I was also wondering that, and thought it was temporary because Forbes did not list him as the world's richest. He will probably loose the title in some months. This also happened with the Walton family. Out of the World's richest canidates, nobody's net worth is as solid as Gates' fortune.

I got my source from Forbes.com, a company who specializes in keeping track of business, real estate, money, and who has money. They are known world wide, and are the biggest in the business.

Let's wait and see if Forbes updates their list and Ingvar Kamprad comes on top. If that happens, then it is confirmed.

I dont think per capita really matters in the number of billionaires if you think about it. It would be harder to become a billionaire in a country with more people with more businesses and more compitition.

Surely it would be easier in the US, to get a billion dollars you need a lot of people to be buyng your goods/services. the US is a bigger market. Really billionairs need world markets to get that rich.

Lots of people in the UK are millionaires because houses are expensive and have risen in value. Even Teachers may find they own 1/2 a million pound houses in London.

Well, China's economic growth started not long ago, billionares don't just pop up one day especially when China has so many people, competition is high and earning a living is hard. But China as a whole has a few billionares in Hong Kong, no.19 and 22

I know the Saudi royal family is on there, but they did earn their money through commerce. Namely selling oil and investing in shares.
