i have just made a city, population is still small,

problem is i have made high density commercial and residential zones as well as low density, but i am nhot getting any high risers or buildings at all, only small houses and shops.

otherthing is that my yearly income is less then my expenditure, so i lose alot of money every year, wat can i do to fix that, should i raise taxes,

and how can i increase population rapidly.

you need a large population and high demand for skyscrapers.

think this way - in real life are there many cities with a population less than 10,000 with many supertalls?

I set the taxes on 9% for the poor, 8,5% for the middle class and 8% for the wealthy (no matter if residential, commercial or industrial)
How many inhabitants do you have? Have you already built service facilities? (police station, fire department, hospital, school etc.) If yes, decrease the funding to a level that is enough to fulfill the demand of these services and watch them constantly. If you have still money, the demand of i.e. residential is high and the already existing residentials don't grow, then built some more residential zones within the areas of the service facilities as long as you have money.

the other problem i am getting is that employment is 100% full, so there are many people in my city without jobs, and there houses end up being abandoned, and i cant create more jobs cos my commercial zones just arnt developing at all.

i have put many industrial zones is well, but they are not developing any further and are all of dirty industry.

Is there a demand for high-tech industry? Then make a new little industrial park where air and water are still clean. Let some green space between the dirty and the high-tech industry.

You have to provide a good educational and a good health system, those are very important to get smarter and richer people.

maybe it's a demand cap, try plopping plazas, but seeing your low on money i suggest zoning industry or making a neighbour connection to make your sims work in another city.

well the citys next to mine are empty and i have put mnay plazas in the commercial areas but there not developing still.

and the industrys are also closing down and so are the residential zones as there are no jobs, i have also proposed the clean air ordenience but still nothing happened

how far's commercial to residential? i'd zone them closer together, keep the commute time low.

maybe for money, you can zone a lot of dirty industrial along one side of the city, and then tax it highly, while you have most of the commercial and residential on the other side.

what's your education and health situations, too?

my suggested tax rate would be around 8% for $ and $$ commercial, and at least for lower-wealth residential; you'll have more of them, and you can get more of them easier than getting wealthy ones, and then up their taxes.

Are you using any elementary schools, I can't seem to find them on your screenshots?

If you query the abbandoned buildings (try all 3 kinds, RCI), what's the reason those get abbandoned?

yea i have 1 elementry school and 3 private schools (d/l off net)

well i queryed all of them but it says nothing except current occupation 0/how ever big it is. and the rest of the stuf which it usally says like pollution, crime, land value, eduction and all that is good.

one elementary school is not enough to cover nearly all your residential areas. You also have far too much commercial areas and often too far away from the residentials. It is better, if you put some commercial blocks into the residential zone and delete the commercial zones, which are far away. Or build residential zones around all existing commercial zones, but don't forget to provide hospitals, police, fire dept. ,educational facilities etc. to this new residential zones.

Your town doesn't look big enough to get skyscrapers. Be patient.

1. you really don't need that many power lines, power'll go from zone to zone easily (within 2 tiles i think)

2. mix up your commercial and residential more to cut down on commute time

3. your taxes...lower 'em some to encourage growth.

4. maybe try a grid system, at least for part of your city; see what happens with it.

have you patched your sc4? try reinstalling sc4 + rh again. if it still doesn't work , then maybe it's the cd that's missing some data. you can try to ask ea for another copy.

You're too impatient. Read the manual, view the site and learn the basics. All of your questions are simple things that you can learn yourself by just playing the game. Give yourself more time; this is a vast and complex game.

My city Downtown San Francisco currently has 1.7 million inhabinits and yack mate helped me get to 750,000. Yack mate has very good trade and if you connect roads to this city you'll see improvements fast. This city has good commercial trade and good residential trade and I'm not sure About industry but it will help you in commercial and residential. It might not help you as fast as it helped me but if it doesn't there are plenty of other cities to download.

ok i downloaded it, how do i put the city in the game now.

If you downloaded it in a winzip file highlight the file yack mate and extract it into C:\My Documents\SimCity 4\Regions\Downloads. Start the game and import it into a medium sized map, when you go to import it goto downloads and click on the plus sign beside the folder and then select yackmate.

I play that one...and I wait for a long time until I see some highrises. It takes a while on SC4 if I'm not mistaken?

On Rush Hour you'll get highrises much quickly; and more of them as well!

^That's SC4:Rushhour. I've downloaded a couple of buildings from simtropolis( e.g. Sears Tower, the Art Deco building with the pyramid top) , and a couple of mods that make the sim more realistic (pathfinding fix, road top mass transit), but most of those towers are default buildings.

It's my best city yet. I'll post a few more pics in my own thread, as it has grown even more hi-rises since yesterday.

I'm playing the Deluxe version! :D

You're using SC4 for sure. Only SC4 Rush Hour gives a reason for abandonment, not SC4 the original.
