12 PM thanks tintin, say do u work in the sheraton or dtz? If so, am just wonderin how far did the project reach at the moment. Thanks for keeping us updated. So now I'd reckon the Bahrain Financial Harbour towers want to be taller than that since they always mention that they want to be the tallest. Any idea tintin of how high the bfh dual towers will be, cause they never mentioned? Thanks again.
TinTin October 28th, 2004, 05:15 PM the basement has been excavated and half the piles for the towers have been completed. I have no idea of how high the BFH will be, but I believe that its not as high. As for my knowledge of the project, I am the project designer.
Dubai-Lover October 28th, 2004, 05:27 PM i suppose too they will at same range

New twin towers to house Bahrain World Trade Centre

Robin Williamson (left) unveils the BWTC model
Manama
A new twin-tower complex coming up in Bahrain's capital Manama has been named Bahrain World Trade Centre following an agreement with the World Trade Centre Association.
Construction is now under way on the new $150 million landmark office and retail development located on the Bahrain Commercial Complex (BCC) site and adjacent to the Sheraton Hotel in the heart of Manama.
unveiling a model of the development, Robin Williamson, general manager of DTZ, the marketing and leasing agent for the development property, said the twin 50-storey towers will become the tallest buildings in central Manama.
The 240-metre high commercial office buildings will provide 43 storeys of leaseable space. It also houses an extended retail centre which adds 148 more units to the existing City Gardens Mall as well as the opportunity to include top quality restaurants.
The complex will provide a total of approximately 120,961 sq m of space. The towers will rise above a podium which will have a retail area.
The Sheraton Hotel, which will form a component of the BWTC, will undergo an extensive facelift, to provide catering and conference facilities along with leisure and fine dining amenities.
There will be 1,700 parking lots in the complex, he said.
Already two clients have committed to sign up as tenants at the complex and more are showing interest, said Williamson.
A worldwide marketing campaign to attract high quality tenants will be launched soon, he said.
He said a representative of the World Trade Centre management will visit Bahrain later this month to meet with the owners and discuss details of the operation and the extensive services offered by the organisation. In addition plans will be implemented for managing the centre.
Nass-Murray & Roberts joint venture is the main contractor on the project.
Piling work is currently ongoing and work on the superstructure will start by the end of this month. The project will be completed in June 2006, said David Evans, project director of Nass-Murray & Roberts.-TradeArabia News Service
Bahraini Spirit November 1st, 2004, 03:39 PM just read that article, that's good news to hear an official info launch about the project. Well about the naming, although it's been used for tons of other projects, it's better for marketing purposes as the World Trade Center is an already established and well known brand. I thought the price was $80 million initially rather than $150 million, but I suppose it's logical since $80 million isn't quite enough for a project of this scope. I heard about a project called the Pearl Towers also in the pipeline and that will cost $150 million, hmm I hope it's not this one though.

CONSTRUCTION is underway on what is to become Bahrain's tallest building, the twin towers of the Bahrain World Trade Centre (BWTC), scheduled for completion in 2006.
The building, on the Bahrain Commercial Complex (BCC) site and adjacent to the Sheraton Hotel in the heart of Manama, will house office and retail space.
It will be affiliated to the World Trade Centre Association (WTCA), which is a non-profit, non-political organisation, which fosters international trade and provides services to international investors.
The design comprises twin 50-storey towers, each of which is over 240 metres high.
The total area is around 120,961 metres square. In total, the development will incorporate 1,700 car parking spaces, providing a high ratio of spaces for both office tenants, visitors and shoppers.
DTZ Bahrain, which has been appointed marketing and leasing agents, will be offering the property's retail space to top-end retailers in order to maintain its exclusivity.
It will include 248 units ranging from 22 to 196 square metres, including a high quality dining area. Office spaces will be available on floors six to 39 with areas ranging from 294 to 1,142 sqm
A model of the development was unveiled to the Press at the BCC yesterday.
DTZ general manager Robin Williamson said that the building would enhance Bahrain's position as a commercial hub for trade in the Middle East.
A representative of the World Trade Centre management will be visiting Bahrain this month to meet the owners of the building and discuss details of the operation and the services offered by the organisation.
The centre's management said that it plans to unveil a strong plan of action aimed at ensuring that local businesses obtain the maximum benefit from its activities.
The centre adds to the 148 units existing at the City Gardens mall.
The Sheraton Hotel, which will form a component of the BWTC, will undergo an extensive facelift to provide catering and conference facilities along with leisure and fine dining outlets.
Almoayyed Tower, at Seef, is currently the tallest building in Bahrain at 173 metres, or 47 storeys.
Bahraini Spirit November 2nd, 2004, 10:48 AM the height of the bahrain financial harbour towers will be approximately 260 m as given from a person workin in the project so that should make them the tallest buildings. The height is not bad at all, kinda like 2 21st century towers.
Trances November 2nd, 2004, 12:32 PM now these are the ones i would have wanted for dubai
gland then ended up some where worth while
Dubai-Lover November 2nd, 2004, 05:06 PM how come this one is now maybe 260?
Bahraini Spirit November 2nd, 2004, 05:41 PM no dubai-lover, I meant the dual towers in the financial harbour are approximately 260 m as I've been told by someone that works there (no exact height though), so they should be taller by a bit than those. Am hopin that that figure is not to the spire but I think it is, let's not hope so hehe.
Dubai-Lover November 2nd, 2004, 07:25 PM sorry, mixed it up :wallbash:
260 is great but not enough :D
once again the only thing we can do is hope and wait
Bahraini Spirit November 2nd, 2004, 09:50 PM well anythin over 150 m for bahrain is great but now since we're gettin 4 towers over 200 m, anythin over 250 will be sweet. I hope we'll get a 300 m tower within the next few years. We're slowly gettin there ;)
Bahraini Spirit November 3rd, 2004, 04:12 PM The official website is: www.bahrainwtc.com
Trances November 3rd, 2004, 04:18 PM still great to hear

A new era in the Kingdom’s development is underway and will soon be complimented by the introduction of The Bahrain World Trade Centre.
Located on the Bahrain Commercial Complex (BCC) site and adjacent to the Sheraton Hotel in the heart of Manama, construction is underway for a new landmark office and retail development. To be branded and operated as the Bahrain World Trade Centre, completion is planned for summer 2006.
A prestigious landmark for any country, the Bahrain World Trade Centre (BWTC) will have a particularly high profile in the Kingdom and add prominence to the Manama skyline. Its unique design comprising twin 50 storey iconic towers will become the tallest buildings in central Manama.
DTZ, one of the world’s largest firms of international property advisers has been appointed as the marketing and leasing agents for the development. Over the coming months they will embark on a worldwide marketing campaign to attract high quality tenants, which will involve their international network of offices. Interest in both the retail and office elements of the development has already been encouragingly high.
Robin Williamson, General Manager of DTZ commented, “We are delighted to be able to make this announcement which reinforces Bahrain’s commercial strengths and enhances its’ position as a major commercial hub for trade in the Middle East and the global economy as a whole.”
More than a building or an organization, the World Trade Centre group, established in 1970, stands outside politics and moves across national boundaries in service to those who wish to develop and facilitate international trade. The organisation brings together exporters, importers and service providers who offer essential trade services and consequently help to stimulate the economy of the region it serves.

As well as the new twin tower commercial office building providing 43 storeys of lettable space, the development houses an extended retail centre which adds 148 more units to the existing City Gardens mall as well as the opportunity to include top quality restaurants. Mr Kotvis said the BWTC will be linked to all the other centres worldwide, giving tenants of all WTCs access to information about Bahrain.

DTZ real estates services company was the first international property advisor to be established in the Gulf with an office in Bahrain in 1975, and has recently re-established its offices in Manama following its appointment to manage the Bahrain World Trade Centre (BWTC). The appointment was made due to DTZ's proven highly sophisticated and successful strategies, utilised world wide, in serving investors, occupiers and developers across all sectors of the real estate market as well as its proven experience across a highly sophisticated global client base.
The BWTC, which was announced on the 1st of November 2004, is set to be one of Bahrain's most spectacular landmarks housing an extended retail centre which will double the size of the existing Bahrain Commercial Complex mall, as well as and offer 51,000 sq. mtrs. of prime office space in the towers which will each be 50 storeys high.
DTZ is tasked with the promotion and marketing of the BWTC and managing its development as the leading trade and retail centre in Bahrain after its construction, which is due to be completed in the summer of 2006.
Dubai-Lover January 16th, 2005, 11:27 AM finally some more good news on this one
seems like it will be a nice place!
Bahraini Spirit January 16th, 2005, 02:09 PM good, we need the mall to be good. The existing mall is also being renovated and i think the hotel will also be refurbished, basically i think the whole existing complex will be renewed in some sort of way, so that it integrates nicely with this.
Bahraini Spirit January 18th, 2005, 09:49 PM Within months of having broken ground, the iconic 50-storey twin-tower Bahrain World Trade Centre (BWTC) is rapidly rising above two leaf-shaped footprints at the Bahrain Commercial Complex, adjacent to the Sheraton Hotel.
Standing at more than 240 m in height, the spectacular twin towers are expected to be the tallest in Bahrain when completed in June 2006.
The BWTC, which is designed to be an intelligent building, will dramatically enhance the skyline while offering more than 35,000 sq m of prime office space over 43 levels. The development will also include almost 150 additional retail units in an extension to the existing mall along with top-quality restaurants, leisure and business facilities.
The Sheraton Hotel, meanwhile, will undergo a complete refurbishment and will also become an integral part of the Bahrain World Trade Centre.
The two towers – dressed in state-of-the art cladding and glazing systems – rise above a podium retail element with decked car-parking. At ground level, the podium provides access to both the office towers as well as the retail area. This then links into an existing retail environment, which has, for the past 25 years, been regarded one of Bahrain’s most exclusive shopping destinations.
The offices – which range in area from 294 sq m to 1,142 sq m – incorporate all modern-day Smart functions to include security, power and telecommunications. In addition, they will feature raised access floor system, VAV air-conditioning, flexible floor plates, communal toilets, communal kitchenettes, impressive entrance lobbies – all enhanced by superb sea views. The retail units – 148 in total – range in size from 22 to 196 sq m in a shell and core condition with glazed frontage each facing a communal mall. An anchor store covering 2,060 sq m on the ground level has a 374 sq m basement storage space.
An official ground-breaking ceremony for the project took place in August with Nass Murray and Roberts – a joint venture between South African contracting major and the local AA Nass – having taken on the charge of building the landmark. The project has been designed by the architectural firm Atkins. Hisham Abdulrahman Jaffar (HAJ) is the client’s representative and cost manager while DTZ, the international property adviser, will head the letting and management of the BWTC.
At its full strength the current workforce will increase to between 1,400 and 1,500 labourers. Nass Murray and Roberts has already launched procurement works for major subcontract packages such as lifts, cladding and MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) services.
Tabreed Bahrain has been selected to provide the district cooling system for the project. Under a 25-year contract, the firm will provide 3,800 tonnes of refrigeration to the BWTC.
“Work on the project is progressing as per schedule,” Nizar Ahmed, the chartered quantity surveyor with HAJ, told Gulf Construction.
Among the innovative plans for the BWTC is a project to incorporate wind turbines to generate power for the complex.
Ahmed explains: “A feasibility study – due for completion next month – is being conducted through a specialist consultant to look into the possibility of utilising wind turbines within the project. If the report is positive, the owners of the Bahrain World Trade Centre aim to procure and install three wind turbines connecting the two towers.
“If it goes ahead, this will be the first building in the region to have such a unique feature. The wind turbines are expected to generate sufficient power to cater to the service areas. This initiative reflects the owners’ concern to save Bahrain’s energy resources."
Plans for the BWTC will make it more than just an office building; it is set to become Bahrain’s most prestigious address, offering tenants and visitors a complete business environment, incorporating extensive facilities to develop and enhance trade opportunities, as well as providing technically sophisticated commercial services, meeting rooms and conference facilities.
Traditionally, the 300-plus World Trade Centres in more than 100 countries have a strong profile, attracting business investment and relationships and enhancing the commercial environment of the cities in which they are situated. They are all linked to the World Trade Centre Association.
Robin Williamson, general manager of DTZ, comments: “We are proud to be moving on with this project at an impressive pace. The Bahrain World Trade Centre will reinforce Bahrain's commercial strengths and enhance its position as a major commercial hub for trade and finance in the Middle East and the global market place.”
Sheraton facelift
In line with the construction of the twin towers, various upgrade and refurbishment works have been planned at Sheraton Bahrain, says Ahmed. The external works includes construction of a multi-storey car-park building for 200 vehicles adjoining the hotel, a facelift of the main entrance and construction of a linkway from the hotel to the shopping complex.
The entire external facade of the hotel will be treated so as to match the adjoining developments.
“Internally, the lobbies, guest rooms and ballrooms will undergo refurbishment commencing immediately after the Formula One race scheduled for April 2005,” says Ahmed. “The capacity of the Iranian restaurant and the health club will be increased to meet the demand.
A covered Garden Court will be constructed between the hotel and the twin-tower complex and the main lobby of the hotel – which overlooks the Court – will be extended.
The entire works are expected to complete by May 2006 along with the BWTC project.
The owner has appointed Decovar Orient as the interior designer for the project while WS Atkins and HAJ are extending similar services to the upgrade as on the towers project.
Nass Murray and Roberts are also involved in the external works of the hotel.
Tenders for the internal refurbishment works are expected to be issued in the first quarter of this year.
The work on the car park is in progress and the remaining works will follow on as per the construction plan. In total, the development will incorporate 1,700 car-parking spaces providing a high ratio of spaces for both office tenants, visitors and shoppers.
Dubai-Lover January 25th, 2005, 01:21 PM Solid start for Bahrain World Trade Centre
DTZ Bahrain, international property advisors commissioned by the owning company to head the letting and management of the Bahrain World Trade Centre (BWTC) gave details yesterday of the largest concrete pour ever to take place in Bahrain, with USD 1million dollars worth of concrete pouring into the East tower foundations of the BWTC in a record time of 20 hours.
http://www.ameinfo.com/images/news/1/11421-dtz.jpg
The construction site of the BWTC.
Joint venture firm Nass-Murray & Roberts who have been appointed as the contractors for the BWTC undertook the Kingdom's construction milestone.
The BWTC, a 50-storey, twin tower commercial office development is currently under construction adjacent to the Sheraton Hotel in Manama and is due for completion in the summer of 2006.
The record, which was set in conjunction with Delmon Readymix Concrete, saw 4,000 m3 of concrete poured in one single operation within 20 hours, a record event for construction in Bahrain. This improved on a similar pour which was made into the West Tower 12 days prior which took 24 hours.
To complete the record pour Delmon Readymix had to handle 1,600 tons of cement, 7,400 tons of stone/sand and 16,000 litres of admixture. The volume of water required for mixing the concrete was equal to two years consumption for a large private villa. Prior to the concreting Nass-Murray & Roberts had to place 730 tons of steel reinforcement to this foundation.
Mr Samir A Nass, Managing Director of Nass Group on achieving this amazing record said: 'Nass- Murray & Roberts is a top construction team which is currently handling some of the most ambitious construction projects in Bahrain. The team worked really hard to undertake create this record setting a difficult standard to improve on for our company. However, we will, of course, endeavour to better that time at the next opportunity.'
Work is progressing on schedule for the BWTC to be completed by the deadlines set and over the next two weeks the two climbing tower cranes will be erected, followed by the main tower crane which will be erected 80 meters high on the first lift. The control cabin of this crane will be higher than the current office tower – the Bahrain Commercial Complex.
The vertical formwork for the West Tower is already assembled and anyone driving past the site on King Faisal Highway will soon notice the structure rising from behind the advertisement boards.
In Bahrain the World Trade Centre will dominate the Manama skyline and is a much-anticipated, prestigious business address. As well as the new twin tower commercial office building of over 50 storeys, the development will house an extended retail centre doubling the amount of stores in the existing Bahrain Commercial Complex mall as well as adding some top quality restaurants. The adjacent Sheraton Hotel will also undergo major renovations and will become an integral part of the new complex.
The BWTC will be part of the Word Trade Centre Association established in 1970, which boasts 284 members associations in 77 countries, all involved in the development or operation of World Trade Centres servicing more than 750,000 international trading corporations.

As you can see, construction is soo fast on this one, you can see changes everyday on it. I'd reckon within 3 months, this should be atleast at the 10th floor, should provide a nice view from the road and from riffa where you can see all of manama. I'll get a shot of that in the summer when am back.
Krazy February 12th, 2005, 11:21 PM Great pictures! The holes are of very unique shape indeed, should be very interesting this project at 240m !
Bahraini Spirit February 14th, 2005, 04:34 AM ^ Ya the bases of the two towers are leaf-shaped footprints, that's why it's different and unique from your other typical towers. We'll keep ya updated with new pics in a few weeks time.
Moody February 16th, 2005, 07:28 PM Hi,
Bahraini Spirit, First, Hi... secondly, I agree with you about the location prefrence with all the history we have in Bahrain being the beating heart of the Gulf for centuries. However, as per Seef, it is still under development. i.e still recalmation is under process which might not comply with the fact that BFH is on a costal site. however BFH idea emerged from the fact that Bahrain was a Hot spot for trade and they are building on that history. therefore BFH location convays this history to potential investors and to the rest of the world. our country has a very rich country...Historically, however looking for greater opportunity for its future.
BFH's location however will definitly increase trafic in the already busy area, for that seef has a favourable location.
Just wanted to share my thought with you guys, as a\i have been following this forum for about 4 months and have just joined.

Bahraini Spirit February 16th, 2005, 08:00 PM ^ Welcome, we have a new Bahraini forumer with us here :) Hehe this is the Bahrain World Trade Center thread but it's cool ;)
I know when talk about the traffic, I can just imagine what'll happen when that thing is finished. A lot of institutions want to relocate and I heard the BIBF will move there also, so they need to draw a plan for road developments there and I think they already know that somethin needs to be done.
Here is some info about the location:
-The development is situated on the 'Gateway to Bahrain' which has a marked presence on Bahrain's seascape and is seen prominently from the King Faisal Highway.
-Bahrain Financial Harbour is 10-15 minutes from Bahrain International Airport and 15-20 minutes from the King Fahad Causeway.
Ok let's get back to the BWTC now hehe we'll post that stuff in the BFH thread.

Bahraini Spirit March 9th, 2005, 12:15 PM Anytime. Look out for the next one in a month's time :).
SkyFan March 9th, 2005, 07:11 PM NICE NICE
Soon Bahrain will have a neat skyline.
How far is this broject from BFH??
Bahraini Spirit March 9th, 2005, 07:17 PM I'd say a 1 km or so away, not far off. I do agree, the skyline will be really neat with all those towers completed especially from Muharraq when you're comin on the bridge or Riffa near the wadi where you got a complete view of the manama skyline.
SkyFan March 9th, 2005, 07:23 PM You know, in some days I could see Bharain from all the way in my office in Dhahran. But I can only see Al Moaid tower and some other smaller towers. I'm sure the view is going to look much better. Maybe it'll look like a middle eastern big apple :)
Moody March 9th, 2005, 07:46 PM Ohh.. can you see us from Saudi !!!
Bahraini Spirit March 9th, 2005, 07:59 PM We can see you too, on a clear day even from the National Bank of Bahrain tower, you can see Saudi Arabia. You'll see more in the summer hehe.
SkyFan March 9th, 2005, 08:55 PM About a month ago we had a very clear day. Ever the low rise building were visible from my office.
I even saw the people walking down the streets J/K :p
Dubai-Lover March 9th, 2005, 11:30 PM just one question
as you've said the wtc is only 1km away from bfh
what will be built in between? or is there the current downtown and skyline?
Bahraini Spirit March 10th, 2005, 03:30 AM I'll find a really good map or pic to demonstrate the exact location. I'll do that in the morning as it's very late now.
Bahraini Spirit March 10th, 2005, 03:45 AM Ok I've decided to do it now. The answer to your question is that an existing skyline is there and newer buildings are being built.
This pic is a few years old but this will suffice for this explanatory purpose (sorry for the small pic):
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid160/p807e59ee171b2c8ddedf25c96c99de5e/f4e15339.jpg
From left to right, the following is written:
- Some new towers completed here
- Bahrain World Trade Center
- Zamil Tower (nearly completed)
- Bahrain Financial Harbour
Hope this helps.
Dubai-Lover March 10th, 2005, 07:06 AM yes, thanks a lot! :)
it's hard to imagine a cityscape when you've never been there
i hope this area will get some more quality towers like we have in bfh
i see a huge potential for a great skyline!
Bahraini Spirit March 10th, 2005, 12:30 PM The towers that are being built are very nice actually, maybe not that tall, but the designs are good. Come end 2006, skyline should get a major facelift.
Dubai-Lover March 21st, 2005, 01:21 PM Manama skyline changing rapidly with tallest fast track building on schedule for completion
Take a last look at the Manama skyline as it exists today, for it is about to change completely with the rapid emergence of the Bahrain World Trade Centre (BWTC) which can now be seen rising above the hoardings around the grounds of the Bahrain Commercial Complex adjacent to the Sheraton Hotel.
The BWTC, a 50-storey, twin tower development is currently under construction and making rapid progress as a 'fast track' development, meaning that the building should be completed by its scheduled date of June 2006.
A picture released today by DTZ Bahrain, International Property Advisers advising on the project, shows the rapid development of the BWTC in only 6 months. The pictures show the progression of foundations in three stages, firstly as they were in December 2004 showing the initial footprint of the two towers clearly in place; the second showing the foundations near completion when Bahrain undertook its largest concrete pour to complete them in December, and the third more recently shows the rising towers as they are now, emphasising the speed at which this development is progressing.
Not only will the completion of the BWTC mean a change to Manama skyline with twin towers standing at 240 metres in height, but it will also bring with it 34 floors of tenantable office space in each tower as well as an expansion of the existing exclusive shopping venue of the Bahrain Commercial Complex to more than double its current size. In addition the Sheraton Hotel will be re-furbished to become an integral part of the BWTC.
Plans for the Bahrain WTC will make it more than just an office building; it is set to become Bahrain's most prestigious commercial address, offering tenants and visitors a complete business environment incorporating extensive facilities to develop and enhance trade opportunities, as well as providing technically sophisticated commercial services, meeting rooms and conference facilities. Traditionally World Trade Centres the world over have a strong profile, attracting business investment and relationships and enhancing the commercial environment of the cities in which they are situated.
International property consultant DTZ has been appointed to lease the 50-storey twin tower development, and will also be responsible for ensuring the centre is effectively managed by an experienced management team.
Claire Hughes, Associate Director of DTZ commented, "We are keen to show the rest of the world what Bahrain can achieve when it puts its mind to it. The rate of the construction phase really is a credit to the lead contractors, Nass Murray & Roberts, and to everyone else involved on the project team. We also have a great opportunity to showcase Bahrain's strong commercial abilities and develop them through the World Trade Centre Association which will allow local businesses to reach 750,000 businesses worldwide.'
She added, 'We are proud to be involved in this impressive project which is very much on schedule for completion and will offer the most prestigious business address in Bahrain. The Bahrain World Trade Centre will be a landmark for the Kingdom of Bahrain and for the region, reinforcing its commercial strengths and enhancing its position as a major commercial hub for trade and finance in the Middle East and the global market place.'
Bahrain is set to benefit from the link with more than 300 World Trade Centres in over 100 countries all linked through World Trade Centre Association. Established in 1970, The WTCA moves across national boundaries offering opportunities to those who wish to develop and facilitate international trade bringing together exporters, importers and service providers who offer essential trade services and consequently help to stimulate the economy of the region it serves.
DTZ is a leading global real estate services company providing a full range of services on a local, regional and international level to investors, occupiers and owners across all sectors of the real estate market. The company has over 8,000 staff operating from 42 different countries worldwide.
Bahraini Spirit March 22nd, 2005, 01:52 AM This project is goin up at an unprecedented speed. It changes every day. Give it a couple more months and it'll start showin properly.

Dubai-Lover April 2nd, 2005, 12:11 PM Bahrain WTC is due for completion June 2006
The 50-storey twin-tower Bahrain World Trade Centre development is currently under construction and making rapid progress, and looks set for completion by its scheduled date of June 2006.
The complex can now be seen rising above the hoardings around the grounds next to the Sheraton Hotel. The foundations have progressed in three stages: The initial footprint of the two towers was put in place by December 2004; the foundations then neared completion when Bahrain undertook its largest concrete pour later that month. The third stage is the present and shows the towers as they are now, emphasising the speed at which this development is progressing.
“We are keen to show the rest of the world what Bahrain can achieve when it puts its mind to it. The rate of the construction phase really is a credit to the lead contractors, Nass Murray & Roberts, and to everyone else involved on the project team,” says Claire Hughes, associate director of DTZ.
International property consultant DTZ has been appointed to lease the 50-storey twin tower development, and will also be responsible for ensuring that an experienced management team effectively manages the centre.
Not only will the completion of the BWTC mean a change to Manama’s skyline with twin towers standing at 240 m in height, but it will also bring with it 34 floors of leaseable office space in each tower, as well as an expansion of the existing shopping venue of the Bahrain Commercial Complex to more than double its current size. In addition, the Sheraton Hotel will be re-furbished to become an integral part of the Bahrain WTC.
Promoters say the WTC is set to become Bahrain’s “most prestigious commercial address, offering tenants and visitors a complete business environment, incorporating extensive facilities to develop and enhance trade opportunities, as well as providing technically sophisticated commercial services, meeting rooms and conference facilities”. “We have an opportunity to showcase Bahrain’s strong commercial abilities and develop them through the World Trade Centre Association which will allow local businesses to reach 750 000 businesses worldwide,” said Hughes.

Krazy April 4th, 2005, 07:58 PM Tabreed Bahrain to cool BWTC
April 04, 2005
DTZ Bahrain, owners representative for the Bahrain World Trade Centre (BWTC), and Tabreed Bahrain, recently signed a contract under which Tabreed will supply a district cooling solution for the BWTC in the first new major district cooling operation to be set up in over 50 years.
Tabreed will provide chilled water to the BWTC from its District Cooling Plant, The plant is to be specially constructed in the Diplomatic Area in order to offer a cooling solution for the building.
The benefits to the user of a district cooling system are considerable - including lower capital expenditure, cheaper operating costs and considerably better rates of efficiency.
The district cooling systems offers a far more environmentally friendly method of cooling with lower power requirement as well as much lower CO2 emissions.
Dany Safi, managing director of Tabreed Bahrain, on signing the contract said: "This method of cooling buildings is expected to become more popular throughout the Kingdom and Tabreed has already secured forward commitments from 6 major companies. Further sites for Cooling Plants have also been identified in Juffair, Busiteen and Al Seef where demand is high to operate this system."
Tabreed currently operates in the UAE where it supplies over 200,000 tons of chilled water per annum to various businesses in the Emirates.
The agreement was signed in the Bahrain Commercial Complex.

Each building has a part is at around 5th floor while the other side of the building is only at the ground level. they built the slopes already and looks very cool (Za7lagah) hehe
Bahraini Spirit April 10th, 2005, 11:06 PM Ya the vertical part will grow very fast (5th floor) while the bit at the ground floor now is goin to form part of the slope if am not wrong.
Hehe, we'll go for a ride sometime down the buildings.
Moody April 25th, 2005, 09:23 PM This one is rising well now, it is there... looks so sharp, the most amazing i've seen in Bahrain so far.
Bahraini Spirit April 26th, 2005, 08:05 PM Cool, the King Faisal Road should look amazin by the end of 2006 when a lot of new buildings are completed.
Skyline-BRN April 27th, 2005, 03:13 AM hey guys is it just me or does the BTWC webcam not seem to be working anymore? :bash:
Elmahri April 27th, 2005, 08:27 AM the're working 24 7 but i think the part ther'e working on now is the most complicated one and as soon as they finish from it the construction will go very fast
Moody April 27th, 2005, 07:59 PM hey guys is it just me or does the BTWC webcam not seem to be working anymore? :bash:
Off, i know its off line or something since ages ...
But, is it the case with others?? B.S D.L can you get streams of BWTC??
Bahraini Spirit May 1st, 2005, 02:58 PM The link doesn't work at all, I emailed them about the problem, let's see if they'll reply. Anyone back in Bahrain, can you (if you can that is) post a pic of this from street level cause you can't see that from the webcam :D. If not, I'll see it anyways in more or less 3 months.
Moody May 1st, 2005, 08:33 PM Man,
not worthed,
Wait little bit more and I guarantee you will see something to look at !!
ebraheej May 2nd, 2005, 07:09 AM Check this site out..
http://muharraqi-studios.com/
ebraheej May 2nd, 2005, 07:12 AM It has the best rendering of the BWTC and Durrat Al Bahrain around, I tried to upload some pictures but I didnt know how. ;)
Skyline-BRN May 2nd, 2005, 07:41 AM First of all welcome to the forums Ebraheej :). Great find on those renderings, i never knew how much the BWTC would dwarf all the other buildings in Manama!! Its a good thing that they are building BFH or it would have seriously looked out of place!
Anyway if you want to display an image all you have to do is type in this code:
LINK TO THE PICTURE ...so in this case if I was to put the url http://muharraqi-studios.com/BAHRAIN-WORLD-TRADE-CENTER/cover.jpg as the link then it would come out as this..... :okay:
http://muharraqi-studios.com/BAHRAIN-WORLD-TRADE-CENTER/cover.jpg
Elmahri May 2nd, 2005, 10:14 AM wow.. this is so nice especialy Durrat Bahrain
Qatar4Ever May 2nd, 2005, 10:45 AM Beatiful...
Bahraini Spirit May 2nd, 2005, 01:11 PM Welcome ebraheej. Man didn't know Muharraqi had a website. I'd have to say, that guy has world class talent, runs in the blood of the family. Well I found a new background for my laptop (that is when it's back from repair hehe). Here are more for the others who didn't visit the link.

Qatar4Ever May 2nd, 2005, 01:25 PM These twin towers can easily become the worlds most beatiful twins.. im serious.. just amazing..
Skyline-BRN May 2nd, 2005, 04:36 PM hey guys do u think those renderings are accurate in terms of scale?? Cus if you look at the zamil tower it is about four times smaller than the BWTC....so in relative terms this would make the twin towers about 400m!
Elmahri May 2nd, 2005, 05:41 PM if you see the first picture you'll find Al Zamil tower which is 22 st. is in the same hight of GIB which is 11st.
Dubai-Lover May 2nd, 2005, 05:49 PM great renders
i'm curious about the blue
will it really have the great ice-blue color? hopefully!
Moody May 2nd, 2005, 07:34 PM Hi B.S,
These are the amazing pictures i have told you about (on the F1 days) I tried finding this guys site on the net but i think Skyline BRN was smarter than me :)
These are cool, but what i have noticed is that the scale is not correct, the twins look larger than realty as compared to the existing buildings, are are so much to the left side towards GIB, which isn't the case !
anyone dissagrees?
Moody May 2nd, 2005, 07:37 PM Ohh not skyline is who found it,
and i mean the last pic is missscaled only not all,,
Bahraini Spirit May 2nd, 2005, 07:48 PM They are larger than life size, but it's great to see how the skyline will look like with those in. For Al Zamil tower, it's the distance away from the BWTC as compared to the GIB, which makes it look shorter than real life.
Accually, ebraheej our newest member found the website.
Moody May 2nd, 2005, 08:03 PM What a name,
HE means Ebraheem ??
Bahraini Spirit May 2nd, 2005, 08:14 PM No idea you can ask him hehe.
Moody May 2nd, 2005, 08:19 PM That cant be a human being name, must be from MarS,
Thanks Ebraheeej or Ebraheem, for the coool pics,
Keep up the good work, and let us see you around many times a day..
B-Patriot May 2nd, 2005, 08:21 PM So many new Bahraini forumers, its nice to see... :colgate:
Soon we will dominate SSC.com, hahaah (evil laugh)
Moody May 2nd, 2005, 08:24 PM Yeah, hope they remain, how about we tell our friends to join?
Good idea??
Bahraini Spirit May 2nd, 2005, 08:48 PM If they'll contribute, why not.
Moody May 2nd, 2005, 08:51 PM Else?? hehe
Bahraini Spirit May 2nd, 2005, 08:52 PM Up to you, I don't mind hehe, hmm or else :D.
Skyline-BRN May 2nd, 2005, 09:04 PM yeah plenty of new bahraini forumers...good thing to see enthusiatic members from back home!! I have to say im quite impressed with the way this forum is going, if you compare our forum to that of Qatar for example we have almost triple their posts!! well hopefully they get more active as Doha is booming at the moment...Anyway keep up the good work guys. :okay:
NOW LETS GET BACK TO TOPIC
:dj:
Dubai-Lover May 2nd, 2005, 10:49 PM but therefore qatar has more projects going on :D
was that kinda rude? sorry ;)
consider the size of the country and how many nationals we have here
great the forums pays off more and more :)
ebraheej May 3rd, 2005, 12:22 AM Guys I am here to stay, I have been looking for forums that discuss upcoming projects in Bahrain, and I finally found it.
BTW its ebraheej ;), my real name is Ebrahim.
Bahraini Spirit May 5th, 2005, 06:26 PM I posted this on the 8th of March, to all u guys in Bahrain, is there a big change from this (assuming the slopes are startin to show now)?
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid160/p001c7d57603d222d589b13ef6903234d/f4e43c26.jpg
And I can confirm again, the webcam ain't workin and I didn't get a reply from them so no idea if it'll come back. Someone needs to go and tell them or they just took it offline on purpose for some reason.
RafflesCity May 5th, 2005, 08:03 PM it seems very active there, and it looks awesome in the skyline rendering..really dominates everything else
Bahraini Spirit May 5th, 2005, 08:13 PM Am sure it's even more active now, that pic is just about 2 months old now. This should be completed in a record time.
Man about that render, if we can ever get one with the BFH and this plus the other towers, that'll be awesome.
Moody May 6th, 2005, 01:25 PM Humm this one x 3 approxx
Bahraini Spirit May 6th, 2005, 07:46 PM * 3 in two months, hey that's nice. Cool, keep us updated on this one's progress :).
Bahraini Spirit May 17th, 2005, 07:24 PM Lead contractors Nass Murray & Roberts are happy to announce a fantastic 1,000,000 accident free man hours on the Bahrain World Trade Centre construction site.
With 500 workmen on site 24 hours a day this is a great achievement and ensures the development will be a standard bearer for the future of construction in Bahrain.
Moody May 21st, 2005, 12:58 AM Exactly as expected,
They have accelerated work, its going up crazy these days!!
RafflesCity May 21st, 2005, 12:30 PM does this project have any basement level?
Moody May 21st, 2005, 12:50 PM does this project have any basement level?
Yes it has a basement, don't kknow exactly for what purpose, maybe a car park..or a store, since there is a shopping mall linking the two towers.
You may see it in some of the older pics!
RafflesCity May 22nd, 2005, 07:47 AM oh..then this project reminds me of the project in my avatar, it has also one basement.
Its cool how you can see the footprints of the project laid out on the ground.
so this building is reinforced concrete?
Moody May 22nd, 2005, 09:04 AM 100% concrete I have not seen any red metal yet!
Moody May 22nd, 2005, 09:05 AM what about your avator? what is it? and is it built yet?
khalood87 May 22nd, 2005, 01:34 PM so moody..u said that they actually show how many floors are completed if i just pass by on the road next to regency???
Bahraini Spirit May 22nd, 2005, 08:21 PM what about your avator? what is it? and is it built yet?
That's in Singapore, the sail at marina bay and it's due for completion in 2009.
so moody..u said that they actually show how many floors are completed if i just pass by on the road next to regency???
He meant the BFH if am not wrong not this one.
While we're here, what floor is this on by any chance?
khalood87 May 22nd, 2005, 08:34 PM yeah you are right bahraini spirit..i just get mixed up with the two projects...so is that what u meant moody?
Bahraini Spirit June 2nd, 2005, 12:16 AM Ok fellas, here we go a night shot, this one is really risin especially for us who can't see it or who haven't seen it for months:
Last time i posted (6th of march):

Skyline-BRN June 2nd, 2005, 12:30 AM Nice progress...I can see some sky bridges, thats gonna be really cool...i dunno r they bridges? :tongue4:
B-Patriot June 2nd, 2005, 12:52 AM This one seems to be a bit slow, when compared to BFH's Dual Towers..
Waleed June 2nd, 2005, 01:02 AM This project looks awesome!
Elmahri June 2nd, 2005, 08:24 AM This one seems to be a bit slow, when compared to BFH's Dual Towers..
It's not slow at all, BFH started months before this project and i think the design of these towers is really complicated
Moody June 3rd, 2005, 06:47 PM Web cam is back! good news
khalood87 June 5th, 2005, 08:42 PM what do you mean by webcam??? what's it for?
Moody June 5th, 2005, 08:49 PM When you visit www.bahrainwtc.com, you can see ongoing construction live from Manama..
khalood87 June 5th, 2005, 08:59 PM wow...this is amazing mashalla...this is exactly what i need..thanks man

RafflesCity June 16th, 2005, 04:10 AM its rising real fast!
B-Patriot June 17th, 2005, 12:31 AM I'm back in Bahrain...I won't post so frequently during the next few days, until i get the house's local network extended to my room....I passed by BWTC, and its still not soo tall, but BFH is amazing...It's almost at 20 now, and it has really changed the skyline...However BWTC, like i said, is not soo noticeable...The buildings, the individual towers, are sorta slim, not soo big....
Elmahri June 19th, 2005, 01:06 PM Just want to share some information, Murray and Robert is the company which constructing BWTC. it's one of the best companies in the world as they have constructed the most well known projects such as Burj Al Arab, Petronas twin towers in Malysia, Burj Dubai, and many other huge projects around the world. that shows the standard of BWTC construction. check out Murray and Roberts sites:

Moody June 19th, 2005, 01:10 PM Thanks for the update Maher:) the mentioned company is really well known.. my hope is to see full project taking shape on/before schedled time.
bahraini_87 July 5th, 2005, 02:08 PM i think bahrain world trade centre towers maybecome the tallest building in bahrain next year ..

bahraini_87 July 7th, 2005, 02:13 PM Hi guys ...
I have one quastion for this towers ..
my Quastion : are the Bwtc towers well be tha tallest buidling in Bahrain ??
- "because i think its taller than Bfh towers" - .
cazanova July 7th, 2005, 03:59 PM nope BFH is taller......bfh/bwtc 53/50
bahraini_87 July 7th, 2005, 04:13 PM ahaa thanks brother :) ..
but we are looking at the length of the towers depending on its meters and not the number of floors , and by this consideration i dont think there is much difrrence between the Bwtc towers and Bfh towers ..
bahraini_87 July 7th, 2005, 04:18 PM I took these picture on the 19th of May 2005 ..
http://www.elislam.net/up/pic/sfd.jpg
http://www.elislam.net/up/pic/wow.jpg
B-Patriot July 8th, 2005, 06:19 PM I'm pretty sure BFH will be taller...But not by much i would imagine...The actual building itself might very well be shorter, but since it has a spire and BWTC doesn't, it'll most probably end up being taller....
RafflesCity July 9th, 2005, 01:10 AM wow its amazing seeing it rising and its form taking shape!
Moody July 9th, 2005, 10:56 AM Thanks, its almost double this size now ,, somewhere on 11th floor while BFH is on 24
khalood87 July 20th, 2005, 04:38 PM people!!! keep updating us with pics plZ... :) thanks alot
B-Patriot July 26th, 2005, 12:07 PM Well the BWTC is somewhere on the 12th floor, and its construction seems to be picking up the pace, whereas BFH seems to be on the 28th floor...
Bahraini Spirit July 26th, 2005, 11:08 PM Hey fellas again, just got back to Bahrain a few days ago. It's nice to be back and see the changes although I'd have to admit, the humidity sucks.
Anyways, hello to our new members, welcome aboard and it's lovely seeing contributions. I'll definately be takin some shots and posting them here as I already promised from before. I'll be away for most of August but before then, expect some stuff from me.
And to clarify a point, BFH is taller by 20 m than the BWTC thanks to the spire.
Moody July 26th, 2005, 11:11 PM BS, Missed you alot! our big brother haha,,,
welcome back :)
Moody July 28th, 2005, 12:04 AM The buildings are in perfect shape now, time to post a pic...

Bahraini Spirit September 6th, 2005, 10:33 AM Pics taken today (18 floors completed):

vc15nets September 6th, 2005, 08:18 PM How far is the National Bank of Bahrain building from BWTC and BFH?
Bahraini Spirit September 6th, 2005, 10:47 PM Hey, well if you look at post 194 (last pic), the tall building to the right of the pic with the blue glass and spire is the NBB tower and it's right opposite to the BFH. Hopefully this helps :).
vc15nets September 7th, 2005, 12:05 PM Its good if NBB is close to BWTC because it would create a great skyline all the way from Abraj Al Lulu to BFH to NBB and BWTC.
Almoayyed will be very lonely, away from the upcoming skyline.
Bahraini Spirit September 7th, 2005, 02:47 PM Well I read that there are plans to build towers in the Seef area, but am not sure when. There are investors that have proposed to build, so let's wait and see what comes up. There was also a plan to build another tower next to Almoayyed part of the same project with the car park but not sure if that'll go ahead.
dubaiflo September 7th, 2005, 03:44 PM These are coming along nicely.
could indeed be done by end of 2006!
great for bahrain!
Bahraini Spirit September 7th, 2005, 04:15 PM Actually they are planned to be completed in June or July 2006 not the end, that's the first phase of the BFH that's goin to be finished end 2006.

Bahraini Spirit September 13th, 2005, 01:57 PM A world first...
http://gulf-daily-news.com/source/xxviii/177/images/bnew2.jpg
The new Bahrain World Trade Centre (BWTC) will incorporate the first towers in the world to generate their own electricity using wind turbines, it was revealed yesterday. It will harness wind power to produce about 35 per cent of its requirements.Three wind turbines, each supported by a 30-metre bridge spanning between the two towers, will be installed at a cost of BD1 million.
The "wing" profile of the towers will channel the airflow through the turbines, said DTZ Middle East regional manager Robin Williamson.
"The BWTC will become the first building of its kind in the world to integrate turbines with a commercial tower structure," he told a Press conference.
The BWTC's uniq-ue architecture has been inspired by traditional Arabian wind towers, said W S Atkins and Partners Overseas principal design architect Shaun Killa. The BD35m BWTC is scheduled for completion in summer next year.
Bahraini Spirit September 13th, 2005, 02:08 PM THE BD35 million Bahrain World Trade Centre (BWTC) will become the first building of its kind in the world to use wind power for energy production, it was revealed yesterday.
Three wind turbines will be installed at a cost of BD1 million, officials told a Press conference at the Sheraton Tower.
The BWTC building has been designed to harness the onshore breeze of the Gulf using three massive turbines, said Shaun Killa, Atkins principal design architect and designer of the building.
The "wing" profile of the towers will channel the airflow through the turbines, improving their function and energy generation output, he explained.
The three turbines, each supported by a 30-metre bridge spanning between the two towers, will be connected to generators and feed power to the building.
This will reduce load on external power sources and mean financial benefits to the building occupants, said Mr Killa.
"Atkins' architecture for the BWTC focused on providing an elegant and easily recognisable form for Bahrain's key international business institution," he said.
"It is an internationally accepted fact that developments which embrace solutions for conserving energy and the environment can be commercially sustainable.
"Clean, renewable and without any greenhouse or gas emissions, wind energy has been hailed worldwide as being the future of energy production."
Meanwhile, DTZ Middle East regional manager Robin Williamson said the BWTC would be recognised as a landmark throughout the region.
"The addition of the turbines will further enhance its profile and put it on the global map," he added.
"It is estimated that the turbines will produce about 35 per cent of the total power required for the building.
"As leasing and managing agents for BWTC, DTZ is very excited to be associated with a scheme of this nature."
Rising over 240 metres, the BWTC will provide stunning views of Bahrain, said DTZ Bahrain associate director Duaij Al Rumaihi.
"Its unique architecture - complete with the three turbines - inspired by the traditional Arabian wind towers will serve as a model for an environmentally friendly society," he added.
The total cost of the BWTC is estimated at BD35 million, said Nizar Ahamed, senior cost manager for HAJ (Hisham Abdulrahman Jaffer), quantity surveyors, project co-ordinators and client representatives.
The frames and structures of the 50-storey towers are halfway finished with the completion of 25 floors, said Will Nolan, project director of Nass-Murray & Roberts.
The whole BWTC project is expected to be completed by next summer.
dubaiflo September 13th, 2005, 03:50 PM so good it was worth a double post :sleepy:
dubaiflo September 13th, 2005, 03:50 PM now that's a good idea.
Dubai-Lover September 13th, 2005, 07:59 PM yes yes yes
breaking news today!
they have a fucking awesome render in today's gulfnews
the slogan is:
it will have thousands of admirers.
and three big fans.
you get it?
it looks so awesome
cityscape makes the middle east go crazy, oh man, how i love that :D
Bahraini Spirit September 13th, 2005, 11:29 PM It's definately worth a double post hehe ;). And ya, we had a huge ad to today and it's most likely the same one you had in gulf news.
Dubai-Lover September 13th, 2005, 11:47 PM Pics taken today (18 floors completed):

great you guys keep us updated :) :okay:
btw: is that the bfh under c in the background
B-Patriot September 14th, 2005, 12:22 AM Yeah, thats awesome...I wanted to mention the add the day before yesterday but i forgot...It was in the GDN...The one that Dennis mentioned...Its clever..Thousands of admirers, three big fans... :tongue2:
I like it a lot...Don't know how practical this is though...I guess theres a bit more wind at higher altitudes...But this will really make the towers stick out...They'll be truely unique...And not only in Bahrain...Great for their image...I'm really excited...
And btw the guy in the article above is a liar :weird: The towers aren't halfway done...Not 25 floors...They're at 20, unless there are like 5 basement levels which i doubt...But at the rate they're going they should be well able to make the summer deadline...
Go BWTC, Go Bahrain :cheer: (I just really wanted to use this smiley, it just cracks me up for some reason!)
Bahraini Spirit September 14th, 2005, 04:04 AM Well 5 points:
(1) I kinda lied about the fact that I said it was the facade that's goin on, I took a look at it again and it was just some samples.
(2) The core is less than 25 floors by the looks of it but it's more than 20.
(3) Dennis, yes that's the BFH in that pic.
(4) They mentioned the cost to be $150 million but now they say BD 35 million which is less than $100. Unless they totally performed money efficient to just about $55 million, I think this cost is only for the towers and not the mall and hotel expansion.
(5) Last but not least, I like that smiley patriot hehe.
Chad September 14th, 2005, 07:37 AM I just realised how close it is to the Financial Harbor, defineitly will make a good skyline...:okay:
vc15nets September 14th, 2005, 07:49 PM The wind turbines are a good idea but somehow it just doesn't seem right maybe because this is something new. I mean the buildings would look sort of weird with three wind turbines. BWTC would look more like some sort of power plant instead of a financial center.
B-Patriot September 14th, 2005, 08:27 PM Btw I think they chaged their logo...There's a new logo at the construction site, on the little wall at the perimeter..Along with the new pictures of the tower with the wind turbines...
Bahraini Spirit September 15th, 2005, 01:00 AM The thing that will make this special besides the design is that it's the world's first building to use such technology.
Moody September 15th, 2005, 10:11 PM Logo was changed, thanks god...
I can't wait till the opening date when these two will make headlines around the world, just like burj al arab !
Moody September 15th, 2005, 10:13 PM there are marks on the towers that indicate that the length reached so far touches the 4th white horizontal line on the towers, look at the render, its about 1/3 total length.

Also, the spokesman said ''taking into consideration all serious customers, one full tower is leased already !
B-Patriot October 20th, 2005, 06:58 PM These ones are at 27 floors now...

Moody October 20th, 2005, 08:49 PM I think its 25..
B-Patriot October 20th, 2005, 09:07 PM I'm quite sure its 27...I counted...
Moody October 20th, 2005, 09:09 PM I counted it too, but in reality not in my dreams,
B-Patriot October 20th, 2005, 09:12 PM Hahahaha, well i'm really sure...Like 100% sure...25 floors are ready + the last two u see with like wooden support and stuff, still drying up, which adds up to 27...
Moody October 20th, 2005, 09:17 PM Are you counting G and M floors?? in case yes you are right, but remember the actual count should not consider those.
Bahraini Spirit October 20th, 2005, 11:57 PM Finally I get some time to post those pics, same angle as you patriot but 3 weeks old hehe. Anyways enjoy:

B-Patriot October 21st, 2005, 02:44 AM Are you counting G and M floors?? in case yes you are right, but remember the actual count should not consider those.
I was counting them...So then its like that with all highrises..These one's would be G and M + 50 floors?
Moody October 22nd, 2005, 12:03 AM just to clear things its G+M+24 floors only.
B-Patriot October 22nd, 2005, 01:36 AM But i mean when they're finished, they'll be 52 floors? Like G + M + 50 ?
Bahraini Spirit October 22nd, 2005, 06:09 AM I think it's more like G + M + 48 = 50. I could be wrong but I think that's right.
Moody October 22nd, 2005, 08:41 PM It will be 45 floors only, my prospects!
Bahraini Spirit October 22nd, 2005, 08:48 PM How can it be 45 floors if the towers are supposed to be 50 stories each?
Elmahri October 23rd, 2005, 08:31 AM 36 floors for rent and 14 floorsare just for services as floors after 36 will be too small
B-Patriot October 23rd, 2005, 10:15 AM What sort of services!? ^^
Moody October 23rd, 2005, 02:51 PM In most of their announcement they said ''50 floors tall twins'' never said it will actually have 50 floors, but at lenghth of 50 flrs.
as maher said, floors at the top level will be just that cone on the top, not useful
and yes services floors are manily for airconditioners, elevator rooms. etc!
Bahraini Spirit October 23rd, 2005, 03:02 PM I wouldn't mind buyin the last floor and makin it a penthouse and if it's tooo tight, a one bedroom apartment :D.
