bidonv July 1st, 2011, 02:05 PM Nigerian, Algerian Presidents to Meet on Sahara Gas Pipeline
By Franz Wild and Elisha Bala-Gbogbo - Jun 29, 2011 4:06 PM GMT+0200
Nigeria and Algeria plan to discuss the timeline for the construction of a trans-Sahara pipeline that will take natural gas from both countries to Europe at this week’s African Union summit in Equatorial Guinea.
“We will come up with a clear war plan and timeline for the project,” Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan said today. Africa’s biggest oil producer is looking to private investors to help build the $20 billion gas pipeline project:cheers:, which is expected to be completed by 2015, Jonathan said.
African producers are increasing investments in gas projects as Europe seeks to reduce its dependence on Russia, which accounts for a fifth of its supply of the fuel. Nigeria, Algeria and Niger signed an accord in July 2009 to build the pipeline which will run from the Niger River delta, in southern Nigeria, across Niger to Algeria and then across the Mediterranean Sea to Spain, with possibly a branch going to Italy, according to the Nigerian petroleum ministry.
OAO Gazprom, Total SA (FP) and Eni SpA (ENI) have also shown an interest in developing the 4,127-kilometer (2,565-mile) pipeline, which is 90 percent owned by state oil company Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. and Algeria’s Sonatrach. Niger Republic holds the remaining stake.
Algeria is Africa’s biggest gas producer and Nigeria holds the continent’s largest reserves of about 187 trillion standard cubic feet, data from the ministry showed.
“We promise by 2015, even if it’s not finished, it will be some way to being there,” Jonathan said.

+1
Plus i think they have been talking about this project for many years.
And Algeria and Nigeria are allies in Africa. It will happen.
Naijaborn July 2nd, 2011, 12:02 AM Great Piece of News.
So Nigeria and Algeria will supply Oil and gas Jointly to Europe through the Pipeline??
Will there be a sharing Quota??
DaZed and DiZzy July 2nd, 2011, 12:09 AM I mean it is better for/is for Nigeria
I think they is almost no oil in the extreme south
I really do not know if they will be fees or not
this way it is more cheaper than moving the material by boat
Xusein July 2nd, 2011, 01:31 AM Sounds like a good idea, cooperation between African countries is always a good thing.
Janub July 2nd, 2011, 02:57 AM Sad that only one of those 2 countries actually puts the oil money back into the country. This is something to celebrate in Algeria but nothing special in Nigeria.
Naijaborn July 2nd, 2011, 04:35 AM ^^ And How did U come to that conclusion??
The two countries {Nigeria and Algeria} are two starkly different entities.

I think that they will set up a JV,this last will charge transport cost to Nigeria (exporter) in any case it’s a better option than exporting LNG.:)
popa1980 July 3rd, 2011, 05:01 PM How deep will it be?
I would like to see the WAGP extended up to Senegal.

Tbite July 3rd, 2011, 08:10 PM Oh man Nigeria needs to produce as much Gas as possible.
Naijaborn July 3rd, 2011, 09:35 PM ^^ Why do you say that??
Yoniii July 3rd, 2011, 09:58 PM A pipeline from Algeria to Morocco? Are they allies now?

Gas can do wonders for the Nigerian economy.
The way things are...with the Nigerian economy...Gas is actually more important than Oil. We don't refine enough oil, we don't manufacture enough products, so we are basically just exporting crude oil and not exploiting petroleum products etc....however Gas on the other hand....we can make as much money from Gas as we are making from Oil..AND gas will help our domestic energy consumption as well as the electricity production...which will increase investments into the country, improve productivity and bolster the economy, the more Gas we produce the faster our economy will grow.
So Just by increasing Gas Production we would have improved Nigeria in like 10 different ways. Gas will double our budget and keep increasing it indirectly.....You can even power vehicles with natural gas and that is cleaner then petrol/diesel....the only thing we can't do with Gas is make petroleum products such as plastics and oil products that we barely produce anyway.
Gas is important. Gas is the best fossil fuel.

abdeka July 3rd, 2011, 11:22 PM The whole trench was open apart from a few crossing points. The width was around 5.0m, and depth around 4.0m, and a good deal through rock.
The pipes were being welded together above ground, then fed in as a continuous "flexible" pipe. No shortage of sand to surround the pipe though

aach2006 July 4th, 2011, 06:56 PM @dexter159 this is how it works, in exchange of using the moroccan soil ;) even tunisians get some gaz for free ;)

No one got mad, the pipeline pass through the moroccan territory, that's why you can get a small part of it, same for Tunisia with the Algeria-Italy pipeline.
