(Especially our Govt Buses always keep right only, y don know) I ve observed NP lorry drivers having awareness of lane driving and lane changing procedures. Majority of other drivers - state transport buses, taxis, private cars, maxi cabs etc dont know the procedure. They all need training. kannan infratech August 1st, 2011, 03:42 PM Driving Licenses are given without even practical testing, leave alone learning the rules. Ippallam Ettu kooda podarathu Illa. One van driver argued with me recently on NH4. He was keeping the right indicator ON but veering to the left. When I asked him why he kept the RI on while moving to the left, he said that he was signaling to me to overtake his van. He also accused me of not knowing the rules. devan_g August 1st, 2011, 07:19 PM nowadays most of vehicle having 4 indicator flashing at same time while stoped the vehicle, but what is actual pupose expressed for these lights? karthikarthik August 2nd, 2011, 05:46 AM nowadays most of vehicle having 4 indicator flashing at same time while stoped the vehicle, but what is actual pupose expressed for these lights? Its called Hazard Warning Lights When you turn on your hazard warning lights every indicator of the car begins to flash. You turn on your hazard warning lights when you need to warn other road users of a hazard. This hazard could be your own car or an obstacle on the road. Turn on your hazard lights if your car has broken down, if you car is obstructing traffic or to warn other road users of a hazard ahead. Never use them when parking dangerously or illegally or whilst towing. But in our country, people use it when they proceed straight from the signal :). Not sure whether RTO rule is there for this kind of usage. vgraja August 6th, 2011, 03:33 PM Some more routes for kerala.. 1. Gopalapuram(Pollachi) - Palakkad Road... Coimbatore Dt. 2. How is the road from Attur to salem and from Attur to Rasipuram. Rasipuram-Vaippamalai-Ramavaram will be a shorter rute to my village. So can anyone give me details about Ulundurpettai-Attur-Salem road and Ulundurpettai-Attur-Rasipuram road TShyam February 13th, 2012, 02:07 PM NH 68 is under construction. Particularly the Kallakurichi-Attur section is very bad. So I suggest you take the Bangalore road (NH4) till Vaniyambadi and take a right towards Tirupathur. The road goes to Salem through Uthangarai and Harur. The distance is the same (330-340km), the roads are very good and quite scenic. There is very minimal traffic and the drive is quite enjoyable. The road joins NH68 at Ayodhyapattinam. Within 4 kms, you will encounter Salem byepass from which you take the NH7 towards Rasipuram. karthikarthik February 13th, 2012, 02:41 PM NH 68 is under construction. Alternative routes(Via Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri) Excellent road condition, You can save time in this route)-370 KM Tambaram-Sripreumbudur-Vellore-Krishnagiri-Dharmapuri-Salem-Rasipuram (NH4, NH46, NH7) all national higways, Good raod, Toll road. Last option(380 KM-95 KM will be state highway): Tambaram-Perambalur(GST Road) Four laned road. Perambalur-Thuraiyur-Namakkal-state highway(Good road. On an average I maintained 80 Kmph)-95 KM Namakkal-Rasipuram-32 KM(NH7 4 laned) kannan infratech February 13th, 2012, 03:03 PM If you are keen on time saving, driving pleasure & not bothered about the toll, take Chennai Vellore Krishnagiri Salem route. TShyam February 13th, 2012, 03:33 PM Krishnagiri Dharmapuri route is good but I have a few problems with it. 1. Atleast 35 to 40 km longer than NH68/Tirupattur route. Krishnagiri itself is a good 60 km from Vaniyambadi and Salem (Seelanaickanpatti) is a further 130 km. OTOH, it is only 150 km from Vaniyambadi if Tirupattur route is taken. 2. Nowadays the traffic from Magnesite ROB to Seelanaickanpatti bypass is horrible. Whatever time you gain due to good roads would be lost here. It is fully urbanized and looks like Tambaram-Chengalpattu. The other side of the bypass from Ayodhyapattinam to Seelanaickanpatti is quite rural and you can easily average 50-60kmph. 3. The toll - OMG it costs more than 200 bucks from Chennai to Salem; that is more than the cost of sleeper tickets. If you branch out at Vaniyambadi, the toll is only like 100 bucks. For the last 2-3 years, Tirupattur-Salem is kind of our standard. Such a fun to drive route. Actually there is also another route - Chennai-Tindivanam-Gingee-Tiruvannamalai-Harur-Salem. Again the distance is the same, with very little traffic. I am going to try this next time. gvijayan February 13th, 2012, 04:34 PM If your ultimate destination is Ramavaram (Ramapuram rather), you need not go to Rasipuram from Salem. Take, Chennai - Vellore - Krishnagiri - Dharmapuri - Salem (bypass) - Ariyanoor (NH47) Left turn - Attayampatti - Mallasamudram. Then you need to take a left turn towards Ramapuram either at Morepalayam, or even right after the Mahendra Engineering College Campus. And their location? geico2000 February 13th, 2012, 09:39 PM Krishnagiri Dharmapuri route is good but I have a few problems with it. For the last 2-3 years, Tirupattur-Salem is kind of our standard. Such a fun to drive route. We have taken both Vellore-krishnagiri and vellore-Uthangarai rute we just wanted to try this rute. Tirupattur-Salem via Uthankarai and Harur used to be single lane in many places with lot of pathholes (2006). It used to take more than 5 hours in bus from Salem - Vellore at that time. How is this road now, has this improved. If its good, I will try next time. I need to go to Pollachi from Vellore. Guys, After GQ I tried all these routs from Vellore to Pollachi. 1) Vellore - Krishnagiri - salem - Bhavani -chengapalli - Uthukuli Rd, Tirupur, palladam - pollachi, but travelling through Tirupur is nightmare unless its early morning or late night. It takes nearly 60-90 mins to cross Tirupur. 2) Vellore - Krishnagiri - salem - Bhavani -chengapalli - Avinashi, palladam - pollachi. This was good. 3) Vellore - Krishnagiri - salem - Bhavani -Perundurai- Kangayam, palladam - pollachi. I have taken this route once, but could not remember anything. Any idea about the number 3 and any other better directions? 4) Vellore - Krishnagiri - Thoppur - Bhavani -Perundurai- Kangayam, palladam - pollachi but Thoppur - Bhavani via Mettur Dam, was horrible (2006), full of path holes ,Any idea about this road now? KONGU-NADAN February 23rd, 2012, 08:57 AM On the 19th of Feb we took the Vilupuram-Ulunderpet-Attur rute to go from Tambaram to Salem. -->Over all road is good but the stretch from Attur to Salem is alone quiet bad. -->On 19th we went feom Vandaloor to Attur in 3-hours-and-40-minutes. Maximum speed ~130km/h (Between Chengalpet and MelMaruvathur). -->While returning it took 3-hours and-60-minutes. Max speed ~160km/h (between Attur Kallakuruchi). --> Kallakuruchi Byepass is completed. -->Attur Bye-pass is not completed. -->There are no proper instructions in the Attur-Salem Road. In some areas both sides of the road in used by vehicles moving in both directions. -->We were able to go constantly above 100km/h in bettween Ulunderpet and Attur. -->Between Ulundurpet and Attur the road is 2+2 laned (with divider) and in some areas it is 1+1 laned (without divider) but there were no problems in driving in these roads. --> In Attur-Kundlampatti byepass road avg speed was around 50km/h. --> Hope the road is completely laid by the time We go in May. Upto TN border it's 2 way lane, then it's being single lane. please ensure the road condition in rainy season. dhandapanik October 13th, 2012, 07:53 AM Guys, do you have any idea how is the Udumalapet-Marayoor-Munnar road? I have heard that it is very scenic compared to Theni-Bodi-Munnar road. Is is accessible now? Is there any restriction? I heard that Parambikulam road is now off bounds. Is that the same for this road too? How is the road? Anyone traveled lately? Road will not be good like theni-munnar road. But it will go under dense forest. From udt take proper diversions to reach the munnar. They are building an ROB in original route. So diversions are there inside udt. It didn't have much restrictions like topslip road. My friends from udt used to goto munnar in two wheelers. If it is raining then it could be slippery. TShyam October 13th, 2012, 05:27 PM Thanks Vasu and Dhandapani  Vasu October 16th, 2012, 08:26 AM தி. TShyam October 25th, 2012, 05:39 PM Thanks TShyam November 16th, 2012, 04:59 PM Completed the trip to Munnar and Thekkady. The road from UDPT to Munnar is okay. Of the 90 kms, the first 6-7 kms is the common road to Amaravathy and is a typical state highway. Properly laid - no issues. After that the road to Amaravathy takes a right turn and you have to go straight to Munnar - there is a checkpost at the junction itself (there are a total of 5 checkposts where you have to give your details - 2 on TN side and 3 on Kerala side). From here for around 15 kms, the road is not so good with a lot of potholes. But once you enter Kerala, the roads are quite good and motorable. Overall, did the 90 km stretch in 3.5 hours (9:30 AM to 1 PM). krishnaswamy February 12th, 2013, 07:52 AM From FB: Instructions to Drive Safely My trip was from Chennai towards Thiruvannamalai..... That means I start using Chennai - Blr NH road till Arcot; Arcot - Arni State highway- It joins the Vellore - Thiruvannamalai State highways! I guess thats the fastest way to reach the city! I was easily able to maintain an average speed of 110 km/hr; The only bottleneck is one need to go inside the town of Arcot; Otherwise its simply cool; SH is better than NH if not wider!
