2010 Värtabanan railway put into provisional operation. Temporary section for a segment of E4/E20 opened at the end of the year. Start of construction on a temporary bridge in Solna. Temporary section for a segment of Norra Stationsgatan operational.

2011 Start of construction to enclose E4/E20 in tunnels. Temporary bridge in Solna operational. Old bridge torn down. Start of construction on a permanent bridge and commercial area.

2013 New bridge in Solna operational and temporary bridge torn down.

2014 Start of construction on the residential neighborhood north of Norra Stationsgatan.

2017 Start of construction to enclose the railway in tunnels.

2019 Railway tunnel operational. Värtabanan railway’s temporary tracks removed.

2020 Development start for Hagastaden’s community park.

2025 Hagastaden finished.

I think this project is a fantastic use of land over the motorway and railway lines. We have a slightly more extensive motorway in Auckland city centre that really divides the city. Hagastaden will go a long way to join Stockholm to Solna (and even more so once the green line is extended up to Solna).

Those photos really do show the size of the development at the Karolinska. Very exciting times!

In post #2 there are renders off the buildings from quarter 1-6 on the south side of the development, but aren't there any renders or information about the rest of the buildings?

The new temporary wooden solna bridge will open for traffic on 4 July for traffic coming from Stockholm, all traffic will go over the bridge sometime in late august, and i guess they will start demolishing the old one then as well.

the construction of Karolinska Institutet Science Park, Gamma (the forth oval building) is now on it's way.

The second crane for the auditorium will be raised this weekend so i guess we will see some real progress there now, the framework for the building is supposed to be finished sometime in November.

Yeah Cheers! :cheers: This is now (for me) the most intersting projects in town! At last, urban feel with the really high buildings planned there! OF

there was an accident yesterday at the new karolinska site when a blasting went wrong and rocks hit the torax facade and destroyed windows and entered the building through and open window. All blasting will be canceled until a investigation is finished.

Thats the second time at the site, last time was on "oljeberget" when rocks hit the apartment buildings at olof af acrels väg and injured (i think it was two) workers.

Sammanfattning
I samband med godkännandet av detaljplanen för Hagastaden i december 2009 uppdrog Stadsbyggnadsnämnden åt Stadsbyggnadskontoret att bearbeta Gestaltnings- och kvalitetsprogrammets del 3 som redovisar den nya bebyggelsen, samt att återkomma med en redovisning av områdets offentliga rum i del 2. Efter beslutet i Stadsbyggnadsnämnden i december 2009 har kontoret tillsammans med berörda parter arbetat utifrån nämndens direktiv och återkommer nu för redovisning och godkännande av del 2 och 3a. Gestaltnings- och kvalitetsprogrammets första del godkändes i december 2009, varför denna del inte redovisas nu.

I samband med godkännandet av detaljplanen för Hagastaden i
december 2009 uppdrog Stadsbyggnadsnämnden åt Stadsbyggnadskontoret att bearbeta Gestaltnings- och kvalitetsprogrammets del 3 som redovisar den nya bebyggelsen, samt att återkomma med en redovisning av områdets offentliga rum i del 2.

I ett särskilt uttalande anförde majoriteten i december 2009 följande:
”Den variation i höjder som tillkommit under projektets senare del är mycket bra. Stadsbyggnadsnämnden tror dock att det oregelbundna, fria och tillåtande kan få utvecklas än längre när det kommer till exempelvis fasader och gårdsmiljöer. Vår ambition är att skapa småskalighet och identitet i det stora. Vi vill se att både kvarterens yttre och dess innergårdars fasader får variera ännu mer, att de fasader som till exempel idag redovisas likadana för hela gårdsrum bryts upp med hjälp av vertikala indelningar med sinsemellan olika arkitektur. Vi uppmuntrar
till en blandning av former och uttryck inom kvarteren, som en sam- och framtida tolkning av stenstadens rika arkitektoniska variation.” ”De kommersiella kvarteren intill Tors Torn ingår i innerstadens primära gatunät och angränsar till närliggande bostadsmiljöer. De bör därför få starkare arkitektoniskt uttryck och identitet än hittills redovisat.” ”Den centrala och sammanbindande parken kommer att kräva ett omfattande arbete för att åstadkomma den stadsmässighet och de rekreationsvärden vi efterfrågar. Utgångspunkten ska lämpligen vara den klassiska stockholmsparken.

Efter beslutet i Stadsbyggnadsnämnden i december 2009 har kontoret tillsammans med berörda parter arbetat utifrån nämndens direktiv och återkommer nu för
redovisning och godkännande av del 2 och 3a.

Den tredje delen av programmet innehåller detaljerade redovisningar av varje markanvisat kvarter och beskriver förverkligandet av den för området gemensamma stadsbyggnadsvisionen. Här definieras de enskilda kvarteren, bebyggelsens volym och gårdsrum, material, färg samt markbehandling.

De direktiv om fortsatt arbete som uppdrogs åt Stadsbyggnadskontoret i samband med godkännandet av detaljplanen 2009 har tillgodosetts i såväl Gestaltnings- och kvalitetsprogrammets del 2 som del 3a. Nämndens önskemål att därutöver finna en ny placering för Klockhusets torn har hörsammats då tornet nu är tänkt att integreras i den nya östra paviljongen på Norra Stationsgatan.

Beträffande Tors Torn beslutade exploateringsnämnden den 24 maj 2011 att dra tillbaka markanvisningen från Oslo Naeringseiendom AS, vilket innebär att förhandlingarna inte kommer att fortsätta. Kontoret återkommer med redovisningen av tornen i ett senare skede.

Yeah, the roads in the area are a bit of a nightmare unfortunately. I'm not so bothered about the blocks as I am about the landscaping and amount of space devoted to roadways.

Absolutely it would have made it so much better.
And i can't believe we missed out on the first tower starting it's construction next year, god knows when whatever it is that will be built there instead will start it's construction.

I think i´ve read that they have postponed the construction just a couple of weeks ago, but can´t find where right now .. i´ll try to find it again.

In one of the links I posted in the Stockholm thread yesterday one could read that if the city would have agred with Oslo Naeringseiendom then the towers in the end would have become only 20 floors high, that was what it was down to in the end.

The complaints about Hagastaden by some has always been that it will be too densly populated but I think it is more dense in Vasastaden, at least I remember reading that it was somewhere:

The complaints about Hagastaden by some has always been that it will be too densly populated but I think it is more dense in Vasastaden, at least I remember reading that it was somewhere:
I remember figures showing the opposite: even whan the plans were at their densest, they didn't match Vasastan (or at least Vasastans densest parts). We seem to have lost the knack of building density. "We" as in the planners and builders running things. If only YIMBY's plan could have been built instead... :D

Looking at the webcam below I can't help to think that the auditorium looks smaller then I thought it would.
Is that how you experience it to GoSatta, I mean you see it for real just outside where you live, so one perhaps gets another impression of it for real then on this camera.

Stadsbyggnadsnämnden finner det på sin plats att göra ett antal förtydliganden om del 3a.

De arkitektoniska uttryck som redovisas för bostadshusen är en lägstanivå för vad som kan accepteras i Hagastaden.
Gestaltningsprogrammet kan och kommer endast att få frångås om förslagen vidareutvecklas och förädlas.
Förslagen får gärna hämta mer och tydligare inspiration från den klassiska innerstadsarkitekturen.
Den historiska stadsbebyggelsen skall tjäna som föredöme, inte minst avseende tydliga entréer och en allmänt värdig utformning.

En överväldigande majoritet av de föreslagna byggnaderna har platta tak, ett stilgrepp som kan övervägas om gröna tak eller riktiga takterrasser anläggs.
I de fall detta inte kan uppnås skall högresta tak allvarligt övervägas. Ett rikt och varierat taklandskap med en mångfald av taklutningar, material och färger bidrar mycket
till intrycket av en stadsdel skapad av och för individer.

Riktlinjerna för den yttre färgsättningen, den så kallade paletten, baseras på malmarnas klassiska färgskala och är i huvudsak bra, men vi ser också gärna att ett antal fasader kan få kraftigare eller klarare kulörer än de som normalt ryms inom paletten.
I bygglovskede ska alltid den tillkommande fastighetens fasader redovisas tillsammans med omkringliggande bebyggelse.
Det är viktigt att nämnden alltid får redovisningar där projektets enskilda detaljer sätts in i det större sammanhanget.
Vi uttrycker därför också en bestämd önskan om att få hela stadsdelens fasadfärger redovisade i större skala.

Avslutningsvis slår stadsbyggnadsnämnden fast att när ytterligare kvarter framgent markanvisas och den tredje delen av gestaltningsprogrammet del för del kompletteras, måste det
oregelbundna, fria och tillåtande utvecklas än längre. Organiska former, som avrundningar av hörn men också av andra byggnadsdelar, är värt att pröva.
Vi uppmuntrar till ytterligare blandning av former och uttryck inom kvarteren, som en sam- och framtida tolkning av stenstadens rika arkitektoniska variation.

Well in Stockholm you are not allowed to have any special architecture, because then NIMBY:s will just complaining, the small NIMBY group is very loud and powerfull.

^^ I was there having a walk around today so I can get my bearings for my first meeting tomorrow. The area is an absolute construction minefield! I didn't realise just how much is going on in the area!

Such an awesome picture! Too bad they couldnt have extended the area further, that they built over the motorways. :/

Indeed an awesome shot and I agree 100% that it would be good to extend over the motorway further as it is an eyesore and a half. I can't wait for this area to become more settled, the traffic in the area is crazy and Bus no.3 is a nightmare at the moment.

Build the Green Line extension!

Stockholms metro area is indeed heavilly trafficed. I travel to Frescati (the SU campus) every day (except weekends) via Solna and see traffic jams in many places while travelling by bus. Even though the transport system is great, there is still something to improve. Hopefully, Hagastaden will be the district with a decent transport coverage. :)

^^ It really is chaos in Stockholm at the moment! So much work in the infrastructure - roads and rails, improvements, redevelopments and new projects everywhere! But I guess thats a good thing. Very hyped to see the renovation that they did on the Green Line, if I'm not mistaken they're going to open it on Monday next week.

Lots of childrens playgrounds, no litter, little/no graffiti and cars are separate from people and despite what people say, it feels safe to me. Lots of people walking around and young kids out on bikes/playing in parks. Commute is a little long, but beyond that, no complaints!

My ex used to live there (she now lives with her son in my old apartment in Danderyd thanks to me...) and
that place is not too bad actually and especially so compared to places nearby like Alby, Norsborg, Fittja,
Masmo, Skärholmen, etc.
Close to nice nature, beaches (Slagsta) and a decent centrum.
Enjoy it while it lasts! :okay:

I suppose it is a quite an experience though, as modernist and anti-urban as it gets. The total opposite of Central Stockholm. Hallunda, in my opinion, looks a bit similar to the council estates in southeast London. Great that you didn't get the right hump about the area though :)

The Östermalmstorg building got it's facade changed and this one should too before it goes any further, but this is located in Solna and not on Östermalm so it won't get as much attention I suppose.

Folkhälsohuset looks awful indeed, though I'll reserve judgement until I see it finished. Might work in a bigger context (though I hardly doubt it). What I do like about that area is the variation in shapes. There'll be more curved corners here than any place else in Sthlm. :)

I remember seeing pictures of when the architects testing how the facade would look like and it looked awful back then too of course, but why no one of the decision takers reacted back then is just not understandable.

You are correct, and after that they have made one more test with the flat facade but they have put up some barracks infront of it so you can´t see it anymore.

Very true.

That's the problem with a lot of swedish architecture these days. Some firms, like Wingårdhs, are obsessed with being original and often forget the actual aesthetic quality.

When you look at their renders you can't help but wonder how these guys got the job in the first place.

I'm English, yes, but I've been living in New Zealand for 7 years now. I was back in London back in September though, and overall I'd say that it's really hard to judge given that the Olympics are coming to London this year so there is major construction underway in a lot of areas of the city. The Olympics aside though, I'd say that the level of construction overall in Stockholm is much higher (except for public transport investment).

London has half a dozen skyscrapers under construction tough while Stockholm and the whole N&B unfortunatly has naught.

I think that the city of stockholm needs to be extended, i sometimes wonder why isn't solna part of stockholm. Solna, Sundbyberg, Taby, Danderyb i think should all be part of stockholm

Well to be correct Stockholm is actually a part of Solna :) solna used to go all the way over Gamla Stan and ended at Södermalm :)

But all the northern suburbs ARE a part of Stockholm but not a part of Stockholm municipality. It's only political borders and we should just ignore them. And this thread is the biggest proof that Stockholm City is growing over the municipal borders.

Håller med om att ett bevarande vore att föredra då den både är vacker och bidrar till områdets lite industriella karaktär.

Där ser man hur brant Gävlegatan kommer att bli, om jag inte minns fel så kommer väl flera kvarter få trappor i mellan sig pga. lutningen.

nu när jag själv tittar på bilden så visar det ju rätt bra att marken börjar gå upp lite efter klocktornet så det skulle nog rätt lätt kunna få stå kvar och bli inbyggt i det kvarter som ska stå där!

Yeah, but it isn't decided if it should be rebuilt or not. Imo it should be since it looks great and connects to the area's history.

I'd say that the new street level is about 1,5 max 2 meters over the foundation of the clock tower.

Lets take a walk down the new Solnavägen and lets see how Akademiska hus has fucked it up!

After Torsplan we have a commercial building with big windows and there will be restaurants, shops etc.

Folkhällsohuset, Yes they got what looks like a big nice glass lobby but its set high up from the s treet with no entrance.

I don't mind to be honest. I rarely connect science, schools and medicine with good street connection anyway. I actually like how it is sort of a "free zone" for street life.

I think it is weird when they are starting to do the exact opposite on KTH Campus, opening it up, more room for cafes etc.

Why? shops = people = safety = more shops/restaurants/appartments etc. etc.

Is´t that what a city is all about? the way it is now we don´t even have a grocery store on this (Solna) side of the border.

I don't think anyone here wants a generic shopping street with H&M, Lindex, Coop, hairdressers and what not, but some street interaction would be nice and there's alot of otehr types of commerce that would fit in more with the area's profile.
