View Full Version : Do other designs still make a chance?
johnbeton October 13th, 2004, 02:18 AM I'm wondering if there is still any chance another project will be build on Ground Zero instead of the Freedom Tower.
Personnaly I fear it's all too late and its 99% for sure that the Freedom Tower will stand tall in the Manhattan skyline by 2009.
On the other hand I hope NY will get its towers back and luckily enough there are still people trying to give NY back its twins --> respect
Izeklah October 13th, 2004, 02:29 AM I just made a post on this subject in the Gardner Plan thread. An alternative plan can't get built at this point, because the Freedom Tower's position/support is too strong. The only way an alternative plan can get built is if the FT's position is destabilized.

Don't worry, the Freedom Tower may get built, but it will never stand tall.
Trust me, you'll barely notice it.  :puke:
New Jack City October 13th, 2004, 03:03 AM I think there's still a chance. I'd expect more arguments and ego battles to arise, money troubles, and perhaps lawsuits. At least I hope another plan will be built, if you lose hope, then you have nothing.
7 World Trade October 13th, 2004, 05:32 AM if everyone in the u.s. has an equal say in what should be built on the wtc site, a new set of twins would be soaring into the sky right now...
but unfortunately, the power of rebuilding was only granted to those who are twin-haters. so they just turned a deaf ear to the public interest and decided to built a "monument" in honor of themselves and their folly. any cry for the twins to be rebuilt would only end up being shushed by pataki and his utopian crew as "nothing but post- 9/11 raw emotions, longing for nostalgia and unwilling to face the future".
but there are cracks in the pataki-silverstein-libeskind-childs alliance, with libeskind fighting for bucks from silverstein and more rebuilding influence from childs. but everything seems to be slowly dying out. the only way out of it seems to be if silverstein doesn't get enough money, then the rebuilding process would begin to unravel.
man, if only democracy watchdog groups (if they exist) can just pounce on pataki, libeskind, silverstein, childs, and the rest of their buddies for drowning out the voice of the people in the rebuilding process and abused the process for their own benefit. Seriously, those guys can be qualified as criminals. all we need is some courageous people to speak out against them, expose their deeds to the whole world, and bring them to justice before the freedom tower goes above the ground.
and then we can start over again and give everyone the twin towers that they wanted...
besides, even if the freedom tower gets built, new yorkers are gonna grill pataki and his cronies for ruining the lower manhattan skyline and doing the biddings of bin laden.
SJM October 16th, 2004, 07:28 AM I think the Freedom tower plans are pretty locked in, considering they already made a comemorative coin out of it. :)

The coins were unofficial, and a scam... See the thread on the subject. However, the Freedom Tower is still by all means "pretty locked in." Any chance FT opponents have is VERY small.
johnbeton October 16th, 2004, 12:59 PM I really, really hope NY will get back its twins
After viewing the mega wtc pictures thread I am convinced no other design will ever be able to compare the old towers. They have something magic over them which simply makes them irreplacable. Even the most beautifull designs will miss this magical touch.
TICONLA1 October 17th, 2004, 06:58 AM I'm hoping to see something come of the other 6 million square feet left over after 7 WTC, and freedom tower are completed. no one has heard or seen any concepts of the other 3 towers. tho yes i believe that way to many big name architectural firms are involved in this, and i'm afraid that in the end we'll be left with a clutter of drasticaly different, clustered, crammed in, over colored, shiney, dull, crap!!! all of the chosen firms are of to many different design styles, and i don't see cohesion here, i could be wrong, but i doubt it!!!. i don't see another rockafeller center in this picture!!. tho i find some aspects of the freedom tower interesting, overall i'm dissapointed, and for only one reason, 73 floors, this tower should have 120 floors minimum, however i'm working on my own concept for the other 6 million sq. ft. the tallest in my concept will be 1'185' with the other two 100' shorter respectively. tho i know they would never be built i'm sure most of you will like the concept. tall, simple, massive, clean, and identical (except in elevation, should have drawings by end of nov.)
