JayT December 1st, 2002, 12:49 AM 111 George Street Twin - not exactly sure of the name?
Hey Gang, this is the 111 George St Twin tower currently under construction on Charlotte St in Brisbane’s CBD. It is yet another office tower and fully leased!
Currently there is just one tower crane at the site and its up to level 2.
Sorry about the quality of the pictures but they are of the model which I took earlier this year.

BrizzyChris December 1st, 2002, 03:41 AM I did have a rendering of it, but I lost it. I don't mind the design too much. I mean, it isn't great, but it matches 111 George very nicely and will just sit quietly next to it, filling in a gap.
JayT December 1st, 2002, 03:45 AM Yeah, its good for fill and density. I also like the sky bridges into Education house next door.
Add Festival towers and there will be quite a nice skyscraper wall along that section of street. The block it sits on will also be one of the most dense in Brisbane with Capital Hill, Education House, The Chifley and George 111 and twin.

finn December 1st, 2002, 04:16 AM It does look nice as the little brother to 111 George, with the similar materials, but different design. I don't know why it feels like a little brother instead of a little sister - the two of them just look masculine rather than feminine. ;)
WÆROM December 1st, 2002, 06:16 AM so this what the 111 geoge st twin will look like. How disappointing. It's not even a twin, it's nowhere near the same height as 111 george street, bares no resembelense to its bigger brother, looks shit and would hide amongst the skyline instead of making its presence within it. disappointing. only good thing is it will make the street more dense.
Mr MacPhisto December 1st, 2002, 11:51 AM I'm ashamed to admit these are the first renderings I can remember seeing of the project.
I like the design. It's a shame it will be overshadowed where it is though.
SUNNI December 1st, 2002, 12:29 PM it dont look so tall, how tall it it?
BrizzyChris December 1st, 2002, 03:00 PM Its only 19 stories. What did everyone expect???

I expected more because it was called the "111 george st twin" which i thought would be a replica of it, just a tiny bit shorter. I didn't even know it was going to be 19 stories. i only knew its name, and im disappointed by the height and design, the roof is ok i guess.
BrizzyChris December 2nd, 2002, 11:17 AM Well, I used to call it 111 George St Stage 2, but someone started calling it a "twin", so I didn't want to confuse anyone.
JayT December 2nd, 2002, 02:56 PM Yeah that was me:D
BTW, what is its propper name?
Can't believe we have a highrise office tower under construction in our CBD we know nothing about - at least I know very little.

Orodreth January 2nd, 2003, 02:47 PM Its called 33 Charlotte Street, there alot happening at the site, all that goes unnoticed. I found a better picture of the model.

BrizzyChris January 2nd, 2003, 04:30 PM I count 18 levels in that diagram.
Orodreth January 2nd, 2003, 11:41 PM I'm going on what the Queensland Government is saying, but I suppose they might be wrong.....
BrizzyChris January 3rd, 2003, 05:38 AM Sometimes they don't count mechanical floors, but you should for ss.com.
Brissy Phil January 3rd, 2003, 06:47 AM Why the hell is it called a Twin??? I am thinking Arnold Schwarzeneggar and Danny Devito here!!!

Well I'm not going to guess for ss.com, so I will put the amount of floors the QLD Government website has stated. Its definately not 19 floors that was first said anyway...
JayT January 6th, 2003, 04:09 PM Love those shots Brissythomas!
I especially love the shot below, you can see 4 different construction sites.
Riparian @ the end of the street.
River City - far right
Felix - top right and of course 33 Charlotte St.
http://www.build.qld.gov.au/aps/33charlottest/01-11-02/photo2.jpg
Soon hopefully Festival towers will rise up in the centre of the pic while River park Central should rise up just to the right of River City in the next few months. Devine also has a mystery site in the middle of the pic to watch.
Its all happening and in a few years you won't recognise that picture as being Brisbane.

Brizbane2 December 8th, 2003, 01:52 AM This tower really is a waste of a good site.
This was arguably the second last site available for govt ofices in the CBD, and they built this little tower.
I think that they should have incorporated some leasable office space into the tower which they could have reaquired later on.

Yeah it would have made a good 'MLC' sydney look alike if they had gone to 70 stories!!

I tend to agree. I was originally enthusiastic about this project, but have since developed the above attitude - I think they should have done something else with the site, such a shame - oh well, that's government for you. By the way - if this was the second last site available for govt offices, what is the last?

I don't know who owns the land but there is the empty site bounded by William, Alice and Margaret Streets, adjacent to the Riverside expressway. Currently used as carpark and right in the middle of the State Govt precinct.
Also I guess, as possible third site, they could actaully use the site that was created after the demolition of the Bellevue Hotel.
nagelixin December 23rd, 2003, 12:22 AM That bit of land is I think owned by the state. It did feature in the Northbank concepts. It was proposed to have a 20+ highrise built on this site.
