Don't ask me why, there is no reason :)
I post when I found buildings from other websites, or other people suggested.

These projects were designed by architects based on the request of developers, it is up to the owner/developer to proceed with these projects.

If you trust the developer then these projects will most likely to go ahead and vice versa :)

The Olympic Stadium area get redeveloped, what has it got to do with any other project, the Stadium is effectively dead, being in the middle of PP occupied a large block of land, yet the supporting infrastrurue not suitable to host any major Sport event.

IMO, even the main stadium should be demolish as well,

To many Cambodians, Olympic Stadium is like the Sydney Opera House to Australians. For me, the area around the stadium, including the City Mall area, should be redeveloped into a big green public park with big trees and green fields, playgrounds, and public pools so that Phnom Penhonians and visitors alike can come and play and enjoy on given day. Big cities in the world have big public spaces and parks. Phnom Pend needs one too. This area is perfect for that since the Boeung Kak area is becoming another concrete jungle very soon.

The main stadium and other facilities should be updated to a modern standard. If you build it, it'll come. So, hosting any major sport event would not be a problem. In fact, it hosted a world cup qualifying match between Loas and Cambodia last month.

If I had lots of money, I would buy it and make my dream happen - a stadium with a nice public park around it. People who come and visit Phnom Penh will remember the experience they have in Phnom Penh. Look at now. Phnom Penh does not have much to offer to visitors in term of public spaces they can enjoy.

Every tour group to sydney will visit Opera House, I can't say the same to PP tourist. I don't really think any tour group will visit the stadium.

And uou know, to me, as an Australian, I really don't mind Opera House to go, it is a nice looking icon, but doesn't seems to fit for its purpose. Sydney need a new Opera House. But this is off topic.

For me, the area around the stadium, including the City Mall area, should be redeveloped into a big green public park with big trees and green fields, playgrounds, and public pools so that Phnom Penhonians and visitors alike can come and play and enjoy on given day.

I agree that is an alternative, I have seen lots of family gathering, games, with lot of people is having some exercise, sports activiites, or just having fun there in the weekend.

City Mall is clearly a mistake.

Big cities in the world have big public spaces and parks. Phnom Pend needs one too. This area is perfect for that Perfect only if you live close to it. There are plenty of green in PP, the green near Naga, the greens in the Royal University, the green close to Century Market,

Parks and Reserves doesn't need to be big, but need to have a lot cover much part of the cities, so everyone can use some.

The main stadium and other facilities should be updated to a modern standard. If you build it, it'll come. So, hosting any major sport event would not be a problem. In fact, it hosted a world cup qualifying match between Loas and Cambodia last month.

Did you get a full house?
How are you going to fit 5000+ cars, 200+ buses? It can hold sport event, how are you going to move 20,000 people in and out of the area before and after the games? Any sporting veune will have to take these into account.

The area around it, is overdevelop, over congested, a major sporting venue doesn't have to be in the middle of the city, it can be (and probably should be) at the edge of the city.

If I had lots of money, I would buy it and make my dream happen - a stadium with a nice public park around it. People who come and visit Phnom Penh will remember the experience they have in Phnom Penh. If you have money, you will think differently.

Look at now. Phnom Penh does not have much to offer to visitors in term of public spaces they can enjoy. I agree PP has nothing to appeal the average tourist.

Yes, there is tour group that goes to see the stadium. I went there last year when I visited Phnom Penh.

You are right that there are green places around Phnom Penh, but there isn't one near that area. Also, what I want to see is something like the Central in New York or Stanley Park in Vancounver. I bet tourists will visit the area if Phnom Penh has one like that.

Without the stupid developments around it right now, moving 20,000 in the area is not so much difficult. It hosted many other events before with full house and did not have any problem because there were no developments around.

Not sure about Australia, but in North America, most of the big stadiums of 20,000 plus up are in downtown areas. Who wants to drive hours just to see a game? If Phnom Penh wants, it can do the same. All they have to do is to have a good transit system moving people around the area.

It'd be pre-mature of you to assume what I would think I do if I had lots of money.

Your idea of Phnom Penh is too simplistic.

Phnom Penh is a cultural and ancient city. That's proof enough for tourists. All it needs now is just modern facilities to keep tourists.

I like this project but ASIAN brought up a good point. This national sports complex is one of the cultural and iconic symbol of Phnom Penh. It was built during times of the great Khmer architectures of the 1960's during the Golden era and can still be functional if kept up to date.

What we should have is developd the place into a park, with a Museum, etc, some entertainment facility, etc.

Without the stupid developments around it right now, moving 20,000 in the area is not so much difficult. It hosted many other events before with full house and did not have any problem because there were no developments around.

Spot on, but we have all those stupid developments already, our traffic conditions is a chaos.

I agree the stadium on its own is probably still fit for holding major events, is the supporting facilities that is probably impossible to fix.

Not sure about Australia, but in North America, most of the big stadiums of 20,000 plus up are in downtown areas. Who wants to drive hours just to see a game?

Driving to watch the games is strictly not recommended in Sydney, and most likely most part of Australia. We are recommend to use public transport, a train ride of 30 - 60 minutes to watch the games is very acceptable.

If Phnom Penh wants, it can do the same. All they have to do is to have a good transit system moving people around the area.

Yes, maybe thats all it need, PP need this reliable PT system to move people all over PP.

There are dozens of culture and ancient city in the world.

Most tourist city has some well known icon that the whole world know about, even if they never been to the place, do you think you can have a postcard of something that if shown to the world, majority of the people will tell you, hey, this is Phnom Penh.

You are right, it is too late now. But, it could change quickly. All we need are political will (to do it), money (to buy back those places around the stadium), and vision on how the city should be like in the future. I think nobody really cares about public properties anymore in Cambodia. Another example is the National Library. Nowaday, Cambodia is so individualized. The state is poor, but a few people serving it are so rich. "Who cares if the street in front of my house is dirty if my house is clean."

They didn't build an ice skating rink, just a few ice slides and some ice sculptures. I haven't been but a friend has. He said they offer you a parka when you go in because it's really cold and the local people have never experienced such temperatures, its $3 in I think.

I wonder what that will be used for? There aren't too many Olympic grade athletes in Cambodia, surely the money would be better spent on sports facilities, upgrading the stadium for example, it's in a sorry state.

Yes, I been into the the ice exhibition, it is really cold, I posted some picture in the Koh Pich thread. They did offer a parker, but is not really enough, must be minus 20C inside, the hand and foot is not cover and gets very cold.

Not many people go when I visit, another local family that goes in with me is in and out in 5 minute, you can't possibly go last any amount of time wearing shorts and thong.

I don't know if it is still open, it said it open for 6 months form the Water Festival, I know the building is still there, but if cost massive amount of money to keep the room at minus 20C, a few person a day can not cover it. Surely the Chinese ice sculpturer is not going to stay there for so long.

my belief is it is going to be the site that will converted into the ice skating rink, after all, all those AC equipment can be put into good use, but since the local don't have the interest in ice (imo, it is in the wrong area, Koh Pich is too quite), they given up the idea. Anyway, the ice skating rink does not have to be so cold.

Yes I agree and the Olympic Committee should decide on how much office spaces, what purposes they need to fill out these spaces before planning this project, it is not necessary to have a 8 floors building for the committe alone, better spend those money on training athletes and upgrading the sport facilities.

I sort of agree with you but it is the market driven not OCIC alone. Look at other project like Camko city, Grand PP, they only achieved small scale compared to what they are expected. Let hope for another 5-10 years

so it mean that cambodia not ready yet for construction sector, seem most of the projects struggle to alive slowly, or some even died. Due to the crisis and lack of demand. and 555m just a dream of pp to attract the investor attention. better find the right time to be booming again. i'd rather see those project run smoothly than just see them scaling down thier project or being on hold.

Your ex-boss must have Cambodian passport in order to own the villas in PP. Or is he leasing, if he is not Cambodian citizen? Am I not right that foreigners can't not own ground floor of a house/building?

To tell you the truth, the original purchase wasn't strictly legal, but now his son has the ID (cost a lot of money, but penauts to them), and can own property here.

He probably have more property here now that I don't know about.

Your dream will come true but not in that area ... It will be in Croy Changva Project instead
