I can confirm that Whole Foods has provided an intent letter for Minto on this project. They will utilize most of the Bathurst/Front frontage. LCBO is also slated to be joining in as well as a cafe space, which at this time might or might not be Whole Foods related. Its still early folks.

I realize that the focus of this thread is about the upcoming development at this site. Nevertheless, those of you with an interest in Toronto's industrial heritage might find the following post engaging.

I'm a climber at Oasis, and naturally I am sad about the building's impending demolition.

To mark the occasion I have written a (somewhat lengthy) sentimental essay about the Victorian and early 20th century history of the building at this site (the Doty Engine Works), and the heritage context of the surrounding neighbourhood. I also interview Rock Oasis' founder about the history of the climbing gym, and examine the economic forces and policy framework that led to the building's looming destruction.

They are applying for a variance to build taller than allowed. How does someone go about opposing a variance let?

HAH! Forget that group! It sounds like their issues are with Toronto's terrible public transit and not the development of this condo. They should consider redirecting their efforts and seek having public transit properly expanded into Etobicoke and Scarborough and have transit become more accessible in Toronto so there are less cars on the road.

I for one love the renders they posted. Great project.

Last night a frustrated group of about a hundred residents of the Wellington and Niagara neighbourhoods met with city councillor Adam Vaughan and two representatives from development company Minto Freed to discuss the proposal of a massive high-rise condominium complex in the area. The proposed building, at the corner of Bathurst and Niagara, will reach 81 metres in height and add an estimated 1,000 new vehicles to an area already battling serious traffic problems. Residents are concerned about this influx in traffic as well as the impact the building will have on the neighbourhood's historic character.

The future of the proposal remains uncertain. Vaughan is now on record as wanting Minto Freed to withdraw their rezoning application, but acknowledged the company's legal right to pursue the plan further. As for the residents, they remain concerned that if the plan is approved by city council, it will set a precedent for other monolithic developments in the neighbourhood.

I liked the first design but this one is so much better.

A billion times better than the previous render! I love the design direction the latest string of proposals are taking and so happy to see the end of all that sterile floor to ceiling glass. Finally! :)

I also preferred the first design... Squares, cubes and irregularity are cool, but when you have too many buildings like that in one city, it starts to look exaggerated and boring.

We don't have a whole lot of these abstract types of buildings though. We have far more that resemble the first render.

I agree, we could have 20 of these around town and we still wouldn't have that many compared to the rest of the boom styles we've seen. A hand full of buildings in this style are a welcome change in the landscape.

I wouldn't mind seeing a skyscraper clad like that.
