LOS ANGELES - After hosting the Summer Olympics in 1932 and 1984, the City of Angels may submit a bid for the Games.
The City Council unanimously endorsed a proposal Wednesday to vie for the Summer Games as early as 2016. The city has bid for the Olympics at least 10 times.
"Los Angeles is a world-class city with world-class venues and world-class spirit," said the plan's chief backer Councilman Tom LaBonge.
The 1984 Games were the most financially successful Summer Games in history, raking in $225 million in profit.
Money Man October 10th, 2004, 08:15 PM Not only is L.A. the only city to host two Olympics, but if three Summer Olympics, L.A. is definety the coolest city in the world, and some people say it isn't a world class city? :bash:

Haven't London, Paris and Athens hosted two Olympic games also? London and Paris will probably get to three first, but LA will get there for sure. We are so ready to remake our city one more time and invited the whole world to celebrate in our ever bourgeoning megalopolis
Money Man October 13th, 2004, 03:10 AM I meant to say Two Summer Olympics.
samsonyuen October 13th, 2004, 10:37 AM The difference is London and Paris haven't gotten a games since before WWII, and LA only had one 24 years ago.
Alexander21 October 13th, 2004, 10:40 AM London hosted the Games in 1948, after WWII.
If New York wins the right to host the 2012 Games I dont think that the IOC would give it to Los Angeles in 2016.
Wilko October 30th, 2004, 02:05 AM America Again???

No offence dude! I'm interested in LA athough I know very little about the city. I can certainly tell you that LA is not seen that way through the eyes of soooo many outside the US! However, I'll congratulate anyone that can put on as good a show as SYDNEY'S 2000 OLYMPICS!!!!
Sadly, Los Angelas is used as a roll model city by urban planners in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth Australia on how not to plan or build it's cities. Not my words, but, LA is described as an urban nightmare, a sprawl with no heart but plenty of crime! Is it worthy of hosting an olympics now?
If America has to host the olympics again!! Can it please be in a city we know little of like Seattle or Houston or somewhere! Maybe give it to your cousins in Canada. Let Vancouver host the Summer and winter olympics. That would be cool

Athens have had hundreds :P even if they were hundreds of years ago lol.
LA again? i think it should be another US city if the US bid, i dunno. just three times, thats pushing it. they gave it to london and paris and athens a few times because when they started the modern games, it was a french guy, and well london was the best city in the world, back then.

Not worthy? That's extremely hypocritical. The huge reason why cities INCLUDING Sydney wanted to host the Olympics is BECAUSE of what LA did for it.
The Olympics didn't really make any money until LA got it. Then it brought in 225 million dollars, and now you see the flurry of cities trying to bid for it thinking it is a moneymaker.
It definitely is prepared to host the Olympics as the sports facilities are top notch and are still have the best facilities in the world.
Whether or not LA will, is up to the committee to decide, although I agree that twice is more than enough.
samsonyuen October 31st, 2004, 08:40 AM I think there should be a 50-year grace period. Spread the love...share the joy type thing. That leaves all the cities bidding for 2012 fair play except for Moscow. If NY wins, LA can forget about it. I think LA's still the only city that has made such a profit to this day.
SDCAx March 20th, 2007, 04:10 AM As much as I love la, I agree other cities that have not had a chance to host an olympics should get priority.
Fern~Fern* March 20th, 2007, 04:17 AM ^^ There's already an Olympic Bid Thread open... Newbie!
