Lukephaz October 6th, 2004, 04:20 AM Chicago is about 8-10hrs driving - but I found the greyhound bus from Toronto to Chicago is pretty good and not too expensive. I recommend the overnight one, it takes about 12hrs but it doesn't feel like 12hrs.

1) Check the city of TO website (www.toronto.ca)
2) Very safe, the rates are comparable to your average European city
3) Bus is cheaper, planes are faster
4) Toronto holds many titles for its ethnic diversity

I beleive train is another option, Amtrak and VIA run a joint route to Chic and NYC from Toronto Union.
Homer J. Simpson October 6th, 2004, 08:38 AM ^I think trains are generally more expensive. A prime example is that it cost $60 to go from Union in TO to Kingston, it would cost alot more to go to Chicago.

I didn't say it was cheap, but it should be cheaper than plane - in theory.

lcohen999 October 6th, 2004, 07:22 PM as for crime, you will find it is pretty much a non-issue.
Our downtown is very alive and the odds of anything happenning anywhere are very low, especially if you hang out in the 'tourist' areas.
One of the best things about Toronto is (worrying about) crime is nothing more than an afterthought

Mr Man October 6th, 2004, 08:25 PM I spent a lot of time there as my ex went to Eastdale CI and I use to work on Gerrard. It's a Great Area!

Actually, it's about the same cost as the bus and sometimes even cheaper - but it's extremely unreliable!

How is a train less reliable than a bus? Traffic = unreliable, busses get caught in traffic, trains don't.
Chinatown east, I remember that stretch of Gerrard. *looks at pics* I've been in Tokyo too long, I can read some of those signs.

You'd think that, but in my experience with the Amtrak from Toronto to Chicago, there are always unexplained delays, changes to the schedule, and even the occassional breakdown that leaves you stranded in the middle of a Michigan cornfield. I think a lot of it has to be due to different priorities and rights of way along the route. And of course, trains do get caught up in traffic too. :P
I'm sure a day time bus that hits the various rush hours would take a little bit longer, but with the overnight bus you're always moving.

Freight trains = hell spawn.
