View Full Version : Good business for a young person to start.
Rapid October 9th, 2004, 02:31 AM What are some good businesses a teen can start and make some temporary cash?
I dont want to work in McDonalds because that makes me fell like a bum. I dont want any weak suggestions such as cookie or lemonade stand, because many top executives managed businesses that were selling to top companies when they were as young as 14.
Dong Ha Lee October 9th, 2004, 05:30 AM Work for sports shops.. i.e. Sportscheck, foot locker. Sell lots of shoes, get promoted and manage the place. Shovelling driveways always work as well. (I'm serious)

You have to work your ass off to get promoted in one of those places, but I dont have the time for that kind of work. I'm thinking in the lines of a summer small business.

Munch November 20th, 2004, 01:09 PM In my honest opinion, there are generally two things that can work. Find a commodity people want and provide it cheaper. The extreme (and illegal) example is drugs, i am not suggesting that but look at its appeal and intake.
So, you have to look internationally, when i was 13-14 i was importing products from Hong Kong and selling them, casually, through a network of word of mouth. Worked brilliantly, handled goods in excess opf 10's of thousands, however in reality i was breaching allsorts of license and customs laws.
The other thing that works, that doesn't make much money to start with but works wonders for your reputation, is media. you should find enough reason to slap together a newspaper of sorts and you can get people top work for you for free by accentuating all the important sides for when it comes to applying to university ets. You have a lot of time, you commit yourself now you can take it far, it has to be free though but you can build up revenue from advert sales.
ReddAlert November 20th, 2004, 10:49 PM ideas..
1) Antiques---study, find, and sell antiques (old fishing lures are selling high)
2)pick up cans/glass bottles you find on the street...this sounds stupid and embarrasing..and i dont know where your from..but wisconsinites can take our cans to michigan for 10 cents a can. It would add up.
3)be a treasure hunter..-if you live near a desert-try finding opal and things like that...or use a metal detector to find old stuff
4)look for rewards..-lost animals..stuff like that...you can make 200 bucks for some peoples animals
5)work seasonal jobs
lol, just a couple ideas to make cash..not to glamourous though. If you wanna be "glamourous", then sell drugs, guns, rob banks, burglery stuff like that. However, then you would have to go out into the highway and pick up cans anyway, however you wont get 10 cents for them--because youd be in prison. lol

Why didn't you say that.
easysurfer December 17th, 2004, 04:28 PM try not to be too greedy in life. If you not willing to put serious hard work into a business don't bother. Try growing money trees with magic fairy dust.

good advice, but it doesn't apply to me. I want the reputation.
Koz December 20th, 2004, 07:55 AM Reputation comes with time. If you think you'll be the next wonder kid simply because you "want" a rep, you've got a lot of dissapointments coming.
Do something you're good at, and figure out how to make money by doing it. I started making cash selling baby fish that bred in my aquarium. This was age 13, had I continued it I could have turned that operation into a sizable business by now. Opportunities come and go, it's up to you to latch on and hang on.
Vlad the Great December 20th, 2004, 05:29 PM Get into stocks. That's what I'm into now.
Great money if you know what you're doing, but it won't get you a rep.
However, you can use the money you earn to start something up and then be able to get one. :)
Of course, I also work at a dead-end job in McDonalds. Don't think for a second that this won't help you. Nothing is better in business than a reputation of a hard worker.
The drawback is that the job sucks. :D
Hope this answers you're question! Lata fellas! :D
