I noticed there was no thread on Sudan and since I have a few questions regarding trains running there I started a new one.

Information on the web is quite scarce on what trains are running right now, according to the official webpage of Sudan Railways there are one daily over-night train between Khartoum-Atbara. It also mentions trains between Nyala and Ar Rahad running twice a month. It does not mention the service between Wadi Halfa and Khartoum. I also understood that there was a direct service between Khartoum and Nyala.

Does anyone out there have more information?

Nothing more up-to-date than you, I gather. I was there in 2007, and if I recall correctly there was a Khartoum - Port Sudan service as well. Did they cut that too? My guidbook mentioned that Sudan once boasted Africa's largest rail network... so sad :-(

At any rate, the huge run-down marshalling yards outside Port Sudan were an interesting sight to behold!

Oh, and isn't there a line from Juba to Djibouti or something? Granted, it's a different country now!
