Aerotropolis Atlanta is a mixed-use development zoned for 6.5 million square feet of Class-A office, hotel, conference center, retail, data center, business park, and the parking facility. The former 2.8 million square foot production facility for the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable will have a global focus to capitalize on Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport’s future international terminal. It promises to be the touchstone for Atlanta’s Southside that Atlantic Station has been for Midtown Atlanta.
The site, purchased from Ford on June 11, 2008, is less than one mile from the new Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Terminal, expected to be completed in 2013-15. And the development’s proposed, partially covered 4,000-space parking lot will be one of the closest parking locations to the new International Terminal, expected to serve more than 13 million passengers within seven years.

Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) today announced it will build a new headquarters in Atlanta, the city it has called home for thirteen years. The new complex will be located in the “Aerotropolis Atlanta” development site, near the brand new International Terminal at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. It will be comprised of modern office facilities for a workforce that will eventually number 400 employees, including a Technical Service and Training Center, as well as a leading-edge Customer Experience Center that will feature a handling road course to show-off the capabilities of Porsche’s industry-leading vehicles. Groundbreaking is planned for this fall with the move-in date scheduled for the second half of 2013.
“The unparalleled nature of the Porsche ownership experience absolutely deserves an equally unique home. That is what we’ll create with our new headquarters – a concept completely new to the U.S. automotive industry, and one that delivers our brand and product experience to our employees, dealers and customers alike,” said Detlev von Platen, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America.
“Our new American headquarters will allow us to finally bring together all our major sales, after sales and financial services capacities, thus making us an even stronger organization. It also sends a strong message to our dealers and our customers that we believe in the strength of the U.S. market and its future growth,” von Platen explained. “At the same time, this decision demonstrates our commitment to the State of Georgia and the City of Atlanta to remain a vital part of this vibrant region.”
The decision to stay in Atlanta was the result of a thorough, more than one-year long search and evaluation process that spanned metropolitan Atlanta and several out-of-state sites. The new headquarters will not only be home to PCNA, but also to Porsche Financial Services, Inc., and Porsche Business Services, Inc. which are both currently located in Lisle, Illinois. Other Porsche businesses will also be included, building a solid foundation for further expansion of Porsche’s largest market worldwide.

Is this area still being developed?
desertpunk July 26th, 2011, 06:28 PM Is this area still being developed?
Yes, Porsche USA just signed onto locating their headquaters at Aerotropolis and the dirt's flying right now. Since it's being developed in parcels, certain things like hotels may wait a year but there's plenty going up!

Jim856796 January 23rd, 2012, 09:28 PM To the west and north of the Hartfield-Jackson International Airport, there currently exists the Georgia International Convention Centre, the Delta Airlines World Headquarters, a Sheraton, a Westin, 2 Marriotts, a Hilton Garden Inn, a Comfort Inn, a Crowne Plaza, a Doubletree, and a Hilton. In Atlanta's new Aerotropolis, there are 10 parcels to build on, and a parking lot in the runway clearance zone.

Airport Cities Are Hot- How is Atlanta's Coming Along?

With all of the attention focused on the debut of the new Maynard H. Jackson International Terminal at Hartsfield (and to a lesser extent, related scandals) there hasn't been much news on another new, much bigger project planned for the vicinity of the airport. We refer, of course, to Aerotropolis- the bold vision The Jacoby Group has for the shuttered Ford assembly plant in Hapeville. Apparently Atlanta is not alone in making plans to build a mini-city around its airport, as evidenced by the headline of this piece (http://enr.construction.com/infrastructure/transportation/2012/0514-aviation-based-development-emerging-as-trend-in-planning.asp) from the Engineering News-Record: "Aviation-Based Development Emerging as Trend in Planning." The article focuses on Denver's plans for its airport city, but the timing was interesting in light of last week's news that Porsche and the City of Atlanta are closer to a final deal on the relocation of the German automaker's North American headquarters to Aerotropolis. In addition, given the merger of Porsche and Volkswagen currently in process, there is now talk that VW could also relocate there.
