View Full Version : Mole Antonelliana | Turin, Italy
therock July 31st, 2004, 11:38 AM Mole Antonelliana
The “ Mole Antonelliana” is the symbol of Turin, 168 metres high (the highest brickbuilding in Europe), and stands overlooking the city. You have the best view of the city from the balcony, and can look north to the mountains and south to the hills of Asti.
The history of the Mole is a painful one. During its construction, Antonelli modified his original plans to incorporate the area (the foundations) designated for the new synagogue, and so the building (begun in 1862 and yet to be completed) was acquired by the Council (1877) and brought to completion exactly one hundred years after work started. Damaged by the storm of 1953, the Mole has been through various restorations, the last including the installation of the splendid Museo del Cinema (Museum of Cinema) with a remarkable collection of old machinery used in films. This is a great homage to the city where the Italian movie was born.

tommolo December 26th, 2011, 04:15 AM iron architecture isn't it? I think it's safe to say that this building (purely aestetically talking) it's much prettier than the eiffel tower, which has no artistic value whatsoever but just (an enormous!) engineeristical value, a thing very considered in these day & age but i think will not be so considered in the future...so would be very interesting to know which one will be more famous and iconic in the future, once this industrial era has gone.
Anyway, we're talking about this building in Turin: any other vote less than 10 would be unfair.
so, 10/10!
Andrju_juvee December 26th, 2011, 09:35 PM 10/10 . Torino is my favorite city in italy and europe ;] so only 10/10 btw tommolo i see a preaty nice words about Torino if i see you are from Milan so it is not typical becouse this two citys aren't friendly but alweys in hight level of economical and sport , infrastructure ...
Future of Italy is Turin and Milan i think so
tommolo December 26th, 2011, 11:48 PM i recognize value when i see it, and i like torino!...and i think future in italy and in in europe in general is rather than in turin or milan coming really from the southern-eastern front. Mediterrean has lost importance in last few centuries in favour of atlantic ocean, but what we see clearly nowadays is that mediterrean is regaining its full importance day by day, at the end it is and it will always be the only sea in the world where three continents and three cultures meet, and southern countries in europe or northern countries in africa or asia that are around it will regain in next decades their full importance they always had...mixing cultures is always a winning key towards the future, and mediterrean has an unique position to let cultures mix together. That's what I see when I think about the future. Maybe not in years but in decades or centuries, but I think we will see it coming like that. Sorry about the off topic post! ;)
Andrju_juvee December 27th, 2011, 01:53 AM yeah it is interesting what did you put in this post but back to Turin and Italy we will see how many big corporations are in Turin or Milan this citys could be a capitals of no very huge nation . Hisotory of Savoi and architecture with new huge towers 170 - 210 m tall , very good livestyle I could live in Turin and have everything btw return to molle some peopele dosent know that - it was the highest strukture to the eifel time - symbol of Paris was made
