u are wrong, there are more than 30 of them, and a city isnt useless if it has low number of highrises.
HasanB October 20th, 2004, 11:31 AM Islamabad is useless right now since they are less then 10 building in Islamabad with at least 5 floors +
So that makes it useless?? Are you 7 years old? Do you not take into account that Islamabad is a green city and that huge buildings would ruin the landscape not to mention that random huge buildings are not required since its the federal capital and not the business hub of the country. Also according to you why spend on big buildings ... we should spend on the poor yeah? So youre contradicting yourself, therefore the only conclusion i can come to is that you are purposely spamming the forum with negative comments. You are entitled to your view however childish and baseless random comments are unacceptable. Therefore im going to give you yet another warning, and monitor your postings from now on. Remember, posting your thoughts is alright but you must base these on fact ... im letting you off again, but watch it mate.
zees January 30th, 2005, 06:02 AM move this to Islamabad forum.
Khanabadosh January 30th, 2005, 12:19 PM Islamabad is really beautiful city.
Techno-Architect June 5th, 2005, 10:29 PM Islamabad is useless right now since they are less then 10 building in Islamabad with at least 5 floors +
Islamabad is not a metropolitan city but an administrative city. There is ample space for construction over here so we usually don’t have high rise buildings. Instead the building expand parallel to ground.
Right now we have about 12-14 high rise building and the majority of these building are owned by banks stating that they are costly in construction.
According to the master plan of Islamabad the Blue Area Region has been allocated as the large commercial zone. On one side of the road the we have medium commercial building which are low-rise construction usually 5-8 floors and on the other side there are high-rise buildings. As stated by some other user that it is not the commercial hub we therefore do not have much of construction in the high-rise side, but from time to time there is and will be increase in skyscraper in the skyline of the city. Two new high-rise building are on their way, one being the STATE LIFE TOWER [designed by NAQVI & SIDDIQI] which will be Islamabad’s tallest building in the Blue Area region consisting of 22floors, and the other being ISLAMABAD STOCK EXCHAGE building [ designed by NESPAK] which is 16floors.
Being the capital of the nations, Islamabad is working fully as an administrative city and this can be seen through the presence of large number of official building located mainly in G-5/F-5 Constitutional Avenue. Picture have already been posted by previous users.
Techno-Architect June 6th, 2005, 04:14 AM Changes In Islamabad
Since the creation of the capital, insufficient fund have been provided which has stunted the development in all sphere culturally, economically, commercially, recreationally etc. For the past 3-4 year Mr.Kamran Lashari has been appointed as the chairman of CDA and under his supervision i have witnessed quite a lot of changes in the capital.
There is a lot of landscaping being done around here, palm trees have been planted at the Blue Area Avenue which cost usually Rs30,000 and more each. The landscaping in being well maintained through large water tankers and large number of horticulturalist working all the time on it. The city has beautified with the placement of sculpture monuments and fountains on the busiest road crossings. Stress has been laid on cleanliness and busy places like JINNAH SUPER MARKET, MELODY MARKET, SUPER MARKET are always kept clean by workers working till late night.
Most roads have been carpeted and still being completed which make about more than 220km Of road network in city. All the single service lanes around each sector are going to be doubled soon which will ease traffic problems. 3 underpasses have been ordered on the Blue Area Avenue, ie the CHINA CHOWK, MOBILINK CHOWK, AND AMERICAN EXPRESS CHOWK. Plus the road to Chaklala Airbase has been made 6 lane. There is going to be a flyover construction at ZERO POINT and 4 more on the same road to airbase. All the important signals in the city are being equipped with electronic timer traffic lights which are very expenses.
In august 2002 food park was opened for the first time in MELODY MARKET. This has been since then a place to go for most of the residents. A few months back a similar project has been launched to open one in Blue Area Avenue.
The road to PIR SOHA and CAPITAL VIEW POINT have been lighted till the end which is about 14km long and thus has provided access to the top even at the darkest hours of the night. The widening of the road has increased the number of cars transition over the last 2 years.
An open air theatre was completed last year at SHAKAR PARYAN which provides space for large concert to be held. But still there is need for a cinema’s, theatre and exhibition halls for the young generation. The government must look forward to push the private sector in providing some sort of recreational facilities over here.
Last year Mr.Shah Sharabeel came up and performed his play PHANTOM OF THE OPERAH which began a chain reaction of play in the city. I think after every 40-50days we have a new playing going on in the auditoriums which should be visited by visitors from other city to have a look at our culture and way of life. The president has said to make a CULTURAL CENTRE in Islamabad. Let see know when that is going to be constructed.
Although most outsiders would not find such changes so great but living in a small city such changes are good enough as compared to none during the 80’z and 90’s era.I think the government and private sector should do much more than this to bring more life in the capital through cultural and social activities. What could they be….? Do you people living in isloo or anywhere else have suggestion of improvements…..
pakboy June 6th, 2005, 04:51 AM blue area is changing, there will be many new high rise towers there soon, as the gov. wants to demolish all small buildings and make new ones.

I agree...there are lots of improvements in Islamabad!
Islamabad is a clean and beautiful city. The only thing missing is the cultural and social activities as you mentioned too. Also it does not have the buzz of a big city. I can think of few steps to improve the cultural and social activities....
1. Needs to be more recreational facilities e.g. cinemas, theaters, gyms, clubs etc.
2. promote people from other cities especiall Rawalpindi to visit Islamabad more often
3. Islamabad's population is low so build more affordable apartments, which i guess has already been planned
4. More festivals
5. In my opinion sometimes there is too much of police personnels on roads which give a sense of security zone. may be there are other ways of policing in the city
etc etc.....
what do you think guys?!?!
Khanabadosh June 22nd, 2005, 02:00 PM Will someone tell me about the following things. Hindustani August 25th, 2005, 01:06 AM Yes, that image is Bombay but I am not sure what exactly that building is as I am not from Bombay. Swerveut coule be right, it could be University of Bombay. Kshatriya & Jai could answer this question better. That building definitely is British Raj architecture & I doubt Islamabad has such a prominant british colonial architecture.
Anniyan August 25th, 2005, 01:11 AM It is Bombay High Court, It is an attractive building built in 1878 in the early Engligh Gothic style. The central structure rises up to 54.2 metres and is surmounted by statues representing Justice and Mercy

sher-e-lahore December 4th, 2005, 01:45 AM While preparing my wishlist for WMS support in Google Earth I noticed that Google Earth seems to choke on 24 bit PNG images. I kept getting an “unsupported image format” error.
I Googled for the error message and didn’t find much. Can anyone shed some light on this?
Any WMS that provides data in PNG, and which has layers created from raster data sources, will most likely produce 24 bit PNG map images. Aerial photography and satellite imagery look very poor when downgraded to 8 bit/256 colour palette based formats (8 bit PNG and GIF).

ps. You dont need to do much for getting images like this. Just open google earth, type in Pakistan for search, and zoom in on Islamabad (for some reason, if you type in Islamabad, it will take you to a wrong location near Peshawar). Next find what you want to share, go to file menu, and save image as JPG.

affendi January 6th, 2006, 06:11 AM Sorry but im afraid U r wrong, mash'allah, Shah-Faisal is the WORLD's biggest MOSQUE. Subhanallah, now here's my proof:
http://www.pilotguides.com/destination_guide/asia/pakistan/shah_faisal_mosque.php
or if u don't believe me then SEARCH. It can hold upto 100,000 muslims. Mash'allah
this is a common misperception among pakistanis. its not true. both makkah and medina can accomodate more than a million worshippers. and thats without squeezing. you can add another 500000 in the covered area and the outside area. faisal mosque at one point had the distinction, but this was way before makkah and medina were renovated and upgraded.

UnitedPakistan March 7th, 2006, 09:33 PM Yes, it looks like a replica of the one in Lahore. Anyone have any idea what the heck the momument is for?
Scribbller March 8th, 2006, 05:51 AM Now days driving and commuting around Islamabad is a nightmare, a journey that used to take 10 minutes atleast takes 45 minuts now because of the traffic problems, Islamabad needs atleast 12 underpasses and 3 flyovers.
arfie March 8th, 2006, 10:49 AM I thought Islamabad was a quiet city with not much population and not alot of traffic.
This must mean population increasing as more jobs probably available in islamabad - also must be more activities in islamabad compared to before.

Comparing Islamabad with any other of Pakistan's older cities is a farce. You can see the reality 20 minutes away from zero point as you drive towards Ravalpindi.
Intoxication April 15th, 2006, 07:01 PM ^^ I was just answering Kashmiris question, whilst highlighting the inequality in Pakistan. From where i found Islamabad's data, i also found karachi's, so i thought i'll post it as well. I was in no way comparing Islambad with one of Pakistan's 'older' city, that was your own assumption. So why the jalan?
UnitedPakistan April 15th, 2006, 07:53 PM Per capita income: $736, almost 12 per cent higher than last years $657.

we have to struggle first to make our country's economic position more better ,then we can expect to have cities like Dubai, Abu Dhabi etc...

ArchiPak June 4th, 2006, 07:16 PM A while back I read somewhere that the Islamabad authorities wanted to expand Islamabad on the other side of some mountains. It would be the new Islamabad. Does anyone have more information on this?
FK June 4th, 2006, 10:46 PM I never heard of such a proposal, but maybe someone can shed more light on this?
