Can someone tell me or give me a guide on where to build subways and place the stations and place bus stations because the sims are starting to get a little bit noisier and starting to complain at the population of 70k ( Actually i never expected that ...it came suddenly )...and i don't know where to put the stations because when i put them the sims will not use them, and my city is almost full so i have no place to put up a rail system or train stations...can somebody post a answer please.....and can these reduce the commute time and traffic noise..or just give me some tips on how to place and build them thank you... :sleepy:

at intersections is the best place, although if you've got really long blocks (like some of mine,) then maybe in the middle of the block, too. i like to put them together, which seems to help.

it'll reduce traffic and commute time.

I've read that the sims won't use bus stations which are more than 6 tiles away from their starting or destination point. And for subways its 12 tiles I think.

So I have a systematic city planning. Each block is 5x5 tiles big and surrounded with roads. I put a bus stations on one edge of every second block and reserve another tile beneath the bus stops for future subway stations.

It is of course important that the sims can get to their work with busses and subways. A few bus stations in the residential area are not enough.

In one of my current cities (with ca. 80k sims) are some subway stations which are very heavy used (ca. 200% usage!)

This is a megablock, made up of 4 regular blocks. R = Residential, S = subway, + = intersection. The outside are main roads, the inside, streets.

you can download roadtop stations if you dont think to destroy surroinding buildings.

I mean it is one large block containing many smaller blocks. It's not a technical term, I made it up, but I use this here and there. Considering it creates dead-end roads it makes sims more inclined to use transit - the roads to nowhere but a station strategy, hehe.

You can use the same strategy with bus stops, but you will have to replace it altogether with a subway later when demand goes up. Personally, I don't use a bus network, too inefficient and shoos high-wealth development. Before the subway station, put a park or something there in its place.

If you want to see a working example of these you can go to www.simtropolis.com under game experiements and search for traffic city , subway city and railway city. compare them.

bus and subway stops near each other work well.

you can have them right next to one of the 3x3 park tiles (large plaza, ex.) and you've still got an empty tile in there for more parks, police kiosks, zone, whatever.
