Today I went to the party of the German community in Sao Paulo.

Currently there are about 375 000 german surnames registered at the memorial of the immigrant from the city of Sao Paulo.

I just see bavarians and tourists on that pictures.

Where are the fishermen of the north, the mineworkers of the west and east? I see no Fischbrötchen, nor Kuckucksuhr, too little football and definitely too little beer.

Because it's a common stereotype that Germans act like Bavarians or hillbilly Austrians, which isn't true. ::sleepy:

I know. But this festival seems to be organised by brazilians of german origin, so I hoped they should know better. I am sure, not all of them are from Bavaria. I am just fed up, that bavarian traditions and customs = german. In this case it is even worse than all the Oktoberfest copies, because at least the Oktoberfest itself is bavarian.

Well, if the fellow Germans from the west, north and east have prooved to be unable to spread a distinct image of themselves around the globe for decades, then they shouldn't complain at all. :dunno:

I can not explain what part of germany the germans came to Brazil. but I think this might explain why there isn´t a greater representation of german culture at the event.


I know this kind of party, most of times, does not represent faithfully the culture of a country and sometimes even tends to ridicule.

We brazilians also feel the brazilian days the same around the world, very stereotyped, always showing the half-naked girls dancing samba.:lol:

But I think if we disregard the excesses or lacks we can enjoy these events in their limitations.

We all know that zünftige Lederhosen (leatherpants) are actually a very popular stereotype with the ladies.

Most germans coming to Brazil were from Pomerania, Saxony, Rhineland, Baden and Württenberg. We should also not forget that a good number of Russian-germans also migrated to Brazil, especially to Paraná state in the last decades of the XIXth century. From Bavaria there were only a few migrants.
