President: Iran's Non-Oil Exports Up by 42%

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced that the country's non-oil exports increased by 42% in the first three months of the current Iranian year (March 21 to June 21, 2011).

"Iran's non-oil exports experienced a 42% growth in the last three months," Ahmadinejad said in a cabinet meeting on Sunday.

He also reiterated that if Iran continues the current trend of growth, the country's non-oil exports will reach $45bln by March 2012.

"This will be a great event aspired by many," Ahmadinejad said.

Earlier, Iranian First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi had underscored that Iran has the capability to further decrease the role of oil in its budget revenues, and said Tehran plans to boost non-oil exports to $45bln this year.

"Creating 2.5mln job opportunities all across the country and increasing Iran's non-oil exports to $45bln are on the agenda of the government (this year)," Rahimi said in the Northern province of Semnan in May.

Stressing that attaining the aforementioned goals needs hardworking and industriousness of the people and government, the Iranian vice-president praised Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei's initiative in naming the Iranian new year (March 21, 2011 to March 20, 2012) as 'the Year of Economic Jihad'.

In a Nowrouz (Persian New Year) congratulatory message Ayatollah Khamenei called for concerted efforts by the Iranian nation and officials to prepare the grounds for a decade of economic growth.

Iran had earlier announced that it plans to boost its non-oil exports to $80bln within the next five years.

According to a cabinet approval signed and issued in March by a number of cabinet ministers who are also members of Iran's High Council for the Promotion of Non-Oil Exports (HCPE), the country's non-oil exports in the current Iranian year will raise to $43bln out of which $31bln will be gained through exporting goods and $12bln through exporting services.

The approval also predicted a gradual growth for Iran's non-oil exports in coming years, and said the country's non-oil exports will increase to $43bln, $50.5bln, $59bln, $69bln and $80bln in the next five years, respectively.

According to official reports, Iran's non-oil products are exported to 160 countries of the world. China, Iraq, United Arab Emirates, India, Afghanistan, Turkey, Pakistan, Taiwan, the Republic of Korea and Belgium are the main destinations and markets of the Iranian products.

Tehran hosts Persian Carpet Exhibition

Saman Kojouri, Press TV, Tehran

Different types of Persian carpets have been put on display in the 10-day festival in Tehran.
Carpet-weaving is undoubtedly one of the most distinguished manifestations of Persian culture and art, which dates back to ancient Persia.
According to official sources, Iran's export of Persian carpets reached almost 450 million dollars in 2010 with the weight volume of nearly 7 thousand tones.
There is an estimated population of 1.2 million weavers in Iran, producing carpets for domestic markets and international export.
Iran exports carpets to more than 100 countries, as hand-woven rugs are one of its main non-oil export items.
One of the interesting parts of this exhibition is nomad carpets section.
Carpets and kilims are important for the daily life of the nomads. Keeping their own animals provides them with materials for their weavings.
The most important importers of Persian carpet include the U.S., Germany, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon and Japan.

There are reports that Iran's oil export will bring about 95-100 billion for Iran. Plus the 45 billion non-oil exports, we should have an income from about 150 billion dollars. This would be a record for us.

Iran merges ministries to boost export

While in Iran the merger of ministries according to article 53 of the country's fifth five-year development plan continues to make headlines government officials say merging the ministry of Industries and mines with the ministry of commerce will help Iran move away from an oil-based economy.

Representatives of the two ministries have explained how.

Ahmad Khadem Al-Melle, Iran's Deputy Minister of Industries & Mines says: "In order for the new ministry of industries, mines and trade to pave the way for more non-oil exports our team of experts has carefully studied the potential markets in countries that we do business with, and we have defined 400 different projects that we have the capacity to carry out in those courtiers… this will revolutionize our industrial and economic structure … In line with our policy to boost non-oil exports we will also support and empower the private sector".

Iranian officials say the private sector can play a very important role because Iran's 75-million-strong market is not something businesspeople can easily ignore. Even European entrepreneurs are still keen to do business despite US pressure. Exports to Europe have increased by 14% only in the first six months of 2011 and according to statistics Iran's non-oil exports which used to make up only 18% of the country's total trade in 2005 have now increased to 30% while in the same period Iranian officials have managed to decrease imports from 80 to 70% of the total trade.

According to head of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran, Hamid Safdel, the governement has managed to export goods and services worth 36 billion dollars last year and this year we've set the target at 45 billion dollars. Considering that non-oil exports in the first three months of the year have reached 10 billion dollars the government can easily hit the target of 45 billion dollars that has been set for this year.

Iran exported only one unit of non-oil goods and services for every three units of imports in 2005. Today exports have grown by 26% to a 2 to one proportion. Now the officials have set the target to balance out imports and exports; knowing that the promotion of value added export of indigenous products requires a well-planned road map.

Boosting non-oil exports is one of the main objectives of this merger and the proposed minister Mehdi Ghazanfari will be presenting his plan to the parliament at the end of the month.

Tabriz, East Azarbaijan prov, July 25, IRNA - Hand-woven carpets worth $5.5 million were exported to China last year (ended March 20), said head of Iran's National Carpet Center.

Stating that a good leap is seen in carpet export in 2010, he also noted that if carry-on-luggage is added to the amount of export in 2010, the figure will rise considerably.

The increasing trend of carpet export to China indicates that grounds are prepared for raising exports to the country, Mardasi said.

Referring to holding two carpet exhibitions in China during the past four months and dispatch of a commercial delegation to the country, he said that given the high capacity of the Chinese market, Iranian merchants can promote their exports to the country.

Energy Min: Iran to export 250,000 megawatts of electricity to Iraq in 2012
Tehran, July 26, IRNA -- IRI Energy Minister said here Monday Iran is exporting 800 megawatts to Iraq now, which would increase to 250,000 megawatts in summer of 2012 after completion of electricity export project to that country.
Energy Min: Iran to export 250,000 megawatts of electricity to Iraq in 2012
According to an IRNA Economic Desk reporter, Majid Namjou who was speaking on the sidelines of his talks with the Iraqi Electricity Minister Raad Shalal Saeid added in a meeting with the press, “Putting to use the 400 kilowatt Karkheh line was among the axes of our talks and keeping in mind the moves made by both sides, we hope by the summer of next year this capacity for exporting electricity to Iraq would be operationalized.”
He said that the other project emphasized by the Iraqi side in our talks was the Khorramshahr-Abu Folus line, adding, “By dispatching teams of technicians and solving the existing problems the difficulties related to this line, too, would be eliminated and in the summer of 2012 the capacity of our country for exporting electricity to Iraq would reach the 1,250 megawatts limit.”
Namjou referred to his meeting with the Iraqi Electricity Minister a while ago on the margins of the Vienna Conference on New Energies, adding, “In that meeting in order to expand bilateral cooperation in electricity field, the ministers of the two countries visited the electricity facilities of each others’ countries and studied the ground for cooperation.”
The Energy Minister added, “The Iraqi Electricity Minister has come to Iran and he would visit the various parts of the Iranian electricity industries.”
According to Namjou, the Iraqi Electricity Minister would in his visit of Iran also visit the Mapna Industrial Complex, which is manufacturing gas turbines and generators.
The Energy Minister referred to Iraq’s debts to Iran for the exported electricity to that country, saying, “The Iraqi side has promised to pursue the matter and see into its proper payment.”
According to Namjou, the construction and installment of the power generator needed for this project, and the required repairs, constructing the distribution and synchronizing posts of the two countries’ electricity networks were the other axes of the two countries’ negotiations, for pursuing which groups of technicians of the two countries would be established.
He added, “In order to implement these programs the draft of a letter of understanding has been prepared to be signed by the two sides and the Iraqi side would at the end of its visit of Iran express its opinion on the matter.
Focusing on synchronizing the two countries’ electricity networks, Namjou said that the most important factor in exporting electricity is that the two countries’ electricity networks would be synchronized with each other.
He added, “Keeping in mind the differences in the level of qualities of the country’s electricity, in order to materialize the export objective, it has been agreed that facilities at a region in the importer country would synchronize the imported electricity before connecting it with the Iraqi electricity network.”
The Energy Minister said that thanks to employing modern technologies, and the advancements in our country’s electricity network, in very near future we would be able to export electricity to other countries resorting to modern technologies.

Iran to Increase Technical Exports

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian economic official announced that the country plans to boost the volume of export of its technical and engineering services to $4.5bln by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20)

Sohrab Salimi, an official with Iran Trade Development Organization, reiterated on Wednesday that the country has exported $604mln worth of engineering and technical services during the first four months of the Iranian calendar year.

Most of the exported services have been sent to Belarus, Salimi said.

Other importers of Iran's technical services included Tajikistan, Azerbaijan and Pakistan, the official added.

Earlier, an Iranian trade official had announced that Iran's exports of technical and engineering services to the other countries in 2009 have surpassed $3bln worth in value despite the ongoing global economic recession.

"During 1387 (March 2008 to March 2009) a total number of 81 projects with a (total) value of $2.5bln have been concluded and the average value for each project stood at $31mln, while the number of projects concluded during the last year (2009-2010) reached 58 with an average value of 48mln (for each project)," Deputy Head of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran for Trade Assistance Kioumars Fathollah Kemanshahi said in 2010.

'Iran's carpet export to China 12-fold'

An Iranian official says the Islamic Republic's exports of hand-woven Persian carpets to China multiplied 12 times in the Iranian calendar year of 1389 (ending March 20, 2011) compared to the previous year.

“While until the [Iranian calendar] year 1388 (ending March 20, 2010), the annual exports of hand-woven Persian carpets to China was USD 400 thousand in value, in the year 1389 (ending March 20, 2011) the value rose to USD 5 million,” Chairman of Iran's National Carpet Center Faisal Mardassi said, IRIB reported.

However, he pointed out that the new figure is still small considering the large Chinese market.

Chairman of Iran's National Carpet Center further said that Iran's carpet exports to China have the potential to be increased to USD 50 million.

According to official sources, Iran's overall export of carpets reached almost USD 450 million in 2010 with a weight volume of nearly 7,000 tons.

Iran exports carpets to more than 100 countries, as the country's hand-woven rugs are one of its main non-oil export products.

Experts attribute the increasingly lucrative market for Persian carpets worldwide to the quality of the rugs as well as their color and design.

Go and google "Iran GDP growth." Click on that little Google chart that comes up. We haven't had a recession since 1994. Then add saudi arabia to the chart and compare their annual growth with Iran over the past decade. Since 1994, our growth has been higher then KSA for the majority of the years. Saudi arabia is the same country that exports more than 8 million barrels of oil per day (compared to our 2 million and change export figure this is remarkably higher).

IMF's recent report overestimates economic growth in Iran

[09.08.2011 10:26]

Azerbaijan, Baku, August 6 /Trend T.Konyayeva/

The recent report of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), most likely based on data provided by the Iranian government, overestimates the economic growth and underestimates the actual rate of inflation in Iran, experts believe.

"It is near impossible, without serious economic declines, to have massive subsidies taken away from the population of a country and not have inflation except when prices are controlled, which is just another way of delaying the inevitable inflation," Paul Sullivan, Professor of Economics at the U.S. National Defense University and Georgetown University, wrote Trend in an email.

On Thursday, August 4, the IMF published a report saying Iran’s economic growth has accelerated and cuts in subsidies have been achieved without sharp increases in inflation, improving the outlook for further gains, Bloomberg reported.

Growth accelerated to 3.2 percent in 2010-2011 from 0.6 percent two years earlier, the report said. According to it, the inflation rate only rose by about 4 percentage points in the first five months of this year, to 14.2 percent, even after subsidies for energy and food were scrapped.

The measures will remove as much as $60 billion in subsidies, or 15 percent of Iran’s gross domestic product (GDP), the IMF said. That will "increase the efficiency and competitiveness of the economy, improve income distribution, reduce poverty and help Iran unlock its full growth potential," the IMF said.

In December, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad launched the economic reform plan in an effort to overhaul the country's economy through shelving energy and food subsidies.

According to Sullivan, it is quite likely that these data are supplied by the Iranian authorities and that some of them have been "creatively developed".

"The IMF normally takes its data from the government of the country they are looking at. There could be other sources, such as international bank data, etc., but given how restricted trade and financial transactions are for Iran these would not be easily found," he told.

As to the nature of figures provided by the Iranian authorities, Sullivan said: "Iran is having great difficulties getting paid for its oil, and I wonder if they are simply putting the expected payments in as part of their economic estimates and are not putting in the actual received amounts."

U.S. sanctions do not ban purchases of Iranian crude, but they pose obstacles for foreign banks to pay Iran the hard currency that makes up around 50 percent of government total revenue. This week, Indian refiners began paying oil debts after a seven-month attempts to find a way to get their overdue money to Tehran.

Since December, 2010, India and Iran try to find ways for New Delhi to pay for imports of 400,000 barrels per day or 12 percent of its oil demand after the Reserve Bank of India halted a clearing mechanism under U.S. pressure.

On August 1, the National Iranian Oil Company said the two sides had agreed to settle the bill as soon as possible and the payments would be made in two parts, with the first being paid in the coming days.

Later, on August 3, Korean government sources with direct knowledge of the situation told Iran could have nearly $5 billion of cash trapped in South Korea by the end of the year as sanctions stop it repatriating money from oil sales, Reuters reported.

Furthermore, Sullivan thinks, given the sanctions and other constraints Iran finds itself under a large amount of its economy is not registered, untaxed, and either in the gray or black markets.

"Therefore, most official data has limited meaning," he said.

According to Professor Reza Taghizadeh, the IMF recent report has highly exaggerated the success of the Iranian government's efforts to control inflation, and the improved outlook of the country's GDP for 2011.

"It also contradicts so sharply, its own estimation of Iran's economic performance, prepared about 6 month ago, predicting 0 economic growth in 2011," Taghizadeh, a member of Trend Expert Council, wrote in an email.

He thinks this report has been made only after two short visits to Tehran by Dominique Guillaume, a deputy division manager of IMF, and his consultation with Iranian government's representatives.

"In other words, IMF report shares Iranian government false optimism and not the hard facts about Iran's macro and micro economic performances," Taghizadeh told.

The expert says the Iranian government has refused, in the course of last three years, to publish data about Iran's annual economic growth even on the face of media and parliamentary members frequent demands.

"Now, after two short visits in May and June to Tehran, IMF representative has come to the conclusion that Iran, all of a sudden, has made 3.5 per cent economic growth out of nowhere," Taghizadeh told. "All economic observers familiar with Iran's economy have treated the IMF recent report with deep skepticism."

IMF has long been an advocate of cutting subsidies by the developing countries, so the recent report is an effort by IMF to help the Iranian government to carry on with its plan, regardless of the midterm consequences, the expert believes.

"But Iran's industrial output in the course of last six month has been down and unemployment increased while stagnation affected further price increase," Taghizadeh wrote.

Early July, the Head of the Parliament's Energy Commission Hamidreza Katouzian said that Iran's oil production decreased by 72,000 bpd compared to 2008.

The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries has released a report saying Nigeria with 2,248,000 barrels output daily has replaced Iran, the second largest oil producer. However, later, Iranian OPEC Governor Mohammad Ali Khatibi rejected reports that Iran is listed after Nigeria in the oil cartel ranking.

This week the U.S. Government Accountability Office published a 26-page report found 20 of the 41 companies, known to have worked in the Iranian energy sector and listed in a 2010 report, recently halted commercial work there. Those that withdrew said it was becoming too difficult to do business in Iran.

Taghizadeh noted Iran's economic performances depend highly on the oil prices. "The high oil prices in the international markets have increased the government's hard currency earnings, and IMF has simply converted the income into the increased GDP," he said.

"Such a report is not saying where has it got the indicators, stating Iranian's improved living standards? The report is also wrong about the recipients of the Iranian government's direct payment as it says that the poorest sector of the society receive the cash payouts, where as the right to receive the cash is equal for every one," Taghizadeh concluded.

The exports of Iranian agricultural produce has increased to USD 21 billion in value in the past six years (2006-2011), says Iran's Agricultural Jihad Minister Sadeq Khalilian.

“The export of the agricultural produce has reached USD 21 billion as of the [Persian calendar] year of 1384 (started March 21, 2005),” Khalilian was quoted as saying by IRNA.

Putting Iran's production volume of wheat at 2.23 million in the previous Persian calendar year, Khalilian stated that the Islamic Republic is pursuing self-sufficiency in the production of the grain in the coming two years.

In November, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced plans to boost the country's annual production of agricultural goods to over 200 million tons within four years.

Iran Exports 86 tons of Saffron in One Year

TEHRAN (FNA)- Secretary of Iran's Saffron National Council Farshid Manouchehri announced that the country had exported more than 86 tons of the precious spice in the last Iranian year (March 21, 2010-March 20, 2011).

Close to 86 tons of the precious herb were exported in the year to March 20. This is while, saffron exports stood at 67 tons in the previous year (ended March 2010), Manouchehri said.

The official put the average price of saffron at between $2,200 and $2,500 per kilogram in global markets, adding the country's revenues from saffron export reached $215-$220 million in the last Iranian year (ended March 20).

Saffron whose botanical name is crocus sativus is the most expensive spice in the world.

Derived from the dried reddish-purple stigmas of the saffron crocus, it takes anything from 70,000 to 250,000 flowers to make one pound of saffron.

The flowers have to be individually handpicked in autumn when they are fully bloomed.

The delicate flowers are harvested only in mid-autumn. The flowers begin to grow after the first rains and the blooming period is usually mid-October when the temperature is just right.

Red gold is mainly cultivated in Kashmir, Iran, and southern Europe, particularly Spain with Iran being the world's top producer of the spice.

Due to its diverse climate and fertile soil, Iran's agriculture products are rated among the best in the world with saffron being no exception.

Iran's saffron production has in the past decade been increasing steadily, most of which is exported overseas, mainly to the United Arab Emirates, Spain, Japan, Turkmenistan, France, Italy and the US.

But saffron also has medicinal applications and a long history in traditional healing for the treatment of a variety of ailments such as menstrual pain, menopausal problems, depression, chronic diarrhea and neuralgia--modern medicine has also discovered saffron as having ant carcinogenic (cancer-suppressing) and antioxidant-like properties.

Iran Daily cited Mr Mohammad Behzad deputy energy minister for electricity and energy of Iran as saying that about USD 1 billion worth of electricity will be exported the end of the current Iranian year.

Mr Behzad said that USD 3 billion worth of technical and engineering services in the power sector are expected to be exported by yearend. Useful measures have been taken for the exchange of electricity with other countries.

The official said that there were no serious problems in supplying electricity to Mehr Housing Scheme projects. The ministry has prioritized the supply of electricity to Mehr housing units, noting that housing construction in Parand Township outpaced electricity supply but this would be solved in the near future.

Mr Hamid Reza Salehi secretary of Iranian Power Industry Syndicate said earlier that Iran has the potential to become the hub for power generation in the region. At present, given its unique geographical position and the difference in peak consumption of electricity in different seasons, Iran can eventually become the electrical hub in the region. It is very likely that Iran can be transformed into the corridor for the transfer of electricity between eastern and western Asian states.

He said that USD 10 billion will be generated by ceding export of electrical power to the private sector. Transferring the authority for exporting electrical power to the private sector is included in the Fifth Five-Year Economic Developmental Plan.

Iran's Non-oil Exports to Reach $80 bln
Iran tends to boost its non-oil exports during the next few years via development of its logistics, a senior official said.

The Islamic Republic of Iran tends to increase its non-oil exports to $80 billion during its Fifth Development Plan (2011-2015), deputy minister of industries, mines and trade, Hamid Safdel, said on Wednesday.
Referring to the role played by logistics in increasing countries' trade, he said that studies by the World Bank show that among the countries having same per capita income those enjoying developed logistics enjoy a further trade and GDP growth.
"In those countries, trade and GDP growth were respectively 2 percent and 1 percent higher than in the countries deprived of logistics," he added.
Safdel said that Iran also tends to develop its logistics and by the end of the fifth development plan, the country's non-oil exports will surpass $80 billion.

all it matters is that it's growing.
we're under a gizzallion rounds of sanctions and the non-oil has been growing every year. Remember, the sanctions are actually designed to hit the non-oil sector. Plus, we have 100 billion + in oil exports so there's money in the banks.

i wonder how this money is allocated i mean is there a bill of congress or something showing on what the government yearly spends the oil-money? Cuz if you believe this info we can all do some basic math.

100 billion Oilmoney + about 40 billion non oilmoney = 140 billion export

About 140 billion export - 40 billion import = 100 billion trade surplus

blablabla inflation etc, i wont bore you guys, but still it kinda doesnt add up on how much there is been coming in over the last 5 years with the high oilprices and how fast the economy is growing,,, it should have a exponential effect due to the internal market/ housing market etc.

Look at figure 3. The distribution of Oil money... If you look at the retrained earnings, these are not justified. Its 14.5% that would be 14.5 billion for this year... This is about the total investment of Shell in Iraq for coming years (17 billion) to exploit the full excess gas from the oil fields... It just isn't right. Only 1% precent goes to Khuzestan redevelopment and environmental control. I just can't believe that 14.5 billion will be needed to be retained in the National Oil company without even considering R&D and development goes that has a separate fund. This 14.5 billion is just for salaries? Pfff.... doesn't make sense,,, just doesn't make sense... Iranians open your eyes.

By the way i believe this report is not one hundred precent objective and the prognoses are based on information provided by the 5 year plan 2010-2015 as the numbers of the prognoses of the inflation are exact copies of those provided by the regime. I think some information is true but you can not prognoses your inflation so low while you are privatizing at the same time. This report doesn't make basic economic sense. There is no triangulation no ranges,,,, pfff.... who wrote this?

Sorry hahaha there is a range! For example look at the unemployement prognoses. They argue in this report that the uper range is taken and that there is a possibility of a unemployment rate of between 14 and 8%.... BUT 14% is taken as the prognoses.... In a normal range you would have a range between (in this situation 16% and 12%) and you would say that it would be actually around 13% or 14% depending on the weighted average considering the risk.

pfff...

on a german paper they said we exported 115 billions last year and this year around 150 billion.

but even 150 billion is not that much, but ok for this year.

Iran's electricity exports rise by 23%

Iran's electricity exports have soared by 23 percent in the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21).

The Iranian Energy Ministry announced on Monday that the country's exports had experienced the growth due to savings enabled by the implementation of the government's subsidy reforms plan, IRNA reported.

The Islamic Republic exported 5,656 gigawatt-hours of electricity to its neighboring countries during the time span. The hike pointed to a 23.13-percent increase compared to the same period the previous year.

Iran's electricity network is integrated into the power grids of seven neighboring countries--Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan.

The subsidy reform plan has enabled the Iranian government to gradually reduce energy subsidies over the course of five years, with low-income families being compensated with direct cash handouts.

The implementation of the plan slashed electricity consumption and increased the country's energy exports.

Iran to double power exports to Turkey

An Iranian electricity industry official says Tehran is considering a twofold increase in power exports to neighboring Turkey after a new electricity transfer line between the two countries becomes operational.

Mir-Fattah Fattah Gharabagh, managing director of Iran Grid Management Company (IGMC), noted that Iran is currently exporting about 230 kilovolt per day (kV/d) of electricity to Turkey and the new transfer line will increase that capacity to 400 kV/d.

“[The project for] construction of a new power transfer line to Turkey is currently in its final stages,” he added on Friday.

The official said that construction of a new electricity post and completion of the Khoy power plant will also be carried out concurrent with the construction of the new power line.

Iran currently uses two power transfer lines to export electricity to Turkey and the Turkish private sector has been negotiating with the Iranian side to import more electricity.

The country is currently exchanging electricity with Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Pakistan, Nakhichevan, Turkey and Turkmenistan and plans to add 5,000 megawatts of capacity to its power grid annually.

According to the Iranian Energy Ministry statistics, the country will be exporting up to USD 1 billion in electricity by March 2012.

Iran's total power generation capacity stands at 63,403 MW while total length of the power grid exceeds 780,000 km.

Exchange of electricity with neighboring countries reached 1,341 MW in late December 2010. The top exporter was Armenia with 237 megawatts, and the top importer of Iranian electricity was Iraq with 650 megawatts.

Iran seeks to become a major regional exporter of electricity and has attracted more than USD 1.1 billion in investments to build three new power plants.

Iran non-oil exports render sanctions futile

Video:

http://www.presstv.ir/detail/219812.html

The US-led sanctions and restrictions were supposed to cripple Iran's economy, cut off financing, shipping and insurance for Iranian banks and traders, and ultimately bring Iran to its knees. But the opposite has been the case, that according to the speakers of the first conference in Tehran on the export of knowledge-based goods and services.

Speaking to Press TV on the sideline of the business gathering, Iran's ministers of foreign affairs and industry, mine and commerce said the latest move by the US to impose sanctions on Iran's Central Bank will not work either. To resolve their outstanding issues with Tehran, the ministers said, the US and its allies must change their foreign policy from one of interventionism and confrontation to cooperation and diplomacy.

Iran's non-oil exports topped 32 billion dollars last year, mainly gas condensates, mineral fuels, machinery, chemical products, and fertilizers.

Iran, the OPEC's second-largest oil producer, exported last year crude oil to the tune of 100 billion dollars. About 15.5 million barrels of oil a day, almost a sixth of global consumption, also flows through the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf.

'Iran to export electricity to Lebanon'

Iran's Ambassador to Lebanon says Tehran is willing to help Beirut end its energy problems by supplying the country with electricity and building additional power plants.

“Lebanon requires [an additional] 1,000 MW, which we consider it to be a small amount … given that we export around 25,000 MW and have a surplus production equal to around 6,000 MW. We can resolve this problem easily … as soon as possible with simple modifications,” Ghazanfar Roknabadi told reporters after meeting Lebanese Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour on Saturday.

Iran is currently exchanging electricity with Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkey and Turkmenistan and plans to add 5,000 megawatts of capacity annually to its power grid.

The statistics released by the Iranian Energy Ministry show that the country will be exporting up to USD 1 billion in electricity by March 2012.

Iran's total power generation capacity stands at 63,403 MW, while the total length of the power grid exceeds 780,000 km.

Roknabadi added that it would take less than six months to route electricity from Iran to Lebanon via Syria and about one year to build power stations capable of producing 1,000 MW.

The Islamic Republic's exchange of electricity with the neighboring countries reached 1,341 MW in late December 2010. The top exporter was Armenia with 237 megawatts, and the top importer of the Iranian electricity was Iraq with 650 megawatts.

Iran electricity exports up by 28%

Iran’s electricity exports to neighboring countries have increased by roughly 28 percent over the last 11 months compared to the corresponding period the previous year.

The Iranian Energy Ministry announced on Monday that it has exported 7,775 megawatt-hours of electricity since the beginning of the current Persian Calendar Year (started March 21, 2011).

The figure shows a 27.86 percent increase compared to the similar period last year, which stood at 6,065 megawatt-hours.

Electricity consumption has decreased considerably in Iran since the implementation of the subsidy reform plan.

The plan has paved the way for more electricity exports to neighboring Azerbaijan, Armenia, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Nakhchivan.

The subsidy reform plan, which began in late 2010, has enabled the Iranian government to begin to gradually reduce energy subsidies over the course of five years, with low-income families compensated with direct cash handouts.

Iran seeks to become a major regional exporter of electricity and has attracted more than USD 1.1 billion in investments for the construction of three new power plants.

I think it is a step in the right direction, but I hope they can increase that this year to 75 billion, so we can reduce dependency on oil revenue, and then build a proper and modern economy finally.

The country’s main non-oil exports are gas condensates, petrochemical products and engineering services. Other exports include carpets, handicrafts and agricultural goods such as nuts.
China (http://topics.bloomberg.com/china/), the United Arab Emirates, and Iraq were the main destinations for Iranian goods, according to Mehr. The U.A.E, China and South Korea were the main exporters to Iran.

A summary of our non-oil transactions from last year.

Iran’s non-oil annual trade exceeds $105 billion (http://www.tehrantimes.com/economy-and-business/96527-irans-non-oil-annual-trade-exceeds-105-billion)

TEHRAN - Iran exported around $43.7 billion worth of non-oil goods in the past calendar year, which ended on March 19, and imported some $61.8 billion worth of goods, to hit the unprecedented mark of $105 billion in annual trade, the Customs Administration head announced on Monday.
Abbas Memarnejad said non-oil exports rose by 28 percent compared to the year before, while imports declined by 4 percent, the Fars news agency reported.

On March 16, Trade Promotion Organization director Hamid Safdel said Iran’s main non-oil exports are gas condensates, petrochemical products and engineering services, amounting to $9 billion, $13 billion, and $4 billion respectively.

Other exports, including carpets, handicrafts and agricultural goods such as nuts, were valued at about $17 billion.

First Vice-President Mohammad-Reza Rahimi announced in January that Iran’s overall non-oil trade balance is anticipated to reach zero in the next Iranian calendar year.

China, the UAE, and Iraq were respectively the main destinations for the Iranian goods, while, the UAE, China and South Korea, in order, were the main exporters to Iran during the last calendar year.

some suggestions for this year:

1. Increase technological, engineering, scientific, and industrial exports to 20 billion. We can do this!

2. Increase petrochemial exports to 25 billion, invest more there, start up the plants, same with gas exports. We need more South Pars projects to start up, so we can export up to 20 billion gas exports.

3. Carpets, foodstuff, medicine, handicrafts, plastics, fertilizers, etc. can easily be increased to 30 billion.

4. Sign more contracts with the neighbors, with Asia, with Africa, with Latin America, and if possible with Europe. I mean those we signed with the ones like India, China, Turkey, and Iraq.

5. Promote more pilgrim, cultural, medical tourism. Especially bring in tourists in from China, India, Korea, Japan, Europe, Arab countries, the neighbors etc. Better advertising, build more hotels, more resorts, etc.

These are just tips how to decrease dependency on petro dollars.

Iran to double electricity export to Turkey by late May

An Iranian Energy Ministry official says the country will increase electricity exports to neighboring Turkey by twofold in the next two months.

“Iran is currently exporting an average of 190 megawatts (MW) per hour of electricity to Turkey,” Abdolhamid Farzam, Iran Energy Ministry’s official in charge of foreign exchanges said on Wednesday.

He noted that the construction of a new electricity transfer line with a capacity of 230 kilovolts and a new power post has been finished in the northwest of Iran.

The official stated that Iran will have the capacity to increase power exports to Turkey by late May.

“Thel completion and commissioning of new transfer lines will increase Iran’s electricity export capacity [to Turkey] to more than 400 MW per hour,” he added.

Farzam also stated that Iran hit a new record last year by exporting more than 8.6 billion kilowatt hours of electricity to neighboring countries.

Last year, he said, Iran’s total electricity exports increased by about 30 percent compared to one year before.

On April 2, Iran's deputy energy minister for electricity and energy affairs said the country has diversified electricity exports to neighboring countries and is ready to start exporting nuclear power.

“In addition to electricity produced by thermal, gas-fueled, combined cycle, and hydropower plants, nuclear electricity has been added to the country’s power export basket,” Mohammad Behzad added.

He noted that exporting nuclear power becomes possible as the power generation capacity of Bushehr nuclear power plant increases.

Iran had a total annual electricity generation capacity of 53,000 MW before 2009, which has now exceeded 60,000 MW as a result of the country’s plan to add 5,000 MW of capacity to the grid annually.

The country, which seeks to become a major regional exporter of electricity, has attracted more than USD 1.1 billion in investments to build three new power plants.

Iran has exported 279.1 GW of electricity to neighbor countries during the same period last year.

After the execution of the subsidy plan by Iranian government, local consumption has decreased and provided a great opportunity for exporting power.

my friends aunt had a house in karaj, it was raided, and when she came back home, all her jewelry was there, the tv etc, guess what they took, the food in the fridge

No I never said people have no difficulties but your statement off subject that "no one" can buy meat is a lie and for kharejeha who visit this site it is misleading.

Funny you say condescending but your "opinion" on EVERY subject is condescending. Most of the time I keep my mouth shut but really see fit to jump in on everyyyyyyy post. The self appointed leader of Iran if I remember.

if u cant distinguish between literal meaning and the message behind the sentence thats your problem
i didnt say "everyone" is poor im saying the number of people who cant afford such things is disturbingly high

according to national statistics by the IR itself , nearly 60% of iranians live under the national standard of poverty, that is less than 1.5 million tomans

so portraying that iran is all golo bolbol is infact creating a poor image

you take things literal when it suits u

i never appointed myself the leader of anything

and who gives a darn about what "kharejihs" think, as far i am concerned they are the ones who have linched on our country for centuries, quit caring about our image by shoving our problems under a rug and acting like they are not there
living for others is not how to progress

as long as we keep acting all "fine" , we will never progress and continue "bah bah chah chah" and not get anywhere

my opinions are sometimes condascending yea but on a group of bafoons who have caused the issues i post about in the first place, for the same people that send millions to hezbollah , the same that murder hundreds of students , activists etc
it seems like u dont like that though , or maybe u have a soft spot for them i dont know but it seems like u have agnostic-like feelings towards the system, thats fine, but dont mock those "60%"

jump in then, if u dont speak its ur own problem, if u have different views state them, stop "silencing" yourself, its not like we are holding you at gunpoint, u never say anything but just criticize our views
its like standing beside a pitch and telling your players they are not playing correctly ut then not showing any alternative or other method

Iran lack of OWN good web portal for product's trading oriented on overseas, like China has Alibaba (that seems to be a monopoly).
Having that, Iranian export will increase.
Also, for me were TOO hard to find pistachios supplier with good prices.
It is the GREAT need for Iran. It may be like: trade.ir or bazaar.ir or other, that ALL people in trading world would know, there they can find the supplier form the first hands.
