the railway station of strasbourg is an historic monument.fronts of this great work will be renoved and covered by a spectacular transparent glass structure or "sun lounge" of 2000 sqm.the public square in front of the station, the underground area under the public square, all the railway station district will be renoved and expanded for arrival of the TGV for 2006-2007. a fantastic overall planning was created. 150 millions euros workings.architect of rail station's renovation is Jean-Marie Dutilleul, AREP/SNCF.

The Vessel

Introduction
In late 2004, early 2005, the Vessel, the science end technology learning centre, will be opening its doors. The idea came about following the successful "Children's Village" exhibition, staged by the Cité des Sciences in 1998 on the invitation of the Bas Rhin general council. The project is now in its final stage and on 4 October 2003, the foundation stone was laid, in a ceremony involving a number of personalities and partners of the project (the City of Strasbourg, the Bas Rhin Département, the Region of Alsace and the Upper Rhine). A webcam, specially set up for the duration, shows how the building is coming along.

What is the Vessel ?
The Vessel is a building covering some 4 200 m² , and built on a single level to make it accessible to all visitors, including disabled people.
It sets out to give children aged from 3 to 15, an enjoyable introduction to science, through an interactive, sensorial environment. It is also, of course, a highly useful teaching tool for teacher, with 105 individually-designed interactive exhibits.

The Vessel is a marvellous area, packed full of educational games and surprises, where children can learn touch, share, look, question and compare in their own time and at their own pace, through eye-catching, easy-to-do experiments and imaginative design.

Secrets of the image.
The Vessel is also:

a centre for temporary exhibitions ;

A specially-designed garden covering 5 000 m2, for learning, relaxing and also for exploring.

we have to add the access viaduct of each bank :

total length of the work : 968 meters
cost of the work : 75 millions euros. france 54 %, germany 39 %, europe 7 %
the brigde is completed and open since fall 2003.

second shopping center planned in strasbourg "Les Passages de l'Etoile"
after shopping center "La Place des Halles" built in the "80" eighties, a new shopping center is planned in the center of strasburg, unique in france for a "regional" city.this new center called "Les Passages de l'Etoile" will open in 3-4 years : workings 2005-2008. this programm will offer 23 000 sqm shops and 8000 sqm offices. 55 millions euros.

Beurk... ça fait froid dans le dos quand on voit ce qu'ils vont faire de ce si beau bâtiment...

ils ne vont pas toucher à ce batiment tu vois bien ils ne vont que l'emballer ! ils vont rénover à fond le batiment historique ! ne ten fait pas ! moi ce projet çà m'emballe vraiment !

C'est vrai que c'est parfaitement moche : on dirait qu'ils vont l'enfermer dans une bulle "temporaire", comme si c'était une charpente pour des travaux, mais non, c'est le projet final !

Sinon on pourrait dire que strasbourg est la capitale de l'europe pour 2 raisons, et on pourrait dire le contraire pour plein de raisons :

POUR :

* parlement européen à strasbourg
* quand on regarde la carte c'est vrai qu'elle est vraiment à un point bien central de l'europe !

CONTRE :

* Strasbourg, c'est peanut par rapport à des dixaines de villes (paris, londres, berlin, frankfort, madrid, etc)

* Ou est le métro ? le quartier d'affaires typique d'une ville super importante ? (gratte-ciel je parle, pas du low) ; ou est le million d'habitants manquant ?

Pour moi la capitale de l'europe, c'est Bruxelles, strasbourg c'est bien, mais bon...

Sinon y'a de belles choses. Sauf Arte ;)

Strassbourg is one of favourite small cities in the world. It seems so much larger than what it really is, and is truely a beautiful and magnificent place. Thanks for your excellent run down, including the maps and the pictures.

It is also a facinating place due to the German city Kehl being within the metro area. How amazing that must be to be part of a city within two seperate country's. The food choices alone must be amazing.

A couple of questions.

1) That footbridge (below), where exactly is it (do you have a map?), and is there anything worth walking too on each side? I would love to cross this bridge.

2) Is the new train station redevelopment really going ahead as this plan? It looks amazing, and I would love to see this!

Year, I live in Frankfurt. Been to strasbourg a couple of times, the last time last year (link to gallery (http://www.pbase.com/jchambers/strasbourg))

Frankfurt's ok, but nothing special. I do have a nice apartment with great views of the city though (Frankfurt gallery here (http://www.pbase.com/jchambers/frankfurt_am_main))

yes but frankfurt does offer a great cultural life ! great museums, great scrapers and ....what would be my life without frankfurt's Eros Centers ? nothing i need it !

Oui la salle au fond est pour le Imax, on peut d'ailleurs y acceder des 2 etages.Quand je suis allé voir le roi Arthur j'ai galéré pour trouver la salle je me souvenais plus ou elle était.
sinon moi j'habite à Geispolsheim-Gare.Pour l'instant j'ai juste fait le Thread sur le nouveau tram de stras mais je pense qu'il y a suffisement de liens sur interent pour faire des threads sur l'alsace, sur des projets précis de stras...
Sinon est ce que la photo floue des fronts de neudorf, tu l'as scannée des DN ou du dossier avec les dépliants de la foire européenne, ou est ce que cela provient d'un site? j'aimerais bien connaitre quelques sites sur strasbourg.

lepied je pense à des villages corses, bretons ou du nord de la france.
sinon il y a des noms de villages en alsace assez amusants à prononcer :
-niederschaeffolsheim, oberschaeffolsheim, scharrachbergheim, krautergersheim, reinhardsmunster, mittelhausbergen, hartmannswillerkopf..etc

J'aime beaucoup l'architecture du Parlement Européen...Il s'intègre parfaitement a son environement, et au reste de la ville...
Strasbourg, une ville pionnière en réalisant un des plus grand réseau de tramway jusqu'a aujourd'hui...!!! Exemple a suivre...

Sinon, pour les noms des villages en region, la Normandie est pas mal non plus:
Caucriauville, Octeville, Angerville, Gonfreville...

oui j'aime assez la façade très fluide et pure, c'est du Architecture Studio !

J'aime beaucoup aussi, la fleche de la cathedrale qui domine la ville...C'est une ville qui represente bien La France des années 2000...
