TRUMP PARTNER BUYS TORONTO BUILDING SITE
The Trump International Hotel & Tower, Toronto development took another step towards reality when TRUMP ORGANIZATION partner, TALON INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT INC. acquired the building site at Bay & Adelaide in downtown Toronto. The land was purchased from the BRESLER family of Toronto, for an undisclosed sum. The site at 325 Bay Street will be home to the $500-million Trump International Hotel & Tower, Toronto, a 68-storey mixed use five-star hotel and residential property currently under development. The building will be the tallest residential building in Canada when completed. Talon CEO VAL LEVITAN stated: "This land purchase demonstrates our commitment to the long-term success of this project." Hotel condominium suites start at $652,000 and residential suites start at $1.6 million. The property will feature 265 luxury hotel guestrooms and 109 residential condominiums available for purchase. Filip October 3rd, 2004, 03:04 AM Nice, I can't wait to see that thing rise!
bizorky October 3rd, 2004, 05:38 AM Completion date (I read somewhere) was to be early 2009. It would take a little over two years to build.
Homer J. Simpson October 3rd, 2004, 06:52 AM When it starts construction, I'm going to use my webcam and stop action photography to capture it rising from my bedroom window. I might not get the first 2/3's of it but that does not matter.
SHORTY October 4th, 2004, 01:40 AM I think that a reasonable start time for this project is spring 2006.

Toronto — Donald Trump's plan to build Canada's tallest skyscraper will face one of its final challenges Tuesday at the Ontario Municipal Board.

The OMB will hear from groups who oppose construction of the 68-storey super luxury hotel and condominium at the corner of Bay and Adelaide streets.
One opponent that won't be there, however, is the historic National Club, which sits on the lot beside the Trump building site.
According to manager Bill Morari, the club has concluded that it won't be able to stop the project, despite concerns about the number of people and vehicles that will be crammed in next door.
"It's a rather large project for the size of the footprint of the land, so I'm somewhat worried what real impact that's going to have on Bay and Adelaide down the road," he said.
But with approval of the construction appearing inevitable, Morari is now focused on how the Trump building might benefit the National Club.
He sees an opportunity to recruit new members among the eventual occupants of the building, where condo prices start at $1.6 million.
While the PMB could still order changes to the design, city councillor Pam McConnell is confident that the Trump tower will be built.
McConnell says projects like this are important for the Toronto because they keep people downtown. "The financial district very much is seen as the place where we can afford to have the skyscrapers," she said. "It allows us to keep the density in that particular area."
And, as skyscrapers go, it will be unrivalled in the country.
Standing 325 metres high, the tower named for the flamboyant American real estate entrepreneur will be the tallest building of its kind in Toronto, and the tallest residential building in Canada.
Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2005, and the building is expected to open in 2009.

TOWER OR NO TOWER?
All week, people opposed to Donald Trump's bid to build Canada's tallest skyscraper get their last chance to raise objections. The Ontario Municipal Board began hearings yesterday. Already one of the most powerful objectors is dropping out, and another may soon follow. This morning Andy Barrie spoke with CBC City Hall reporter David Michael Lamb.

Hillis October 27th, 2004, 10:01 AM What did OMB say?
Mike in TO October 27th, 2004, 08:42 PM Well the biggest hurdle isn't approvals for this project - it's generating enought sales to go ahead.
Virtually all industry insiders I've spoken with about Trump aren't even taking the project too seriously.
That being said I really hope it gets off the ground, although late 2005 seems a tad optimistic to me. My speculative guess is April 2006 - anyone want to make some bets?
Mr Man October 27th, 2004, 11:11 PM It's truly 50/50 at this point IMO.
Homer J. Simpson October 27th, 2004, 11:36 PM You live in the First Canadian Place/ Bank of Montreal building? :jk:
I can see the upper 3rd of FCP so it stands to reason that if Trump gets built, I will see the upper 3rd of it if it gets built.
usernames suck October 30th, 2004, 05:30 PM Does anyone know the present percentage of trump units that have been sold, or even sapphire for that matter?

As everyone already knows keeping the density to one area makes the skyline uneven thank God cityplace is getting built.
Anyway, hopefully trump gets built.
KGB October 31st, 2004, 08:14 PM "As everyone already knows keeping the density to one area makes the skyline uneven "
But I would hardly describe the situation downtown confined to the financial district...in fact, it's getting only a few buildings...it's the rest of downtown that is densifying in the highrise catagory. What the financial district lacks, is residential density....not that all these quasi hotels qualify as genuine residential anyway.
And 1000 foot+ buildings are not going to be built anywhere else anyways...let's look at the financial district as just a bonus of super-dense very tall buildings to go with the ton of highrises popping up everywhere else downtown (and beyond).

entropy October 31st, 2004, 09:55 PM Thanks for the pics and updates (especially since I won't be seeing anything in person anytime soon due to my university midterm-induced anorexia). BTW who are these objectors to the project?

Mr Man November 9th, 2004, 04:03 AM 4 driveway enterances? wtf
KGB November 9th, 2004, 05:09 AM Isn't there three? One way into interior drop-off (off Bay)...one way out (off Adelaide)...and one to the underground parking (off Adelaide as well).
Wasn't the loading problem what held approval up? This must be the solution
