View Full Version : Light rail in SAN ANTONIO? ajarreguin3 May 29th, 2011, 09:18 AM Is there any future in light rails in San Antonio... I've heard of the Austin San antonio am trak... But I was wondering about downtown and arena area getting a light rail TampaMike May 29th, 2011, 11:34 PM There has been talks of light rail in San Antonio. There isn't any detailed plans for it, but the mayor and city council has pretty much said it's one of their interests. The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce just recently got back from Spain and asked why San Antonio didn't have light rail while a metro slightly than San An did. So I'll expect more discussion in the coming months for light rail. ajarreguin3 May 30th, 2011, 07:12 AM Nice... Hopefully they will because the att center is so far from downtown and if a light rail would happen... It would definitely go to the arena.. And bring more business and make San Antonio a better marketable city! ajarreguin3 May 30th, 2011, 07:12 AM Maybe bring an NFL team and MLB!!! sweet-d May 30th, 2011, 09:19 AM yeah i could see San Antonio with light rail. But could please quit making threads. ajarreguin3 May 30th, 2011, 09:43 AM yeah i could see San Antonio with light rail. But could please quit making threads. Got ya;) Mister Nifty May 30th, 2011, 04:48 PM Is there any future in light rails in San Antonio... I've heard of the Austin San antonio am trak... But I was wondering about downtown and arena area getting a light rail To have a light rail system, one needs the synergy to build TODs. So, I could see some kind of rail system between San Antonio and Austin while a small trolly type of system gets built in downtown which is rather large area in confinement when compared to other CBDs and then expanding towards the north where there are some urban clusters. What universities exist in San Antonio? For the city to develop other industries, it needs universities to feed them. Whatever your answer, I bet this is one of the reasons San Antonio doesn't have a light rail system. In fact, this is a reason a lot of metropolitan areas don't progress as you can't do so by being politically divided. The first step in organizing to compete with other metros is to quit being stupid. How do you do that? Well, duh . . ., uh . . ., er . . . you create one chamber of commerce for cripes sake! desertpunk May 30th, 2011, 07:07 PM yeah i could see San Antonio with light rail. But could please quit making threads. X2 No need to spam the forum with threads asking inane questions and not providing substantive information. Consider this a warning. :nono: With all due respect, what in the hell is the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce? There are many Hispanic Chambers of Commerce in cities throughout the US. They exist to promote hispanic business and concerns of hispanic businesspeople. I've yet to see any "divisive politics" emanating from them. If anyone's politically devisive, it's the US Chamber of Commerce. Mister Nifty May 31st, 2011, 02:20 PM X2 There are many Hispanic Chambers of Commerce in cities throughout the US. But a customer is a customer. To call oneself "Hispanic Chamber of Commerce" implies specifically Hispanic customers buying Hispanic products from Hispanic companies. I do see a fatal flaw here that can interfere ultimately with matters like developing a light rail system. desertpunk May 31st, 2011, 07:05 PM I can understand a part of town like the "North Dallas Chamber of Commerce" representing a part of town. Conservative city councillors put the brales on our light rail system. And the Hispanic Chamber mostly focuses on developing entrepreneurship and building small businesses, not any kind of segregationist business practices or agenda. Where do you get these ideas? :| Mister Nifty May 31st, 2011, 10:52 PM Huh? We have a Hispano Chamber of Commerce here and they eagerly support light rail. Where do you get these ideas? :| Well, I'm not really arguing. I'm looking at it scientifically. As a "North Dallas Chamber of Commerce" would be a material agenda representing all customers, a "Hispanic Chamber of Commerce" is a social agenda representing a select customer. desertpunk May 31st, 2011, 10:58 PM If building networking relationships for small business owners is some sort of "social agenda", then I suppose they are guilty as charged. ardamir June 1st, 2011, 07:38 PM http://www.thecorridor.org/projects-commuter-rail.html Info about rail. ajarreguin3 June 1st, 2011, 09:46 PM http://www.thecorridor.org/projects-commuter-rail.html Info about rail. When Will work begin on this rail? ardamir June 2nd, 2011, 05:12 PM When Will work begin on this rail? I think it is a pipe dream. If you look up Texas State's master plan you will see that there was supposed to be a commuter rail station built by Strahan. popnfresh July 8th, 2011, 10:57 AM VIA Metro Transit (SA's transit authority) just hired an urban rail program manager to over see mass transit urban rail (including suburban light rail). VIA's CEO wants to have two downtown street car lines (north/south and east/west) up and running by 2015. http://www.sametrodaily.com/2011/07/via-hires-urban-rail-program-manager.html FYI, San Antonio also has an Asian American Chamber of Commerce (http://www.alamo-aacc.org/) as well as many other chambers of commerce. Why the Hispanic is such a sticking subject in this thread is baffling. ardamir July 9th, 2011, 03:00 AM Saw that today in the paper. Should be interesting. diskojoe July 11th, 2011, 10:22 PM yeah i could see San Antonio with light rail. But could please quit making threads. COULD PLEASE YOU MAKE GRAMMARS MORE BETTER |
