Landmark tower for Bahrain
The Bahrain economic development board and Riyada Consultants have inked a memorandum to develop at USD175m landmark tower. The Iceberg Tower is to be part of a leisure complex complete with indoor skiing run and shopping mall. BCB Bartels Consult of Berlin is masterminding the project whose team also includes regional architect Zaha Hadid.

Bahrain has announced the development of another multi-million dollar attraction, representing a first for the Middle East with a US$175 million indoor ski resort.

The concept involves the construction of a 1.5 kilometre ski-track in a multi-storey building with a total area of 150,000 square metres. The tower, to be called the Iceberg Tower, will be built on an island south of the Sheikh Hamad Bridge between Manama and Muharraq.

It is a unique idea to facilitate indoor-skiing on the island and will strengthen the Kingdom's objectives of becoming the Gulf's sports entertainment centre, while building on the Formula One project. Facilities will be provided for skiing, ice climbing, snow-boarding, ski-jumping and sledging.

Being built in two phases with final completion expected in 2009, the project will also include a convention hall, science park, ice-sculpture park, arctic zoo, shopping mall, medical centre and seaside resort.

ya I know this like a year n a half ago. Posted somewhere about it, originally the figure was $700 million but i have no idea why they came up with a new figure, maybe incorrect data was released. Well I'll look for that info again and post it.

i dont know about this project. I mean for one thing bahrain has really over done it with all the landfills and artifical islands. I think this project is a bit to big and am not sure if it will have a market base!!

let them start it first, they've said final studies like a year ago and i never heard about it. We'll have to wait and c. I'll know for sure in january when the Bahrain review is out.

Im sorry but i really doubt this project, it one of the projects which keep postponed to the next budget year until ppl forget about it.

ya same here qatar4ever, didn't hear about it and am not sure. The only thing i know is that instead of it being placed near the muharraq bridge, its somewhere in zallaq. But again, until we hear somethin new, this project is considered a vision.

However we do have skiing way before u guys. hehe!! sand dune skiing, it used to be big, but i guess ppl got bored and got back to sand bashing with their 4x4!

this one didn't get the green light from Muharraq manucipility few years back, so then AL-Futtaim invited them to build skiing place in Emirates mall. You can go there and pay 150 durhams and enjoy

Yes, devil worship is not an acceptable gathering in bahrain, however it's not big as is your " sh. whatever" tells people is. the ministry of interior have investigated the case many times and they found out that we do not have that kind of worship and it's all a big lie. What we have is bunch of guys who copy those people in the way they dress and the haircut.

We are Muslims but we have the right to think the way we want and it is none of your right to limit our thinking and to take people into the back ages. Beh Othmeen back in that time, why? becausse Salfyeen decleared that Sh Saeed bin Mesfer is Kafer, why because the way he thinks. So if you want to follow the rules you're talking about, then in salfeyeen point of view All songs are haram and what Jassim Hejris and some of Islah socity memebrs doing in islamic songs (Anasheed) apply music insturments is totally unacceptable and haram so this will be prohibited by the law. this is just an example of what could happen if we all have to follow group of peoples rules. i really can talk and talk about this but i don't think this is the place where we have to talk about.

So any news about this project? I read a long time ago this project was approved by the Southern Governate, could this dream tower be built in the new Al Futtaim Project (The Wave - Bahrain) :dunno:
